Would you say this is ready for grains? Gonna take a t3 regardless but I have some grain jars ready.

I started with two PEU germ plates and these are transfers from those. The left is a T2 from culture #1 and the right is a T1 from culture #2. As an agar noob, I find it fascinating as hell that there is this much genetic variation to be found. Same agar, same storage...ive got other transfers of the same cultures that are performing exactly like this, so theres a pretty obvious favorite child here. Just figured I'd put this up for other noobs to see how much of a difference the genetics can make.

BAPE culture that a shroomerite hooked me up with. The myc has looked like this from the start - it seems healthy(to my noob eyes), but looks otherworldly. No sign of contamination on any of my plates. This is 3 T2 transfers. Does BAPE just look like this? Idek what to compare it to...marshmallow is closest, but not even accurate. Like smooth clouds almost. It's trippy af!

Yeah I would. Do a couple transfers first if you are planning on using the whole plate to inoculate. That way you have more clean growth going forward if you want to grow that variety again

Well Im back at it again. Put a plate pin to agar and some to SSLC. Hoping the plate gives me an additional plin that I can run.

This will be the official start of the kodama F4. Plate pins have been very good for me so far in this pursuit, so I have high hopes for it.

What is SSLC, assuming liquid culture but what is the SS part?

Also is there a write up on Kodama? I've read its your signature type but I don't know anything about it.

It's the mushrooms in my sig. A handful of syringes were sent out labeled B+ in the summer of '22 that grew out that instead. Not sure what it is, but I know APE is in there somewhere because in its early generations it can give you straight APE fruits.

SSLC is semi-solid LC. You add .2% agar to your water and it gives you jelly. IMO way better than straight LC.

Ahh .2% eh? Think the lowest I went when I was messing with it was.5% and didn't really care for it. I'll have to give it another whirl. Ever try it with gellan gum? 🤔

No sir, just agar. .2% is great but I bet you could even get away with .1% to thicken it up.

People say it sticks more evenly to the grains in your jar, but I find it just keeps mycelium in suspension. You don't have to shake it up prior to use, and you don't have to worry about pouring off a bunch of water into your jars. It's just ready to go and you always get a good load of genetic material when you inoculate.

Anyway give it another whirl with a lower percent and I'll bet you have a more favorable opinion!

I have it makes clear sslc everything will stay suspended at .3%-.4%.

I did somehow manage one jar successfully once, a tampanensis. It is neat how the mycelium just sits there suspended. I never ran it because I honestly don't care from tampanensis much 🤣 probably been sitting on my shelf for half a year now or more 😂 I'll have to run some with something I actually care about. Really wanna see how fast it is on grain first hand!

This last summer I made some agar plates (2% agar, 2% malt extract, bottled spring water).

They turned out like this

That's two months old, but after just a few days they started showing like clumps of malt.

Temperature hovered around 90-95F during the day, if that's relevant. I don't think because the water agar plates farednoo.

The plates I made with BRF in spring didn't dry up as quick by a long margin but I wanted agar to be more transparent.

Should I dump malt extract? Thanks in advance

You were growing more than mycelium although I don't see much growth from that.

It doesn't look like it is sealed and the fact it has shrunk 1/4" I'm guessing it wasn't. What kind of tape is on that?

I feel like 2% agar is too firm and will dry out easier. This is somewhat brand dependent.

That isn't the problem here tho.

It's clingwrap. But it happened the same with my no pour containers. I'll try 1% malt extract and see what happens

It doesn't look tightly wrapped and it looks like numerous cultures growing on there. Once it's cooled past 100° agar is set and sediment will not migrate.

Here's an example of the no pour one, I recovered from the dustbin

Bottom view

Those yellowish dust specs (I'm assuming that's rhebmalt) were visible on the surface days, maybe a couple of weeks after I made them.

The no pour container is sealed (well lid is very  tight) save for a slit covered with micro tape so the lid doesn't warp when PC'ing.

Thank you. So I did my first transfer ever and this is how they look:

Golden Teacher btw.

And I did 1 transfer to a jar with grain:

It seems to go rhizomorphic anyway.

This is Natalensis without a transfer - looking crazy strong:

Any tips or suggestions?
Shal I transfer further? It does not seem necessary when I take a look at the grain jar.
But I really enjoy working with the plates in my "Lab" :-B
