A year and a half ago I bought a culture called P Mexican Galindoi. It turned out to be what we call ATL7. I spawned the grain to straight coir. Mine did produce stones though in the jar and after spawning. I’m still running that culture with great results. What culture did you get?

They will fruit off of straight coir, but you’ll have better results if you let the tub colonize to 100%, then case them to fruit them with something the myc won’t colonize. I use FC jiffy mix and calcium sand at 50/50 ratio, but by weight not volume that I pasteurize. Recently I had a shoebox pin and fruit before I cased them, which is also growing boulders.

My new tamp samples are growing out nicely. looking forward to seeing these. I botched the last spore print of these someone sent me. 😆

Here's my first attempt at fruiting tamps, along with my first attempt at a ziplock fruiting chamber.

This is my worst flush ever, and I have feelings of exuberance and accomplishment.

Hopefully flush 2 is better and hopefully I can get a print from the fruit.

What a beautiful looking mushroom

Fuckers dried out on me while I was gone. Looks like I'm getting closer to a full tamp canopy in a tub though. Love these guys.

Glad to have some tamps running again!
These were supposed to be part of my LAGM project. Last year.
My procrastination knows no bounds. 😆

I love how tamps come up in the little clusters like that last pic!

I left a jar of psilocybe hispanica on wheat for a couple months, and it looks like it's growing sclerotia?! I've never seen anybody mention that species being a stone producer, though apparently its close relative psilocybe semilanceata can. Do those look like stones to anybody else? Pretty decent sized ones, if so.

These photos are over the span of two weeks. Atl#7-Tamps stuff!!! 🥳:stoned:
They seem to like it (when they're starting to pin) to have wettish peets, in just BARELY standing water
(With adequate temperatures and fresh air flow of course). Photo Examp:

Also, I love the variations with the caps and the semi-dry cap appearance! Anyway..

Tamps: rye grain jars from last June. Took clone culture from biggest stone & spawned grain to shoebox w/ coir. Ate 20grams fresh, very nice mellow ride. Love tamps.

Thanks. The rest of the tub is just starting to get going, but that cluster is a happy lil fella. 😆

Hello, new to this, wondering what everyone’s preferred agar recipe is, grain, tek, etc. just looking for stones, not actually fruit. And what is the time window between inoculation and the stones forming? Using atl#7

While other people here have more experience (particularly with growing tamp fruits rather than stones), what's worked well for me is:

- Agar: Nothing special. I typically use MEA or grainwater agar, if you prefer PDA etc. that should be fine.
- I use pint or 24 oz. pickle jars with polyfil lids, ~3/4 full of rye that was simmered with weak coffee (second brewing from reused grounds) for about half the water. 3x as much liquid by volume as grain seems about right. Supposedly the coffee helps to make the stone formation start sooner, but I haven't seen that tested yet. I usually do it because it's easy (I've always got coffee grounds) and there isn't an obvious downside.
- Be extra thorough with drying the grain before loading the jars, any extra condensation in there is going to sit around a long time and can get pretty funky.
- I tend to shake the jars to spread growth when they're about 25-30% colonized, but it isn't strictly necessary.
- It seems like stone growth really gets going a couple weeks after the jar is fully colonized, but if you don't shake them the earlier parts of the jar may start forming stones as the last parts are still closing in. According to my notes they've had visible stones ~4-6 weeks from inoculation, but it probably depends on ambient temperature. Aside from obsessively watching the first few jars I usually just leave them alone and expect them to be set after a couple months. They aren't fast, but it's hands-off, set and forget, etc.

My ATL#7 myc usually looks like this.

Regular ol' agar + nutrients (potato dextrose, light malt extract, heck
even quality honey works) there's so many recipes, pick one or two.
Popcorn, Rye, WBS, Oats, will all work, even rye grass seed will work
but was never needed for stone producers. Tamps, ATL7, Mexicana, they don't
mind too much, I promise! :mushroomgrow: They'll enjoy whatever grain and agar recipe.
Don't use BRF cakes for truffs, since those hardly ever give truffles.

Slight light beige or tanned color mycelium is rather normal.
Mycelium tends to send a sorta big noticeable "lightning bolt" shaped
strand of mycelium and starts to turn tan. That is when its working on sclerotia.

Whatever you choose, grain sclerotia I think takes 3-6 months until
harvesting them. Inoculate jars of grain with a wedge, or LC.

I haven't done it (not for truffles alone)
but I've heard of folks spawning it to
substrate in a shoebox, and once its fully colonized just leave it in there
for 4-6 weeks while misting and letting it have gas/fresh air exchange.
No light needed since fruits are not the goal. Going any longer probably
will lead to trich contams. Go with cube spawn to substrate ratios if you do.
Don't use too much straw in the substrate, it's been reported to cut down the number of truffles.
Also make sure to NOT have a fruiting isolate, oh lawdy those will give you 1-2 small truffles if you're lucky.

Time window between stones forming and inoculating? Often for me it
seemed to barely start working on truffles, about 2-3 weeks or 60-70% done
colonzing in the jar. So pretty earlyish.

IME time is sorta like (your results may vary) at room temp/warmish room temps.
"1-2 weeks germinating on agar"
"2-4 weeks colonizing qt jars"
"1-2 weeks colonizing substrate"
Or "3-6 months colonizing grain" for sclerotia

Hope this helps even just a bit.

I freakin' love this ATL#7 isolate! I still can't beat that record.
