Does it look bacterial or problematic? Enig on left and 2x GT on right. The enig was delayed a few days due to an accidental reshake.

Judging by the photo, at first glance both GTs don't look bad to me. As for the Enigma, I'm not sure because of the photo quality.

Could you take individual photos of the areas you're worried about? And if possible, with side lighting.

Has colonization stalled or is it still making progress? Are there any grains that look wet and "slimy"?

Welcome Lo-Z!

In my opinion, if you have to intervene every morning because the surface is drying out, you should dial back the FAE a bit β€” until you find your sweet spot.

With the relative humidity being so low, I'd try to give it just the bare minimum it needs.

Hugs

Thanks Belintaf, this is exactly what I did!! I had MP tape around the top of the shoebox between the flipped lid and the top of the box. I had holes cut in that tape on either end. I started thinking I should trap more humidity and I think 2 days after I sealed it without holes in the tape it started pinning.

Im using Babayaga's unmodified tub tek for pans, he uses sticky tack to create a gap between the top of the tub and the lid. The only difference is im using a shoe box and I wrap that gap with MP tape.

Your suggestion is right on the money πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“

So I have a SNAPER culture (Starry Night x Albino Penis Envy - Revert) that supposedly has brown caps. Haven't gotten it to the point that I would know yet, but I'm curious.

If this is the case (brown caps from reversion) and APE lineage is truly albino, it has to have come from a genetic mutation that "corrected" some of the pigment mutations causing albinism right?

The myc is super slow and tomentose, most I've ever dealt with personally, so I believe it's PE lineage, only thing I've had even close to as slow is Tidal Wave.

And it's consistently slow, made many transfers and an LC, all are slow and tomentose, no signs of contam on any I kept obviously.

Enig fell off the shelf and when i picked it up it looked like it got a shake. It has since recovered and seems to continue recovering. Nothing slimy. Just some uncolonized bits.

On the two GTs I don't see anything weird β€” as long as they keep colonizing.

And for Enigma β€” I'm not sure if the dark spots are just grains pressed against the glass creating that contrast, or if they really are dark spots.

Let's see what the other guys have to say.

When looking at grains against the glass it’s not actually just the colour of the grain I care about so much. What I’m actually looking for is a super thin ring of biofilm surrounding the grain. No film means it’s poor prep but no bacteria (yet), it’s probably just wet. If you see the film it’s bacterial. The film can be really tiny and hard to see until you know what to look for.

I guess I always call em window lickers or something derogatory but I don’t think I actually talk about what I am actually looking at or seeing when I comment that it’s bad.

How the FARK is anyone able to bury pieces of a sporeswab into BRF pucks? When i try using tweezers and push into the puck the swab is just stuck to the tweezers thanks to the stickiness of the rice flour. I tried again and again and it just wouldnt come off. Im sure this puck is going to turn into garbage bc of how much time i had it exposed while trying to bury the swab. Ive always struggled with this. Theres only been like 2 lucky times i was able to get the piece of swab to stick inside, every other time im always fighting with the swab and puck to get it off of the tweezers

I just bend and break the swab so it's smaller then shove the whole thing into the puck

U can also bury some of the cotton that has spores on it. U don't actually need the whole swab. U can just jab some of the cotton with spores directly into it xd

I just really like the "haven't fruited it yet" species, mostly because I haven't fruited it yet :muppet:

Hobbit taught me the secret to this. Use two scalpels. One to place and the second to scrape when needed. Works with tweezers and a scalpel too. It is easier with three hands, but a little less practical.

Side note: my brain is not right today. I could not figure out what a spores wab was suppose to be. Stupid brain.

Am I insane or is there not an actual tek for Floating Lotus. Those two may not be mutually exclusive.

Maybe it is just a term that gets tossed around without a formal tek. I decided to bottom water a couple of shrunken shoeboxes for a second flush and forgot to dump the water. Now I am just thinking about leaving it per the Floating Lotus tek. So I went to confirm the process only to find that I can't find any such tek. Is my google-foo leaky or is it just so simple that no one had bothered writing it up?

I mean, in principle that would be just a continuous bottom water tek, and should work

Are you talking about fruiting from a pellicle?
