My guess is it doesn't matter much, but I like to give them seven to ten days after full colonization before I apply a casing.

:whathesaid:

Technically you want the sub fully colonized,
And even then i wait bit.

Mine are sporulating and the bottom of my dreamer tub is a bit of a mess, in fact I'm giving it a clean out now. So just let them drop spores and run them right to the edge of rotting? I want to grab a couple of prints — should I do that now or wait for that too?

Yes just let them go for as long as possible. I print them when I harvest and the prints are thick af so I'd let them go all the way and take the prints at harvest so you don't miss out on any potency:naughty:

The print I sent you is from a late harvest :awesomenod:

What you can do is take a couple of caps and try to print now, I either print in a tote with individual shot glasses over each cap or use a container just big enough to hold the prints to keep humidity up the first 24-48 hours.

Does anyone have tips for growing these while being sensitive to spores? I swear my nose and throat can tell the instant a single cap starts dropping anything, and that's real inconvenient with section zapotecorum. I'd love to let them mature longer than I have been able to.

Update on the 1:10 ez dial. Seems like I've got some dialing in to do, the substrate colonised crazy fast but I didn't tape the side holes at first which caused some issues around there it seems. Looks like it's contaminated and the mycelium has matted out quite a lot. It pinned 3 days ago but now I'm sure they're actually pins:awesomenod: I guess it's contaminated since it pinned so fast after spawn and before full colonisation and it has plenty of side pins too + the mycelium around the air holes looks suspicious. I think I know why it's struggling now though, seems like my last batch of coir has nutrients added and I did the standard bucket tek so I probably just gave a smörgåsbord to the contamination. I ordered a load of exo terra coir instead after realising this... Nevertheless this motherfucker is pinning:naughty: mostly around the sides and bottom though. I'll add a vermiculite casing in a few days when I know if there's any point to it, I'm expecting failure here.

Put an exhaust in your fruiting area so the flow is always in and out. Like a grow room or chemical fume cabinet.

Unless you live in the desert, outdoor spore count can be upwards of 50k spores per meter3. I am curious, do you have reactions when you go outside, and how does your body react?

Maybe I could have left them a little longer, I don’t know? Caps are dark and stripes were getting darker.

Man those look pretty potent as they are, they'll probably knock you right off your socks:awesomenod: As long as they're chocolate brown they're ready to be sent down:naughty: congratulations on you first harvest!

What could be the cause of these funny looking Subtrops? There are some contamination, any clue what it is?

I have two tubs with the same genetics, both have these strange growing shrooms.

Both tubs were sent to bulk in mid February, and were cased with coir early March, and finally a proper casing of Cactus soil/Coir/Verm end of March. Both tubs have been stressed with both high temps and low temps after some woopsies. I think I consider both tubs as lost, but I'm gonna let em go until they are done or taken by contam.

These are from the same print originally, and they are rather big for subtrops? Guess they are not far from starting to drop some spores.

I guess it's due to genetics since you've used the same print unless you also used the same agar. If you did more than 1 t0 from the same print but in different Petri dishes you'll have slightly different genetics at play in each dish but I'm not gonna say this as a definite thing. I doubt it's due to contamination at least.

Also I'm pretty sure those huge ass beauties are dropping spores already:awesomenod: but do not harvest them yet. They're not ready just now but soon:naughty:

They are from the same T0, the funny looking ones are from a T1, the big ones from a T2, and I have two more tubs that just started to pin, they are also from the same T0. Going to be interesting how they turn out.

Yeah, I'm gonna wait a bit more to harvest the big ones, but I'm eager to get some prints of them. Do you think it's to early to start printing?
