Both my Hillbillies and Melmacs are producing bigger fruits each flush, but they aren't fruiting everywhere. My Melmacs only produced 2 on its second flush, and these are the pics of my Hillbillies. What am I doing wrong?

Later flushes will produce fewer but bigger fruits and is very common, you might not be doing anything wrong. How was the first flushes and are you working with MS genetics?

Sorry, Kloakk. I read this the other day but work likes to get in the way of life. And then I just forget...

Anywho. Here's my first Hillbilly flush:

And what's MS genetics?

Nice grow sis!

Ms just means multispore. Its a term that gets used to mean a number of things.  Basically it means its a grow from spores.  A "mss" a multispore syringe.  It means theres a lot of genetic differntiation in it.

Cloning starts to narrow the genetic pool down but technically early clones are still "multispore" in the sense that there can still be a lot differentiation genetically.  It takes many generations of cloning and swabbing to get stable genetics but even still, its all still technically "multispore" in the strict sense.

Dont worry about it lol.

Oh. I think I'm going to have to go through the rabbit hole of researching cloning now.

My friend had a big LC jar of these Hillbillies so I just took some of his. I'm actually surprised nobody really grows them here because visually, they are the best for me. The best way I can describe it is like that part in Tron where he's riding the bike with the black background, except there's a lot more lines of color and theyre all rainbow and sparkly. Every other variety I've tried just gives mostly object movement.

I digress. The Melmacs were from an LC syringe I bought from a site when I first started this whole thing.

Maybe you guys just suck at cling wrappin :snub:

Hey man, I did cling for months and months but when I tried grafting tape, it was like the heavens opened up.  Night. And. Day.  You should try it man.

Whatdya got, a Costco 5000’ roll of cling?   I was going through a roll a week

I found micro holes in my cling so I was wrapping 3-4 times

I’ve done nothing but cling for years, but tearing in the middle of a wrap drives me nuts, so I’m gonna convert and see how I like the new religion. Thanks for the link, faht!

No worries RG life happens all the time
Tub turned out great

Like Beef said MS means multispore, what I was asking was if you started from spores with the tubs in question. I can agree that a clone isn't stable, but for the most part when I clone I get the traits from the fruit I cloned.

So if I clone a fruit from a first flush cluster and fruit that clone culture I will get more clusters and a better pinset. And that is why I asked, to suggest cloning from a nice cluster or other traits you like.

Of course if you want the spores from the clone culture to be stable there's a lot of work to be done, but using and storing clone cultures has worked very good for me :awesomenod:

20+ years with parafilm for me.

:nodofunderstanding:

If I ever got a roll that was dried up I would return it immediately, and it's sad to hear these stories of people getting shitty parafilm. I have plates over a year old and the parafilm still feels fresh and no tearing around the edges.

I guess there is different brands of parafilm and not all are equal, I get mine from a local lab supplier, which means they know how to store it and I think the rotation is quite good as they supply most of the schools here. Rolls of parafilm sitting at an Amazon storage for 2 years will probably be dried up regardless of brand unless it's wrapped in plastic.

Because the spores would still be very diverse and might not look at all like the parent, and mushroom clones are never a genetically identical clone like a cannabis clone is.

Idk if this is the wrong thread so lmk if it is. But, couldn't u theoretically spawn ur grain to a small jar of bulk substrate and throw that in a fruiting chamber? Instead of fucking around with vermiculite, BRF and MSS?

I might not understand the question correctly, but the pf tek is mostly for those that want to keep it small scale and don't own a pressure canner. Can't really do grains without one, but to answer your question, yes you can :awesomenod:

I got so sick of cling wrap breaking while I was try to stretch it.. parts of the edge would stick from when I cut the roll.. so very annoying.

Grafting tape is the shit.  An it’s cheaper overall because of how much you can stretch it.  This box lasted me about a year of HEAVY plate making
https://a.co/d/0amisEL4

I tried parafilm.. that shit would tear where the lid edge was.  Ruined lots of plates.  I liked it because of paper covered backing but ultimately, shits weak

Doesn't grafting tape degrade, crack up with time?

U can run from spores f1 to f8 and choose selections to create a stable outcome that u could expect from spores or clone though unless that's done then a clone probably wouldn't be considered stable as the spores it produced if not f8 locked would be a complete lottery who knows. It probably would result in fungi looking different than the clone/spores

That's my understanding of it kinda

So wait a minute

Which mushrooms produce spores that are going to guarantee the offspring will look exactly like the parent?

Isnt that like not how nature works?
Isnt that just up to the individual fruiting body,

Which mushrooms are so stable that the offspring are deadlocked into a specific form in perpetuity?

Because that is 100% voodoo and I am interested

Just sanitize any bag by using 70% isopropyl and let the alc evaporate before you put your wedge in

I buy the cheapest zipbags I can get my hands on, they're sterile enough inside, no need to do anything other then put the wedge inside

If you stabilized a variety over several generations you can get them pretty stable. But never 100%, like the APE swab I recieved from a giveaway, germinated fine but threw just as many brown PE fruits as it did APE fruits, had to clone to get a tub of just APE.

From that clone I never got a brown PE so cloning is pretty good way of narrowing down the traits you want.

hello again fellas.

i got a question about sporeswaps.

whats the best way to use them? ive read about the spore swab tek with cutting it and dropping it in the agar.

i tried streaking but had no success with that. those swabs are pretty old around 5 years i’d say. they are packaged in doubles in those packets they came orginally from(i guess).
anyway how would one go about being as sterile as possible in the sab. where do i place the packet ideally and then after opening it
how and where do i cut it to after take it with a pair tweezer and squish it in?
sorry for being dumb but i already had that same issue when i tried cloning for the first time.
like how and where to place it after ripping it and then trying to scrape a bit out.

i dont have anything on the ground of the sab.
i just elivate with broken plastic dishes.
