Re: Cube growers, why don't you grow exotics or woodlovers? [Re: RhyzoPhreak]

I have some TTBVI going on agar but I'm a bit scared to step outside of my comfort zone!
Expecting to receive a semp print soon so I'm planning for that to be my first foray into exotics.

I scoop out 2-3 quarts of composted manure and dump it into my coir weight × 4.25 worth of water. I give it a stir and dump it through a strainer. I also add some micronutrients.

I then pasteurize the water until it's between 140-160f for an hour and use it to hydrate the coir. I use a crock pot and an ink bird temperature controller with a probe to pasteurize.

My setup isn't standard, but I can set and forget my pasteurization and be confident that it never reached sterilization temps.

That's a solid technique Puff. I happen to have a similar digital thermostat laying around and im sure at least one if the four thrift stores downtown have a decent crock pot.

That's it guys! Phreak is officially doing his first Pan run once this round of monos is finished! I will report back to the cult with more info and questions as the adventure progresses :salute:

Even though I've moved over to exotics and basically only eat Semps, Ochras and Semilanceta nowadays cubes will always be special to me. I actually prefer cubes over pan Cyan and pan bisporus because they have a Much higher level of euphoria ime which is worth the high body load. Pans are cool af but they ain't my cuppa.

But since I found Ochras and Semps I haven't grown any cubes until I gave beef's Sgt a try because they're cute. Ochras feels like cubes but like an evolved 2.0 version which is much better in every way imo and they're the main reason I don't bother with cubes since ochras grow in the exact same substrate and methods but much faster in every way, more resistant to contamination, are 2-3x as potent, better trip quality and gets heavy yields which makes it feel inefficient to grow cubes now:shrug:

Semps and a few other extremely good exotics grow on straight coir and can be handled almost the same as cubes so for me I doubt I'll be going back to cubes because there's nothing "easier" with them and I prefer my current mistresses but cubes will probably always be special and have the highest euphoria to me but they can't give me the healing Ochras do or the brain melting experience semps give me:naughty:

Can't get my only Pan culture to pin so I'm back on foolproof cubes, otherwise I would.

I want to grow more exotics, but I also have no real clue what "exotics" really are and their differences.

I also just really am trying to get my first fruiting bodies on cubes, because mastering that has been a massive journey in its own since I'm still waiting on success with my first batch. Its taking a lot more time then I anticipated going through the spores I have now and trying to get successful yields, and I'm still saving up for some lab essentials like a laminar flow hood (someday!), a microscope, dehydrator, scale, etc. I want to expand my mycology journey, but also I'm just taking it one fruiting body at a time.

I concur with everything you said. Except maybe that cubes have higher euphoria than semps :crazy2:

One thing that people seem to be missing is that you can mix species. A while ago, I posted how semps and nats make for a very healing playful trip. I have also tried mixing pans and semps and tbh, I think it’s the only way I will take pans in the future. 30% pans 70% semps and you can have visuals from as low as .25g with the warmth and wonder of the semps :trippinbawelz:

Don't get me wrong, Cubes have a higher euphoria but in a chaotic way (for me) where they can make me laugh uncontrollably for several minutes and feel I'm about to burst with joy which also can become too much and flip:lol: semps have the best euphoria (but not the strongest one) out of all mushrooms I've ever tried because they don't "go too far" for me they simply make me extremely happy but not overwhelmingly happy.

I've been thinking about mixing mushrooms before but never tried it but now when you say it perhaps I should... I've got some Pan Cyan TTBVI and a shit load of Semps laying around, perhaps this will be my next recipe for a beautiful disaster:naughty:

As I primarily just grind up my harvests and homogenize them, often creating blends of two or three different varieties, this is pretty much what I figure I'll end up doing with any new species. I just need to understand what the fuck I'm mixing into my cube dust first. OK, FIRST I need to successfully grow something else. Then I need to learn what it's like to eat.

Interesting distinction! For me, semps always give me that “happiest I have ever been, how is this even possible?” Much more so than cubes. But I never felt like it would “flip”. Instead, it just keeps getting better and better :dancer: However, I have not tried a classic cube in a long long time. Maybe when I get back to tripping I will do a buffet :rush:

TTBVI was the one I mixed with semps. Just be careful with the dosing, at least for me, pans can be the most horrific and terrifying at higher doses of all species I have tried. At lower/medium doses all is good :dancingshroom: I highly recommend the ochras/semps mix though.

I highly recommend you try them on their own at first. You may like them so much you don’t want to do cubes or mix cubes again. This is what happened with me. I still grew APE because it was beautiful and fun to grow. I did them for the one-off friday mini trip.  But when it was time for a proper trip, “no way I would settle for anything other than spectacular carnival of the gods” is what I thought.

must have bought my pan cyan spore syringe from someone who skimped on the spores.  mine was shooting blanks. nothing germinated.  or maybe they were too old?  i'll give it a shot another time.

the other obstacle i have is time frame.  i know what is normal growth for cubes and ochra.  but everything i've read on zaps or ingeli has me scratching my head.  are they only slow growing after spawn?  do i need a couple months on agar and grain too?
