I've done 4 or more hours (usually overnight or at work), but you can check the temp with a thermometer, and once it gets to temp you can set a timer for 2 hours.

If you put the casing in several bags and keep them flat then it won't take long to get to temp.

Feel like a bit of a simpleton asking this but here goes..

Is a grain-to-grain transfer basically the same as doing a break and shake in a partially colonised jar?

Obviously for g2g the source of colonised grain is external, whereas for break and shake it's already in the jar, but is the process/colonization time essentially the same?

Yeah, that's a reasonable enough analogy. The difference of course is the risk of introducing contaminants while the jars are open to perform the transfers. Jars inoculated with a little colonized grain and shaken up will finish colonizing a lot faster than jars inoculated with agar wedges in my experience.

It's really down to the inoculation points, like if you chopped up a bunch of small pieces of a whole clean agar plate and tossed that into a jar I bet it would colonize as fast as when you go G2G.

Thanks for the heads up about contam Phaethon any g2g adventures I embark on will definitely take place in a SAB

That's the second one I've seen on here.

Freaky.

Call it
hex7x+
(if it's constantly reproducible from clone or spores)

Take spores too. Might be the way, or might be clone.

Thank you ! I finally get Calcium Hidroxide! When preparing the casing  any way to measure the correct quantity of hidrated lime?

A digital pH soil reader is the way.

I don't personally like vermiculite, and use stuff like sand and other minerals for texture.

But the recipe is a good place to start if you don't want to invest in a pH reader (as the cheap non-digital ones aren't good ime).

One of my monotubs that is starting to pin dries up really quick and I have to mist it a few times a day. In 4 days I have to be out of town for a few days so I won't be able to attend to it. This one seems like a slow grower. Is there anything I can do to make this a successful grow? I'm thinking about maybe adding a late casing?  Or should I not worry? I'm sure there is more than enough water in the substrate to create mushrooms but I'm worried about surface conditions. I'm worried about it getting too dry and aborting. Someone told me to put it in the fridge but the monotub is way too big to fit in the fridge.

Edit: i just went ahead and added a late casing. If i remember correctly i have done that before and it worked out ok. I guess it kept the top of the sub moist. But i dont remember if I had to mist it or what. We'll see how this tub turns out

What is the best root growth stimulation goo?
I don’t want the powder. It doesn’t work as good and I’m trying to transfer a rose cutting.

My dehydrator just broke and I can't get a new one until Sunday... The fan is still going on it but I lost the heat. The problem is that I've got some pan cyans which have been in the fridge for a few days and I want to dehydrate them asap to keep them from going bad.

will they really need any heat considering that they're tiny pan cyans? My other option is waiting until Sunday but they're my only shrooms at the moment so I don't want to fuck em up.

put them on newspaper in front of a fan.  I dried like 2 pounds of golden halos this way and they're individually larger fruits than pans.

if you have desiccant packs you can get away with just fan until they seem cracker dry (they won‘t be unless you live in the desert) and then store them in a tight jar with quite some bonedry desiccant packs.
this only works for a small amount of mushrooms/jar and its not ideal by any means!

Do you have a small box fan/heater?

Just fanning on newspaper is asking for trouble, I've dried tonnage with fans and cardboard and I'll tell you one thing, you'd better move that shit fast and tell whomever takes it from you of the risks involved with the type of drying.

Potency loss is a major factor with ineffective drying.
