toxic psilocybes

one watches for contamination all the time when growing, because they say toxins can be carried from other fungi to the shroom. i was just wondering what prevents this in the wild?

I wondered about that too. Perhaps it does happen a lot, and thats why there aren't mushrooms growing all over the place. When you think about how many spores there are floating through the air, and how rarely mushrooms are found, it makes sense that a lot of them fail to produce fruit due to overwhelming amounts of molds, etc. Just the lucky ones manage to colonize and fruit. Thats just a theory. I could be wrong!

i could be way off the mark here so i am offering my opinion only.
the reason we don't die from the overwhelming amount of bacteria is because we have white cells to combat viruses and bacteria.
indoors shrooms are grown on EXTREMELY nutritious (and therefore highly vulnerable) substrates that succumb easily to moulds etc..
outdoors shrooms grow in areas that have the right conditions. this includes resistance to common bacteria. amanitas growing in pine needles for example, will survive simply because the pine needles are not nutritious enough to a wide variety of bacteria etc..
someone help me out here, i know what i mean but i am not using the right terminology i don't think
hope that helps somewhat anyway!

Toxic fungi are very rare and nearly all contams found on shroom substrates are harmless to humans. I don't think anyone has ever settled the question of whether or not shrooms adsorb toxins from other fungi either in the wild or in cultivation.

its proven that they do.

Put one drop of an anti-fungal on a single mushroom in
your setup and within hours the entire tray will be dead.
My friend has seen this happen (she was using the anti-
fungal to try and keep contaims from growing in the water
at the bottom of tank. one of the shrooms grew downward
into the liquid and the entire tray was lost within hours.)

So,what does the mycelium's metabolic waste look like? My fastest colonizing cakes have an isolated yellow paste where the burst of growth first occured. The mycelium just grew around it in one jar, and over it in the other. I thought the mycelium was merely shitting. Am I right or do I have to throw out my best jars?

Nothing of what I say is a personal matter. All cultivation questions are on behalf of counterparts who risk growing. I take no responsibility in being the messenger.

The yellow is probably normal waste material if it is liquid looking but yellow is not a good sign if it appears dry and powdery.
