Then I would do a floating lotus, which is filling the tub with just enough water to make the cake float and leave it for 12 hours, if the water is gone repeat until no more water is soaked up and pour it out

A floating lotus you say huh

I'll talk to my gf about that one XD

Btw, None of the tubs have shrunk, I think they still have moisture, it's just the surface that's the issue. I might see now why your interventions were going in the way of rehydrating ...

floating Lotus seems crazy until you do it and then all the surface beads come back and round 2 starts.

I'm with Kloakk on this one. Punish it or fork it. Floating lotus to recharge the water reserves, my added 2 cents would be to add a pseudo casing of coir to restart the surface after you punish/ fork and soak.. its essentially a restart button. Dial back the FAE a little bit to make sure your re-soak promotes naturally occurring surface beads then slowly add the FAE back in. It looks a little dry from the photo.

I've had some lions mane in buckets be stalled for about 3 weeks now with dry surfaces. I stuck them in a large modified tub with hydrated perlite and in 2 days they started fruiting. Mushrooms love water, moisture, and humidity.

It may just 'look like a bad surface' but what is the colony doing?

Can't really do that, sub hasn't shrunk a mm, it's stuck to the walls. I mean I could put my hand on the surface and turn it upside down to get the sub out and if I was to fork/punish it it wouldn't matter if I damaged the surface with my hand but imo the sub doesn't need rehydrating it's just the surface that's fucked. tnx  I'm just gonna let it ride, it's pinning, wont be the best flush no, but I'll punish it and hopefully get a better second : D ...

Seems a little strange. I use jars with and without trivet all the time in my 8qt IP. Never had a jar break. Do you have enough water in the pot? You aren't running dry, are you? I don't mind water touching the bottoms of the jars or even more, but too little water could lead to fast heating or overheating if it runs dry.

I run Ball brand quarts and pints, cheap Chinese 1/4 pints, and even Ikea cookie jars that are not meant to be heated at all, and never had a crack. This probably doesn't help much, but it make me think that something isn't right.

Maybe I'm not using enough water then? I'll use more next time and see what happens.

It's just weird because I've done it the same way plenty of times and have had no issues.

Maybe I need to change out the seal or something

I think I have mycelium that no matter what refuses to fruit.  I’ve tried with both grain and pf tek.  It fully colonized fine, but when birthed, after it totally colonized the cake / tub, it just never fruited.

Is this a thing?

Tnx fellas. So no votes for casing huh?

Agree and that's why you want to either punish it or scrape the matted mycelium off and then submerge over night.

I don't think slapping a casing on top of a matted mycelium surface will hydrate the cake much.

I agree yeah, but it would provide better surface conditions ...┐(∡)β β”Œ

Friend from what I read no matter the amount u mist it doesn't retain moistur?
Sounds like your

A opening it to often and removing humidity which in turn pulls moisture from the tub

B need to adjust your fae as it's dropping to often and to much.

A casing might help idk about a full forking though u could punish it THOUGH I personally think you need to work on dialing in the environment you're working with as to prevent humidity loss and moisture :amanita2:

Depends on the genetics though for cubensis in general no. Just requires 95 to 100% clean spawn. The 5% id say slightly bacterial spawn has a chance though isn't optimal and can obviously make the spawn shit the bed n not produce any fruits.

Use completely good spawn n with the right environment and fruiting triggers any cubensis should be able to fruit it's fairly stablized

It's possible but very unlikely. What kind of fruiting chambers are you using? What does your process look like?

Please share some photos.

It's also possible to have a culture that's so intertangled with some form of contamination that it can't fruit. I've had this happen.

There are methods such as the Island and the Cabin
That can help separate the two. If all else fails, starting with a new print or culture would be well worth your time and heartache.

Sorry you are dealing with this man, I once had a LC that I could not clean up for the life of me. Wasted dozens of jars and plates trying to get it to fruit. Eventually I ended up ordering new spores and all was well.:mushroom2:

Shoeboxes and I tried pftek this time.  I have never had any problems with other strains.

I was consistently running HBO’s Ghost, which was the absolute best cube I’ve ever had (and I have run a stupid amt of variety). I stopped for a bit and had not put any into long term storage.

HBO kindly send me a swab, but no dice even starting and I have since tried a syringe from a trusted vendor.  It started no sweat and I cleaned it up with several transfers and went to grain.  Full colonization, zero fruit.

I tried pf tek and again, it colonized, but no fruit (I also ran Ecuador which fruited no sweat.). All I wanted was 1 fruit so that I could clone it.

I currently have the mic on plates and have been transferring.  I want Ghost back so badly that maybe I am jinxing it.

Makes me think there's contamination that hitched a ride with your culture. Have you tried trenching, islands, or cabins to clean up a culture?

It's likely worth your time to give them a shot if not. Can probably get you back in business

is there a difference in pressed coir or coir which comes already a bit fluffy.

im asking cause buying bulk it’s a lot cheaper here to get the fluffy stuff. it’s said to be sterile in the bag. it wouldn’t anymore obviously once i open it. what are your thoughts?

What’s up People? Quick question: any recommendations for a PH meter?

I got this one from a local hardware store (Amazon Link)

It worked pretty good for me when making a casing for Pans. You take a sample of the substrate. add water to make it kind of muddy/ soupy and stick it in there and it tells you on a digital screen

How did you check if it works? Did you actually use it in solutiva with a known pH? Or is it just that you didn’t get contamination while allowing your pans to grow?

I bought one similar to this a few weeks ago and realised that either the pH meter or my vinagre was broken. It said it had a pH of 6.5.

People use pre hydrated coir. I would just try it out. If it doesn't work for mushrooms at least you have a base for making your own potting soil. You'd have to find out if the moisture content is already good or if it needs any extra water or verm. Coir is coir. The blocks are far from clean too btw. I find leaves, bits of plastic and other debris in it all the time.

πŸ€” im assuming you've seen no growth in 10 days?

Either it needs some more time (Ive had this happen) or it was bacterial and the 2nd shake has spread the bact (Ive also had this happen)

Anyone have issues with jars cracking?

I have an insta pot and I always use a trivet, room temperature water, let it depressurize naturally but the past few runs I've had almost half my jars get cracked.

Some were older quart jars but I also bought brand new kerr wide mouths and had half of them crack.

I can't figure out why this is happening

switch to plastics..
