I have a good size flush with natalensis (ochra) thats ready for harvest but my dehydrator is 2 days away, Is it better to harvest and put it in the fridge until i got the dehydrator, or should i do oven dehydration on 50-60c with a fan blowing into it, want to loose as little potency as possible.

Thanks

Back when I tried oven drying, the potency suffered.  I would put them in a paper bag in the fridge.

Anyone else notice discoloration in popcorn after pressure cooking? I notice it as the mycelium eats the corn. But I’ve never noticed it before they’ve been inoculated.

These just came out of a pc cycle, an extra long one just to be sure (2hrs) everything worked properly. So I’m pretty confident I can rule out bacteria, which is what I thought before. Has anyone else noticed this? I think this brand is doing it more than others. Starting to hate corn might switch to something else.

I’m thinking the hot heat converts the starches into ???(someone smarter than me help) and then it oxidizes into this brown color?

I can get some paper bags, is it ok if the mushrooms are touching in the bag or should they be completely seperated?

Starches break down into sugars.

Brown spots could be burnt sugar?

Put some drops from a MSS onto these plates on 7/20. They are BRF/Agar plates that's why they have so much sediment in them. Also sorry for the condensation on the lids.

Do you think they are ready to take transfers from or should I wait a little longer? If so where would you guys take from? #1 has some orange junk and seems to have bacterial growth as well? #2 is looking ok to me i guess

#2 at 4oclock looks the best too me. But I'm a noob so all advice is appreciated

May be a bit pedantic, but I’d consider 2 hours to be the standard for PC of quart jars rather than a long cycle.

I think a lot of folks don't like corn, because it’s notoriously difficult to hydrate properly and achieve sterilization.

I’ve read teks with soak times of a day or two, plus sorting and culling of discolored grains.  Recently just made a few popcorn jars and plan to shelve them for quite a while to see if any contam shows up.

Also, yes, sugars can caramelize or burn to a brown color.  I’ve seen that in agar for sure.

After you take a print, can you dehydrate the cap and eat it later?

Never once have I witnessed the elusive "caramelization" of agar...

Quote:
Caramelization, the process where sugar breaks down and develops a characteristic flavor and color, typically occurs at temperatures above 320°F (160°C).

General Caramelization Range: Most sugars will caramelize within the range of 320°F (160°C) to 360°F (182°C).

Dissolved solids will produce tinting but never caramelization.

Yeah I’ve heard everyone say popcorn sucks but I’ve never had any issues besides this. And when the grain burst with popcorn it’s really not an issue. I just boil till starch isn’t white dry for 18hours and pc. I guess if these stall out of no where I’ll say they weren’t sterilized properly but I’m fairly certain I got em good lol.

Gonna try wbs next. I told myself I liked popcorn because of convience then I found out I can get pretty much only millet bird seed for 40lbs for $20. I feed birds anyway might as well get the cheap shit since it’s multipurpose lmao.
