Without making any excuses for Maduro.  We can honestly say that we don't know that removing him and putting Trumpy in charge will be a net benefit for Venezuelans.  Our track record with that shit is pretty abysmal when measured against that standard.

Its not about fentanyl overdoses. Venezuela doesnt supply the US with fentanyl. Its not about cocaine, many countries supply way more coke than Venezuela does and the problem with coke is it being cut with fentanyl. Even if they were supplying a bunch of coke to the US, getting rid of that supply would only lead to more fentanyl being cut into cocaine killing more people.

No, this war is about oil and getting rid of a socialist country and a dictator while we are at it.

No doubt Maduro is a bad dictator and maybe they will be better off without him but its also veey possible itll just lead to a power vacuum with another socialist dictator to take his place.

The big question is now what? Let us say 80% of the people there are happy he is gone. What if you change the head of a corporation but the new guy is the same as the last guy? How does that help? Trump does not care for Venezuelans, they are brown after all. He just cares about China not mucking up things for the military and he wants the profits of the oil revenues to flow to the US. He did say that the cost of the operation will be paid by the oil profits. Just the same as the mineral deal with Ukraine. Trying to force on them while they are a victim with the security guarantee that Russia will not attack them as it would then damage the supply of minerals to the US. Like the US will put all their rare earth eggs in one Ukrainian basket. Give me a break.

So what is going to change for the better for the average person on the street? Trump said they will not allow any oil to leave the country. So that means any profits from the sanctioned oil sales that did reach the bottom will not be there any more. How long will the good will last as the same people stealing the country's wealth will still be running the country? I am expecting that The US has learned its lesson in Iraq when they tossed out the rulers and the same people started an insurgency as they had no other means of making a living. New elections? Trump already said the winners in the last election do not have enough support to run the country. What he really meant was that they were not in power and the people that are will not take kindly to being ousted. So a puppet government that retains its perks, the US gets its oil (in the unlikely event US oil companies sink billions into the country with no guarantees) along with China given the boot. What gets better for the average person there? Not like Trump cares about spreading democracy.

trump is *vastly* unpopular at home and increasingly meets even the most conservative definition of fascist authoritarian dictator.  you want to see *actual* cheering in the streets?  send the helicopters to washington DC and start putting handcuffs on everyone in this administration, along with those in the military that took part in this bullshit.
