Democratic Socialists are a political party. And social democrats exist in most Western Democracies.

So no, we have never had a Democratic Socialist State, any more than we've had a purely Republican or Democrat state.

In a better functioning democracy, folks have more choices than the right and the center.  The DSA is left of center.

And conflating them with the far left (communists and anarchists) is a straw man.  But I don't blame you for relying on that straw man, because both the Democrats and the Republicans fear monger Democratic Socialists.

Because they both take money from corporations and AIPAC.  Which is how we got started on this to begin with.

Socialism is public control of the means of production.

Although some in DSA advocate for that, we are light years away from that being politically feasible.

What people often say is proof of socialism in Western Europe is just liberal capitalism with a welfare state. And, because the workers don’t have the means of production, those that do (the rich) get to strip away those crumbs on a whim. The French have to constantly riot to protest wage cuts and raises of the retirement age. The Brits are in the verge of having the NHS strip mined by American capital, etc etc.

Why do you think the ruling class is so horny for AI? Needing the working class to make their society run is the only leverage the working class has. Once their data centers can do that, they can let 90% of us die and the remaining 10% be their slaves.

Will voting stop that? We couldn’t do a Green New Deal to save the ecosystem of the planet because it was too costly, but we CAN build data centers every 50 ft because it serves the interests of the ruling class.

These are all the political leanings of major parties in Sweden.  And their current PM is a liberal conservative (the moderate party).

There's no major communist party.  Which I will remind you was your initial assertion.  That if we let the DSA in all of you young Communists are going to take over...  Or something to that effect.



They do have a minor communist party.  But so did the US prior to the New Deal and the Red Scare.

So yes, the social democrats are center left.  You can be rich but let's do what we can to ensure no one is poor.

Though I do know some self described communists who work with them.  Communism isn't the party platform.  It's a big left tent essentially.

What is considered right in Sweden is more centrist to left in the USA, even right leaning Swedish parties still support universal healthcare etc.

It's still center right using the worker/oligarch axis.

Just most folks in the US have been taught to villify anything further left then the center, due to the red scare and cold war.

The problem with this is, aside from those with acute poisoning, the whole “they’re going full blown communist” argument just doesn’t work with anyone anymore.

Every time the government did literally anything that angered conservatives, they denounced it as socialism and/or communism.

Now, these same conservatives are aghast (on behalf of the democratic establishment for some reason) that the scare tactic doesn’t work anymore. That dog don’t hunt.

I know we see polls about socialism gaining popularity, but let’s keep in mind that even those who support socialism over capitalism just typically want some broader form of welfare state and redistribution of wealth. That said, check out this poll I saw earlier today, where almost 40% of Gen Z would prefer EXPLICIT communism to socialism or capitalism.

Poll I’m talking about is towards the bottom.

The U.S., and Western capital in general, has spent 100 years trying to kill communism, waging wars, genocides, rigging elections, assassinating leaders, COINTELPRO, Gladio, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, and on and on. And what did that get them? Bought them a couple generations. Now when Red Dawn happens, a majority of people are gonna join the Chinese lol.
