I've got you all beat.

I lost my older brother to suicide at age 22. He graduated from Dartmouth mathematics.

I lost my older sister to alcohol approx 15 years later. I raised her kids.

I am an only child now.

Always gotta be that guy, lmfao. Well done on raising the kids. Your actions honored both your siblings and the kids. Hard road, but well done.

Wait a minute let me try, my step brother died from suicide when I was a teen then a few years ago lost my friend to an OD then another to a car crash my baby mom cheated and hid another man from me and had his kid while my daughter was there at the house and saw it all my aunt had an aneurysm and the hospital sent her home while she was essentially incapacitated and had to go back then they sent her to a assisted living home which was horrible so we had to get her out and it’s as if she had a lobotomy. One of my dogs died a few weeks ago and I know my other dog is next at 11 years old. And my dad has cancer again.

Jesus fucking christ, everyone on here is so fucking damaged. I mean we already knew that, right, but I've had to choke away some shit reading the last few pages.

Much love and respect to all of you. We are a bandwagon of emotionally crippled misfits. Please someone stand up and tell a positive story without suffering, something about the cat discovering your anal beads collection or whatever.

(Pssshhh Gil, that's your cue lol)

I lost my sister at age six, lost three friends and my brother in law to suicide and experienced some of the gross shit people inflict upon grieving kids. But god damn my own kids and parents are still intact, count my blessings every day. Most of my friends lost parents at a young age and it stunted them, can't find a better word for it. My own parents were very badly fucked up when my sister died, think it took about ten years for my mom to get back to some kind of baseline.

Then again I'm yet to turn 40, so we'll see what kind of dark crap comes after that.

Good morning everyone. :goodmorning:

I'll choose to refrain from making a list of people I've lost, because I don't think it would be therapeutic — and measuring suffering against each other doesn't strike me as elegant, at least not in this context.

If we pay attention — death is a constant. Misfortune isn't really misfortune — it's a constant. And if you lift your head for a moment and look around, it becomes very easy to see that. It's just reality.

I won't downplay grief — but grief, though necessary, is naturally a brief period. Everything beyond that — and by that I mean the endless suffering over loss — carries a very strong egocentric component. We suffer for what we imagine we will no longer have. I'm sorry, but that has to be acknowledged. You suffer for yourself — not for the person who died.

So although I've said this here before — I'll say it again. If you truly want to honor the people whose time ended before yours, drag your suffering ass out of bed in the morning and smile. Live — live your fucking life with appetite and enjoy what you have left. Smile at the people who still put up with you, and smile at those who no longer do. Seize life with every last cell of your body. Only then will you honor the life that those who left once had.

Take a day off. Go get ice cream with your partner, and if you don't have one — buy an ice cream for a stranger. Leave a coffee paid for at the bar for the next person who orders one — give them a small surprise. And smile. Make others smile. Live, goddammit. Live — and that's how you honor them.

People will keep dying, and if it doesn't take you before them — you'll have to swallow that too. That's life. Grieve briefly, and honor with your life — not with your endless suffering over what you won't get to experience.

There are thousands of ways to die, tomorrow or forty years from now — does it matter? Were you given a guarantee? We are survivors, for now. I don't know if by luck or by what the hell else — but here we are.

So live.

Hugs

I see a pattern here.

And makes me wonder: Do non traumatized people, those who seem to have the universe on their side ever become growers of these mushrooms that we all love? Would anyone ever find the need to grow this medicine when they aren´t hurt or broken?

Seems like lots of us here, if not most, have had some kind of traumatizing experience. Wether it´s losing a loved one, substance abuse, violence/abuse, a toxic af relationship, a rough childhood or something along those lines.

Looks like here we can get both things many of us need. The knowledge to learn how to grow and a network of support that listens and cares.

Be proud of yourselves for what you all have created here.

Or is it that in this day and age everyone is holding some sort of trauma? Or is it that we are more open about sharing our trauma? Was it the chick or the egg?

Idk 6 hours in line to get into camping after traveling across the country has left me loopy!!!

I don't think one growin' such things is necessarily a trauma response, but I can certainly see how it could be for some.  I think it also ties into something more primal: the human urge to create and cultivate life.  For some folks, that's children.  For some, it's plants.  For others, it's fungi or animals or any number of other living things.  Or, hell, it might be any combo thereof.  Living things make us want to live, they fulfill a social need and...well, humans are nothing if not extremely socially needy, lol.

Though, perhaps with the trauma, there's another aspect to it.  Or, at least, there is for me.  See, in theory, I like therapy.  I know it's helpful and good and somethin' folks should get from time to time.  But, therapy requires trust.  A level of trust I just can't manage when I know someone has the institutional power to take away my freedom by force.  If they think I'm a danger to myself or others, they can (and my own issues cause me to believe they absolutely will) have me held involuntarily in a psychiatric facility.  I've seen what that kinda shit can do to people, how bad it can fuck 'em up.  So, I'm not capable of being completely honest with 'em.  I can't tell 'em about all the shit that goes on in my head, I have to hold shit back and that makes therapy not work.

So, I find other means of treatment.  Thankfully, writing helps a fair bit with it.  And venting to randos on the intertubes because I know none of you cunts can have me yeeted into a padded cell if I say shit like "sometimes, I wish I hadn't woken up."

6 Hours in line to get into a camping contradicts the whole concept of camping tbh. How busy can a camping be?

Belintaf! I haven’t had the pleasure of making your acquaintance but I’m pumping my spiritual fist reading your response to the grief fest. Eloquent as fuck bruv :yesnod: I never resonated with the “well meemaw, it’s been 2 years since you left us and we-“ type of proclamations. I feel there is a fine balance in the genuine expression of grief vs a shrouded request for validation/assurance.

My mom “left for milk” when I was 15, my dad passed unexpectedly when I was 17, my childhood was full of abuse and shrouded in poverty, my adulthood has been much the same. I believe at a certain point it’s easier to assume that everyone is familiar with these demons than to assume they haunt only me

Life is wild, ups and downs ebbs and flows but we all get each other for the most part I hope, it’s different circumstances sometimes but it’s all the same chemicals in the brain.

Ldk, beef, belintaf, the lot of you, I like your words, keep on keeping on

Crazy world crazy world but the universe is full of surprises! I was surprised to find on my Friday that my employer was committing conversational privacy and wiretapping crimes against my fellow coworkers and customers alike, and yesterday my Monday I was then again surprised to find myself being escorted out of the building by HR with a box of my personal effects. BUT ALAS THE SURPRISES NEVER CEASE. For my ex employer awaits the one true surprise that I recorded all the evidence and made a paper trail of my report to management! And then we can all await the surprise of how much a wiretapping and whistleblower retaliation case settlement is worth these days

Feeling a little manic, feeling a little ROUSED, perhaps, but in all seriousness I’m wishing you all the best in your grief, life can be extra ouchy sometimes but as long as we all got each other to kiss it better sometimes you know the boo boo ain’t so boo boo. Wish me luck as I go through the process of getting a lawyer and all that jazz today, I called up the big baddie lawyer of the headlines for my area yesterday and the intake lady seemed stoked af after I told her my situation, her voice actually got shakey it gave me hope lol. I honestly can’t believe everything happened like it happened it’s soooo textbook whistleblower retaliation its scaring me that I’m missing something, but I think my employer just might actually be prideful/spiteful enough to have completely fucked themselves over just to fire me.

I’ve been seemingly unfavored by the universe so maybe this is their way of apologizing with a $3m settlement, or I’ve just set in motion the domino effect that’s gonna get me slimed out in front of a Safeway for threatening the wrong people.

Either way, keep me in your thoughts and I’ll do the same

I'm definitely a counterpoint to the notion that shroom growers have experienced significant losses and trauma. I have lived life more or less on easy mode. I'm 37, so I don't know if that means the other shoe is gonna drop in my second half, or I just drew a long straw in the life sweepstakes. My main motivation for growing shrooms is that since becoming a father I've realized that I actually have a lot of depressive tendencies. This is a family trait - my great grandma received electric shock therapy in its early days. Her son (my grandpa) medicated his depression with alcohol, but in a classy way. He didn't get sloppy and fucked up until after my grandma died. Anyway, where I was going with this is that I realized I was probably depressed, but was resistant to the idea of traditional medication (I've been in therapy for a while btw). I wanted to see if microdosing shrooms would help, as have so many others.

I tripped on shrooms only one time before I started growing them myself in early 2025. When I took a small (~300-500 mg maybe?) dose of my first PF tek shrooms, I felt amazing. I felt like a veil was lifted and that I could see how my depression was interfering with my connection to other people and the world around me.

I wish I could say I really turned things around after that, but it's a long haul as you all know. I still act like a depressed little shit pretty often, especially when I feel like my work is not valuing me or my kids are being especially difficult. Like "Woe is me, why are things not always easy for me. Waaaaa." Now when I take shrooms (I never really did microdosing - I'm partial to mini doses where I can feel it but I'm not too impaired), it give my brain a reminder of the absurdity and beauty of life on earth, and it helps.

So anyway, there's my confession for this morning. Hail mary, our father, etc. etc.

We shall see, I hope though.

The owner of the business is a sleazball douchebag and was always exceptionally preachy about how our actions could reflect bad on him because he’s such a public figure and on state boards and whatnot. Dude was always creating these ludicrous hypotheticals that could go wrong all while actually and severely breaking the law himself.

I’m not a very vengeful person but my boss was an amalgamation of a LOT of things I find extremely ugly, and I’ll be happy to see him face the consequences of his own actions. If I can get a check in the process, outstanding

Thank you both I will definitely be keeping the org updated. I just leapt back into cult and I can’t help but see this chaos as a sign to focus on what’s important, growing mushrooms

Something that rings through my head often and especially the last few weeks, “it’s better to be the head of a chicken than the ass of a bull”

My bowl is hitting and my focus is waning but it’s a pleasure to the both of ya fellas

Seems color blind.  Rather, it is colorblind.

You think thats what people are doing? You really think of this as a pissing contest of suffering?  "Trauma olympics"?

If thats what you took away from it, i think you misunderstood the point.  The point for me and what i took from
It was that theres a common element that seems to bring us all here.

You think people arent "waking up and smiling?" Do you think everyone is just wallowing in their greif?

That smacks of arrogance.  Smacks of "everybody except for me doesnt understand loss and suffering. Everybody except me knows how to live life "with appetite".  "Everybody but me is egocentric"

RG lost her entire family and still finished nursing school.  Still wakes up each day and gives it her whole ass.  We all
Do.  We all try in our own way to be the best versions of ourselves we can and in a sense, we all try to inspire and gas eachother up in that way.

Not the first time youve given unsolicited advice to people who are just trying to relate to eachother and feel understood.

"Take a day off.  Go get icecream" you say to a man who spent 18 years in prison for getting high.  Come on dude..

Am I incorrect in this assessment?  I realize youre trying to be helpful but you come off as condesceding as fuck.

If you're at the point where you're on an Internet website trying to grow your own drugs to fix your broken brain. It's a pretty safe assumption that you got some damage and baggage.

It's really inspiring seeing so many people share. The world is a better place for all of us having found this space to share together.
