Anyway what were we talking about?

Oh ya. Social media and implications with mental health.

On some level I just don't think the human brain it's supposed to have that level of stimulation. It fucks you up in a really permanent way. For several months after I got rid of Instagram Instagram I would find myself opening my phone without even thinking about it just to look at what... advertisements for testosterone therapy or whatever mail insecurity targeted bullshit. Real faces of death clips of civilians being ran over by tanks in Gaza with their hands tied behind their backs, then a cute puppy, then Epstein file stuff, a clip of Trump saying something insane, a really cute kitten, hair loss product advertisement, then may be a picture from one of my friends camping trips...

Psychic damage..

I think it's going to be decades before we really see how it all plays out and what the actual long-term effects are not only on an individual level but civilization in general,

When I really think about it I wonder if anyone  is actually in control of their own thought processes and actions anymore. Is anyone truly autonomous? Is anyone truly in control of how they are living their lives?

Every year I reject a little bit more and more of it. The way I live my life could almost be considered an act of civil disobedience, and for my final act I will die in a location of my own choosing.  Pretty much anywhere but a hospital

I gave up on all social media to help.  my wife and I  relationship had just become became serious.

At that point I just saw it as an outlet for problems and unnecessary complications/stress. Didn't want to have to deal with drama that could arise that was out of my control..

I realized the in the last couple monthsof using it... my wife  and I were going through a rough patch and social media was making it worse.

I would project my own feelings about her posts and automatically say that they were connected to me in about me.

That's ultimately what caused me to put it down and take a break..

But then after  2 weeks of doing so I immediately recognized positive benefits that it was having on my mental health state and the problems in my relationship that were unnecessary.. they quickly fizzled away.

I no longer had an outlet to post-depressing music videos related to our issues.  publicly in order to try to get her attention or let her know how she was making me feel...

After that I just never picked it back up again. This really is the only site that I use.

I rarely even use the internet honestly. I use it for email.  I'll go on there to look up how-to untructions.  to stream media.  or to Order things I need for the baby and family.  And that's about it.

I don't even have a computer...

If it weren't for this place

I my online footprint would be minimal.

If it becomes pretty obvious after a while that the agenda is uniformity.  Conformity and status quo.  Programmed regulated outrage.  The illusion of option.

As long as everybody keeps their head down looking at their phone, the house wins.  Just watch your netflix and obey.

I was actually vibe coding my social media alternative earlier. More like the dorm college experience, which I did not have since I went straight to non campus apartments since I was already doing that.

The concept is more like Habbo Hotel/ Club Penguin/The Sims, where you create your space, and focus on the links you like.

It navigates like old school Myst, and it's about the vibes vs your face. More like an empty dorm room.

You can go through my vynil collection, look at artwork I made, which photos go to the corkboard wall, they feel like polaroids.

There is a feed, if you click on the laptop on your PC, but it is strictly based on last posts, and toggable, so like close friends, bands you follow, etc.

Am I a fan of Black Metal Promotion? I can knock on their room, and request access. Maybe join in for the listening parties.

Not sure about avatars, it's First Person, but maybe I can knock and say hi?

I’m also not using social media anymore. Another thing that has improved my life is no longer watching television. I do watch movies, mostly in the cinema, but I no longer have television filling my mind with garbage I didn’t consciously choose.

A few weeks ago, my wife and I went for an evening walk. As we passed the houses in our street, we looked at each other and knew exactly what the other was thinking. In the centre of every living room, a television.

Of course, everyone has to decide for themselves how they spend their free time, and I do enough things that don’t serve my mental health. But I’m glad at least we chose to stop watching TV. There’s so much to do that’s less harmful and more rewarding: growing stuff, making stuff, learning stuff. And I believe it’s important to be bored sometimes.

Sure, as my home screen, I use KISS Launcher... No icons, no notifications, no weather widget, nothing — just all black. Just the little search bar at the bottom for apps, dialing numbers, and searching.

The dots are a binary clock... it completely kills any urge to check the time. :lol: I don't wear a watch on my wrist either.

And that's it. Everything else is turned off. I hate notifications. They create this urgent urge to look at my damn phone. Only phone calls ring.

I confess this took a lot more effort than I thought it would. It's still not done either I'm gonna have to do the bottom edge and sides tomorrow. But this is what I'm planning to drop over the top of my pond.
