Summer in my area is unusually rainy and cool, last year I would be sad I can't go cycling now at least I can see the mycelium enjoys it :wink:

After hunting woodlovers for 13 years now this is the first year I finally got a couple pots going at home, one allenii and one cyanescens. I started the "spawn" from some stem butts and some woodchips & grasses with myc on them from patches I found back in Dec/Jan, used some fermented and some hydrated woodchips in ziplock bags, and I started the pots in April IIRC.

I have one allenii pot about the size of what you have there^ and the cyan is in a slightly smaller one. The cyan myc seems more aggressive & colonizing quicker than the allenii (I couldn't resist gently poking down a bit into the chips a couple times the last couple months to see what was going on lol), the allenii is expanding well too though.

I'm curious to see if mine fruit this time around.

Would AC water hurt my patch at all? There's an AC near my patch that runs all the time and I can connect its water disposal pipe to my patch. I have seen olive trees live happily that way

Absolutely not. An ac is essentially just a dehumidifier. It's pulling moisture out of the air. Use it if you can 😎

Woodlover's Thread, NOW were talking my language.  Check my avatar, yessir home grown waving at everyone!  Added to list, I look forward to working with this azure print I've had waiting on me. 

That moment you see your favorite mushroom pop after almost 2 years (bed made late 21'), I honestly didn't think it was real. It was close to Christmas, and it was the best gift nature could give.

If you cleanup the spawn on agar or pf tek or some other method of course you can colonize spawn for ps azurescens and ps cyanescens indoors don't matter if the original material was a sipe or spores or lc or a clone of a woodchip too much as I haven't found any ps cyanescens or azurescense that was clean that didn't do its thing when proper conditions where given

Ud cleanup to agar n then use a small piece of agar to transfer to some grains  (this is what I'd do) then put some colonized on agar then put a few of those grains to flash boil pasteurized unrinsed birch woodchips

and make a second batch using the agar to grains to agar to compare the first batch of grains that ur expanding to woodchips by spawning that gar to some grains n some woodchips 

From there u can expand practically almost indefinitely from what I've seen.

(Time to brag) The ps azzy n ps cyanescens has bricked to ground level so I might get some fruits before the last winter freeze  😎 I made full 5 gallon buckets of spawn in about a month in a half from a single ml to some grains then to woodchips skipping agar because my culture was clean 😊

If you want to propagate spawn from an existing bed, I would say, keep it outside. And in a container that has drainage, like a medium or large size planter. In the open air the mycelium is much more resilient than if taken indoors eith low fae, etc.
If/when it's fully colonized you can easily expand to many more containers or use in a new bed.
No guarantees that it will always work though.

:stoned: so I've decided what I'ma do with the extra jars of cyan woodchip spawn I got lol. Gonna expand it a shit ton to trays eventually maby in few months n try my hand at indoor temp controls n humidity controls too + a fan ac n heater if required 😶‍🌫️

Going the AC route is expensive. I built a walk in cooler. Even went R35 insulation on all 4 walls, ceiling, and floor. Bypassed and AC with a temperature controller. Still the electric bill is high running that thing. I don't run it in the summer time anymore. It's too expensive. The thing works amazing though. I've had it down in the low 30s before, just above freezing. And I can fit so many grows in there lol 😎

But I would like to encourage people to just get a fridge and plug it into a temp controlled instead.

I wouldn't personally use that in my garden if it already has slime mold present while still in the bag.
Did you treat your chips in any way before inoculation?

Fermented oak wood I collected. Fermented for 3 weeks. I tried to flush the water a few times to avoid bugs but they still managed to lay eggs in there.

I'll eradicate it then. I was hoping 35c+ summer heat would kill it and leave the mycelium alive

All right. Yes it's always very risky to use anything other than sterile wood chips when growing in bags ime. The restricted fae of this sort of environment makes every little issue come to light. Even with sterile chips you need to get the moisture level just right. Tubs are a little more forgiving when it comes to that btw.

Hmm I'ma have to do some more ziplocks n use them as containers for expansion to test.

Worked all right last 3 times I did it lol including the time I did it with known bacterial azurescense woodchip spawn lol. (The bacterial spawn I recently spawned to a pot n seems to be doing alright aside from sunlight n high heat warning in ak lol..

Also p.s jay. Flushing or rinsing/cleaning woodchips for some woodlovers will kill your chances of getting them to fruit 🙏 dave posted about it awhile back showing comparisons of nitrogen enhanced/washed/unwashed/compost added/added tryptamines I think I can't remember exactly lol

Washed azurescense didn't fruit at all and nitrogen enhanced also didn't flush at all n compost casing yielded the best
