You could definitely do a BIG round with your setup, but you already have it, why not use the boiler for something else other than beer (a friend of mine used to make red tail ale with a kit).  I have seen these digiboils before (200 bucks back then give or take), when I was searching for big steam sterilizers when I was running through a ton of woodie blocks.  Might be overkill but...  Cool factor tho'... a TEN!

Right? I got a new AIO brew system years before I started cultivating mushrooms and was only using the Dogiboil for heating sparge water, turned out I get the same mash efficiency when I sparge with cold water right out the tap so stopped using it all together.

I was going to sell it, but they're so cheap new I wouldn't get much for it, started growing mushrooms and it has found a new use, and it works absolutely amazing, with the PP5 buckets to hold substrate or casing I can occasionally open the Dogiboil and stir to both speed up the process and introduce more oxygen

Most of those are just like my plates, simple PID, they are very easy to wire up to all sorts of projects with the SSR.  I have 3x5 plates, dual heating rods, and the PID.  Plenty of walk thru's online as well to wire them up, I just took pictures in case I was confused with anything, but it's pretty straight forward.

I prepared some BRF jars two weeks ago and inoculated them with agar wedges. Then I went on vacation for two weeks. I got back today and noticed that a few jars have started pinning, even though they aren't fully colonized yet. All the jars are colonized to roughly the same extent. Unfortunately, it was way too warm over the last two weeks. My plan was to let them sit for another week after full colonization, roll them in vermiculite, and fruit them using the PF Tek method. Can I still do that? Even with the jars that already have pins? Should I just pick those off beforehand?

My first try with ochras after 1 year with Golden Teachers..

S2B after 10 days - insane colonization! Temp: from 22 to 26Celsius.

To frutification with GT I pass the cakes to my big water tub - I use the water tub tek with very nice results with GTs.

What special cautions I need with this now?

I've seen a bunch of pictures of people leaving the foil hats on their jars during incubation and I have to wonder: am I fucking up? I always immediately remove the hats and leave my jars in a running flow hood for at least a few hours, but I never put them back on post inoculation.

What the heck is this?!?! Some sort of grass seed that was in my coco? Pull it out, right? Following basic tek unmodified 20L with B+ on BR ~5 days since bulk

The lid was opened for a quick one off spray of 0.05~0.1% h2o2. I had to hit two corners with 3% for cobweb (too high humidity and temp) and noticed the surrounding myc began forming primordia 48hrs after, so I thought I might as well trigger the whole cake, with a temp drop tiny bit of h2o2 and lid flipped.
This is a learning experience for me being so early on so please don’t get angry if I broke a tek law.

Yeah. Pull it out. It doesn’t mean more will grow or anything. It’s happened like twice in multiple tubs.

Don’t freak out.

I have quite a few old plates which have tiny almost primordia, little bumps on the surface, and don't look obviously bad to me (but old) but backlit show dark specks. Is this contam? Or something else?

all enmeshed mold maybe? it's like it's in balance so the mold doesn't break out all over and take over? I dunno  I have um more than a couple plates like this

edit crosspost from potd, similar plate. is this myc actually going aerial because the plate is filthy?

My guess would be that mold found the underside of the plate since the top was colonized, this is just a guess though.

I had a shiitake culture, damn near curling in the plate, yup it jumped off no issues, you never know, that doesn't look too bad, a couple suspect areas, but to transfer to another plate, if it's worth keeping, handle it.
