anyone have solid recommendations for boro/corex petri dishes?  I've run through most of my existing polystyrene ones and thought maybe glass and no-pour might be easier and cut down on environmental waste.

Use something so you don't burn your fingers put your media bottle into a controlled water bath and quickly bring it down to the proper pouring temperature. And stop guessing and burning your fingers LOL

That what I do.

Tell me about your controlled water bath

Do people use inoculation loops to transfer FROM AGAR

No most people use a sterilized scalpel or X-acto knife to cut out a piece of myc and transfer that.

Here is mine.
PC media bottle as per usual.
Set it to 50c place a jar in and wait for the temperature gauge to drop back to 50c.
Perfect pours.

Or use these:

covered in foil in the IP. (EDIT: forgot to say set it to Keep Warm Low after the PC cycle and wait.)

or no pour primo plates. Sometimes I pour these like regular plates, too.

Depends on my mood. So many ways to pluck a donkey.

Used lab equipment on ebay. I think it was like $75.00 or so. Will hold right at 120 all day. Drop hot media bottles in and they cool slowly but never solidify. I can pour hours or days later, whatever I want.

I made one of these once... before I got a sous vide.

How do you use the sous vide?

This spore syringe is close to two years old. Safe to assume it’s dead, just contams now?

Not if you have good glass. I used to dip them into tap water straight from the PC to cool them quick and never had an issue. My media bottles are pyrex. I wouldn’t try that with knock off brand glass.

I believe that is what Pyrex is, yes.

I'd highly recommend shopping for glass by chemistry name instead of marketing name.  you'd probably be safe in the lab space buying stuff listed as pyrex, but corning sold the pyrex name in the cookware space and whoever owns it puts out soda-lime shit labeled pyrex.  best not to take any chances, esp if your use-case involves thermal shock.

After you pour your plates do you wait a period of time to see if contamination appears? How long should I wait if I am
1. Agar Noob
2. Paranoid
3. Lately unlucky
4. Intense fear of failure
5. Easily suicidal
:ohbrother:

Oh yeah, and how long can they be stored?
