Nice , I think the reason why my trays have been going crazy spiky mycelium is because they are exposed to moisture in the form of mist which makes them reach out to grab it. The trays I have started in mono tubs do not do this. They have the denser mycelium on top, but not to the point of being overlay.

Why does all my ochra look like this? Is it something environmental or is this some sort of bacterial mutation?

Long strange trip to get back to good mushrooms again
My problem started when I started using cheap agar
the mycelium would no longer grow vigorously and it was hard for me to find contamination , I had to go back to one of my original agar plates that had some promising growth on them

My coir need to be cleaned up and started fresh again. I normally use the same igloo cooler for about three years to mix it up in, and I think the contamination of something funky started growing in it.

So between new agar plates new coir I also started heating up the aluminum trays in the oven at 350ยฐ for half an hour before use just in case there was something funky growing on them.

From that, I got some really nice clean, healthy plates

Propagated the most promising ones and finally got these bizarro trays

From there, I was hoping the mushrooms would succeed and it looks like itโ€™s going to be a good culture to run with

ZOOM IN AT ALL THE PINS

Just got back from Memorial Day weekend and all this exploded in the last three days
I have six trays growing in the Martha and I have nine trays growing individually in totes so Iโ€™ll keep you advised which works best for me

AND12 hours later i get this

Just did an agar to agar transfer of the ochras I grew a couple months ago. Was called "natal super strain" from the vendor

Holy crap 10g fresh ochra tea kicked my ass in the best way possible. The peak was a little much as I was sort of bobble heading and meditating listening to meditative music but the rest was euphoric. Took a ride on the e bike listening tunes and it was awesome. Everything just looked awesome and felt awesome. I thought that would be a low dose but this was my first time taking any mushrooms in fresh tea form. Not sure if that changes anything (usually just do dried powder in capsules) but it was great.

10 grams fresh is less than a gram dry but thatโ€™s no small number for these mushrooms

Seems kinda slow for 6 days on a 60mm plate. Is this typical for ochras, a result of using old spores, or maybe something else going on?

Did 1.6 earlier this morning, absolutely ripped. In the thick of it things were much like a 3g+ cube trip, it's the comeup where the ochras really shine IMO. Clean, fast, and upbeat with less of the dark drippy thing cubes want to do.

are those T1s from the same plate? Could just be the particular germ you got. They can be very fast when vigorous, same as cubes. They might like a different agar mix, and I find they consistently do well when put to grain, so worst case, send them to a bit of popcorn and grab a nice looking kernel.

For the come up I didnโ€™t like. Or rather the โ€œpeakโ€ it was a little too much. But after the peak was absolutely amazing. It was like I was on MDMA but without any of the jittery bad feeling I usually get from MDMA. Just felt super clean.

Yes, they are. The person I got the print from said it was an older one (>1 year) and it might take a bit to germinate. It wound up taking a month to become visible and was the only plate out of four to grow at all, so I took transfers as soon as I could. Not in any rush, but I could try transferring back to a BRF plate to see if it makes a difference (these are MEA)

Blobs. I always get blobs first flush. As they grow bigger they start looking like gnarled wood with almost a metallic sheen.

Iโ€™ve found that Ochras are less consistent with โ€œflushesโ€ and instead they just keep kinda popping up mushrooms lol

I tend to get a lot of rosecomb mutations with Ochras too. Dunno why.
