if its been on there multiple months and washes yeah its nearly impossible to get it all off without a razor blade or something. at least on the bll leakproof storage ones

Appreciate the reply! I ended up grabbing spots from both of those general areas :rockon: figured grabbing 2 wouldn't hurt. And its Acadian Coast (A.C.) supposed to be a landrace from Louisiana, got it from a vendor I found on here.

Hi All,

I'm pretty happy with the current state of my shoeboxes.

I'm also color blind and have not ever done this before, so wanted to ask the community if I look clean here or if there's any sign of contamination.

Also, I have read before to harvest when the veil starts to tear. Based on that I think only one or two of the biggest ones are ready. How does selective harvesting like that relate to the concept of a "first flush"?

Looks very dry. Based on the knots there you could have had a better pinset if it hadn't dried out

Lack of beads but also if you look close the coir fibers are also getting light in colour. This is a dead giveaway that it is very dry.

You can see in a few spots where the sub is darker (should be reddish when moist) then mostly lighter on the surface (first pic), don't mistake water on the sides of the tub for a good climate, that's just a temp difference from the mycelium, thermogenesis I believe, been awhile, but it's common to see too much air for colonization or pinning. I wish people would stop with the whole FAE this, and FAE that, it's confuses people into thinking this is required or a requirement in the beginning of the fruiting phase, which it isn't.

I'll break it down, no worries, for colonization, you shouldn't be doing anything, ambient light, and regular house air, no need putting in closets, or throw a blanket over the Mono to hide it from your wife, none of that.  In five days or so, you should be close to colonized, or very little to fill in, I usually wipe the lid around day 5-7.  That's it, back to leaving it alone, the imperfect lid handles everything. If you use a gasket style tub, remove gasket, or flip lid, but I prefer snap lids to latch, but all of them can work.  Alright, so you finally get you a pin, NICE, at this point, I unsnap the lid, so it rests on the latch, a slight bump in air for a little more evap, nothing crazy at this point.  Let pins fill in, and watch the surface, are the pins slowly growing, or does it look like they are progressing.

During all of this, there should be a sheen or weblike surface of beads, a beautiful thing, if pins or early fruits aren't progressing, flip the lid, but you shouldn't need to in the pinning phase.  NOW, once you get plenty of pins, this is where Air is your friend for stipe and cap development.  Basically, you are slowly sucking the moisture from the sub for surface level humidity in the beginning, then slight bumps in air as you progress, it's a feel thing, you will have to figure out your own environmental conditions, but less air in beginning, and more at the end.  When my fruits are close, I open air them here and there (or offset lid gaps), the sub will be rehydrated anyway when I wring that sucker out for all she's worth.

Hey mush fam!

What is the average time from g2g transfer to full colonization in quart jars.

For cubes and i understand colonization times may be different but in your opinion guys.

If regular cubes, G2G can be a week to 10 days, depending on how many seeds you transferred, PE/TaT, about two weeks.

What is the easiest or most available casing I can use if I have like no time today. Will straight cactus soil work? Or Jiffy mix? I have access to both. But do I need Lime with it? Do they sell it at like home depot or Lowes? Sorry I have been procrastinating and I may be too late to case the ATL 7's but I will try one cased one without casing (one has a pin growing already).

I put one tablespoon in each jar and with one week like 75-80% done , i just wondered maybe somekind of contam that so fast colonization.

You are welcome, G2G jumps off very quickly, probably my favorite method by far, I went through an LC phase, and it works too (still use LC, usually edible woodie blocks), but jelly jar master's to G2G quarts are fast when you have a cycle going.

I've seen several using Jiffy mix straight out the bag. Can't get that so I use, 60/30/10 coir/cactus soil/ verm and 1g/l calsium hydroxide.

Is the Calcium Hydroxide super important? like do I need to PH level the casing. TBH I dont really care too much about the actual fruits and fruiting for consumption, ATL7 fruits are cool an all but its not super important. I just want enough of a cap to get some spore prints. I have the pin going so if it doesnt grow enough to print I will just put it on some agar and keep the plate for a time I have a desire to fruit these.

Take a fully colonized jar of grain, bust it up, and decant some of the grain into multiple other uninoculated jars. Just consider the jar of colonized grain as your agar or LC. You just have to be careful and use as little or as much as you like.

It’s generally pretty quick, and you can make many new jars from the one master.

No I get that I’m wondering do you guys just open them both in the sab, the colonized one opened after you break it up obviously.  And pour it into the other jar? Or are you guys sterilizing a spoon and transferring like that or something?
