Damn busted p.c. :(
    #1501515 -

So 2 weeks ago dude cooked up some jars, when finished, he laid the p.c. lid on the counter and it fell right on the pressure gauge.  The jolt screwed up the gauge.  So okay, n.p. he orders a new gauge for 20 bucks, and pays for 2'nd day shipping.  Three days later he gets an email they are on back order.  So he cancels the order and places one through another company.  Today he got the part (he was happy because he has a bunch of stuff to do with the pc, and he wasn't expecting the gauge until mid-week).  He takes the old gauge off, and realises that some of the aluminum threading on the p.c. lid came out with the gauge.  Then trying to put the new gauge on made it even worse.  So now his all american is shot.  And I don't have the money to help him get a new one either; this sucks!!  Should have used wd-40.

Good thing I'm not bipolar or I'd have really had it today.

Maybe he will just go buy a cheapo one, and wait to replace the AA.

Does anyone know how well solder would hold?  Probably not well, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to try it.  I bet if the piece were welded on that would certainly do the job though.  Nevermind, that is just asking for trouble/ catastrophe; he will just have to wait until it can be replaced :frown:

Just wanted to vent a bit.

So he may attempt some cakes for the first time in ages and try steam sterilisation.

I got the thing nearly 10 years ago and passed it on to dude a while back. I'll tell him to stop by walmart and check 'em out.

At least the pc body can still be used as a pasteurisation pot.

JB Weld should hold up.  By "should" I mean hypothetically, but I wouldn't try it. OK yea I probably would, but don't take that as a guide

Maybe you could get it re-threaded?  I think if you took it to a machinist / metal shop, they would have the tools and expertise to fix it.

Good luck, I hope it works out

Yup, matter of fact ..............A machine shop / tool -tap & die shop can redrill the hole larger & rethread it. Then you can screw a threaded fitting, that has a threaded hole in it, the gauge will screw into.

Or, simply bolt - nut - wassher that hole closed & have a new hole drilled & threaded into the lid.

Presto chango -- good as new.

Don't use any liguid metal BS, of you might create a gauge cannon.

My foaf had a hole drilled & treaded into a big old AA TYPE PC (not an AA) w/o a gauge & installed one. Worked like it was made that way.

What size is it. I have an extra lid for a 941. Worst comes to worst, we can figure something out.

Ever heard of JB Weld epoxy??? Its a 2 part epoxy that is so strong and heat resistant it acts like a weld. True Value has it, Ace Hardware, ect....

Hmm. I sure am glad I posted this, I would have never thought of a machine shop. probably save a bunch that way too.

What a great idea!

It is an All American 1925X. It is almost part of the family, came with me back and forth cross country a few times, moved to numerous new homes...

How much do you think something like the first option you said would cost? Gonna have to make some phone calls tomorrow.

thanks SixTango

Moe,

I would rather not ever have to tell that story!!! Even with the 2 safety features built in, it still causes anxiety every time it is turned on.
