just unscrew them a quarter turn and cover the upper third in foil before pc.
when they have cooled down i close them tight (with foil still on) and store them until use.
inoculate in sab (i wipe them with ISO before)
and leave the lid a quarter unscrewed while colonization.
dont forget to shut tight before shaking.
enjoy

ps forget the inner disc. use just the lid with the thread

This is great news, glad to know someone else are using these jars with success. Thanks for the insight.

I was wondering, are you experiencing any rust on the lids?

I remember asking this question a few months back but I totally forgot what I was told smh.
I am interested in growing cubes in mushroom bags. I have an excess of fully colonized agar plates and not enough jars.
Which size filter should the grain spawn be in when colonizing? And what size filter should it be when it's all mixed up and fruiting? And how big should the mushroom bags be? I see a bunch of difference sizes and don't know what to get.
If I remember correctly, is .2um filters best for colonizing grain spawn, and .5um for fruiting?

Yeah, 0.2 micron is typical for spawn, though I think 0.5 micron would probably be fine. For bulk substrate, if you want to fruit in the bag without cutting off the top or making additional holes, 5 micron (not 0.5) would be easier. But you can use pretty much any filter size you want for the fruiting part if you make holes.

How my Kings Incubation looks like? I do the best i can for clean work with mask clean culture etc hopefully it's not too dry? I do the 63%  Hydration chatgpd sayd for 63% 183g Water for 100g Hardwood Pellets.

I read Kings love co2 that's make it easy for later fruiting I only have the Plastic Box no tent

Thx

Seems fine - in bags I hope, because if that's directly in a large tub, your surface is going to be very dry.

Using ChatGPT for math is sure trusting... It gave you an actual ratio closer to 65%. Use algebra instead.

    mwater = h * (mdry + mwater)

where h is the hydration ratio (e.g. 0.63). Solve for mwater and plug in your dry mass.

    mwater * (1 - h) = h * mdry

    mwater = (h / (1 - h)) * mdry

I tend to go on the drier side (more like 60%), and I assume about 6% moisture content already in the wood pellets. Any thing in the range of 60% to 65% should be fine.

I have a oyster culture which was extremely productive. I think it experienced senescence over the course of several months sitting on the shelf in lc. The vendor said they experienced the same. I saved a spore print from when it produced well.

How much variability is usually seen in germinated spores, compared to its parent?

What I'm trying to figure out is if I will need to do 10 strain isolations from MS plates  to find a strain similar to the original, or will I have a good chance of getting a strain similar to the original with a little luck

I don't know whether it is true, but I heard a vendor once telling me that sometimes you have to switch the substrate to revive the strain. So switch your grain and substrate(?) If it works, let us know. Maybe saves your preferred cloned one.

That's for later air exchange so i can remove it ire close it just a test :smile:

I open the lid and watch for the surface condition and sadly it's looks dry :frown: I mist it and close it again.

Amy idea too deal with this issue? Next time what i have to do to make it better working? More water added ore what?

Is this misting ok for getting the surface on the right spot?

That coir is ridiculously dry, you can't just do a mist and think it will be okay.
It requires a heavy mist to bring the moisture back up.

Newbie here. Before finding this site I tried a spore syringe straight to grain bag. Total fail. I’m now working on a spore syringe to agar, azurescens and natalensis. I’m learning as I go. Below are two pictures. The one with lots of spots are natals (when I put way too much into the plate nine days ago, instead of a single drop). The other is azurescens and looks better, though only five days old.

I’m trying to decide whether to toss the natals. These aren’t white - they’re more grey. Can I get a gut check on that?  Apologies for the poor quality pictures.

This is my second flush, I know they are “leggy” and that’s my fault for not getting them enough air. I’m SUPER new to growing, I need to know if these are okay to harvest or if this is mold. I’m growing GT to microdose in an attempt to help with my complex PTSD. After I harvested the first flush I got super busy and wasn’t able to do anything with the mushrooms in the mono tub so they sat in a dark cabinet. Yesterday I had time on my hands so I wanted to see if I needed to trash them or not. I know 🫣 this is what they look like and again I need advice if they are safe to consume or if that’s mold the white puffy stuff at the bottom of some of the mushrooms and on top of the substrate. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

We use that recipe for substrate in bags. Very little headspace, and only a small filter patch for gas exchange. You’re using it in an entirely different manner, so of course it’s not working out for you. You can’t pick and choose parts of a tek to follow. That ratio works for those mushrooms when grown in a bag. Different fruiting conditions may require a different starting point.

“You can’t pick and choose parts of a TEK to follow” is the best advice on this site and needs to be repeated daily.
