Re: Official Copelandia/Panaeolus Thread [Re: sleepydave]
    #28942712 -

Hi,
I am just doing my first grow of Panaeolus with TTBVI.
I got a martha tend, a humidifyer, a fan with cheap filter, a timer and a switch that measures temperature and humidity.
I am wondering what would be the best settings to go for.
How high should the humidity be and how often and how long would make sense to start the fan?
Obviously I would like to avoid paddles on the bottom if possible (tent stands in/on a tray).
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Unfortunately I am working long hours during the day so I can't really check on it to adjust.
Thanks for helping

TTBVI from EniQma.

Growing on worm castings and coir. I prepared the substrate just like I would pure coir. Just rehydrated with boiling water, no pasteurizing. Cased with Cactus soil.
FC is a tray in a tub. Looks like I could use some more fae, I'll tweek that on the next flush.

Bought dehydrated worm castings, used 20% castings by dry weight, added boiling water calculated for the amount of coir, then mixed thoroughly and added a bit more water to achieve field capacity.

I used Peat/verm/lime.

I found @RoscoReturns Smal Volume Pasteurization to be quite simple for me. I can fit enough for several shoeboxes in the Dehydrator at 1 time. Used this for my Manure as well.

Unfortunately, there are no magic settings. Humidity should be as high as you can get it without
flooding your tent. You should be getting a lot of FAE. Spend a Saturday dialing it in.
Use some empty trays as a gauge.

My advice is to avoid thinking of the martha as "automated" in any way. Just a means to provide
a nice environment for the pans. You can expect to fiddle with shit a lot. I hand water trays
in my tent all the time. I open it up and blow out the air several times a day - even though
fresh air is always going in.

You will have to get the feel for it and you might have a lot of failures up front. Par for
the course I think.

I've always pasteurized my pan substrates before. This time I was going to try in a bag with a thermometer in it. After hydrating I realizing I was going to have problems keeping water out of the bag around where the thermometer went in. It read 140 so I figured it would have killed what it needed to at that temp.
I left one bag out as a control and it was still clean after 2 weeks.
I'm going to try this method with other pans too.

thanks a lot for helping. How "wet" can the walls and the bottom of the tent get before running into problems with increased contam or do you wipe it during the day?

Ultimately, how wet will be determined by the surface of your trays in fruiting. You don't want pooling in the trays, but you want the
surface to look wet...where you can see that the casing is holding water. I don't worry about anything else (wiping stuff down, etc)

If you have proper evaporation there won't be a lot of excess water.

I ran my tent as follows.

I ran the exhaust fan on a cycle timer  2 min on 18 min off. This did a complete air exchange 3x per hour. You may need to vary this based on your exhaust fan CFM and tent size.

Used Elitetech Rh controller on my fogger. Set to 95% Rh and allowing 10% drop. So fogger turns on at 85%Rh and off at 95%. You probably will need to disable the high humidity alarm as well as you may hit 100% at times.

Definitely have a catch tray underneath.

Did someone give you these timings or did you derive them on your own?

Timings come from Gourmet and dialing in to my room conditions.

The idea is to do a complete air exchange 3 times per hour. You figure how long that takes based on your tent volume and CFM of fan. You want the exhaust fan to run just long enough to completely exchange all the air the air.

For instance my Temt is 40" x 20" x 64" which is about 30 cubic feet. my fan claims 106CFM but I know it doesn't get that with ducting. I could probably get away with 1 minute But 2 has been fine.

Many people use timers for their fogger as well due to older Inkbird Rh controllers being unreliable at the high humidity. However I have had ZERO issues with the Elitetech brand Rh controller. I even accidentally submerged the sensor one time and all I had to do was unscrew the cover and use a paper towel to dry it off and it was back to working.

I wouldn't try to run cubes in the tent but my Semps and Pans loved the setup.

Ok cool, I think I missed the part where you said you had an RH controller.
I am completely clueless how people run cycle timers on RH. It just makes
no sense to me. But you're not

I like the exhaust fan on a cycle timer. Even with the 24/7 fan going in
my bucket fogger it's still not enough. I am opening my tent up manually 5-6/day
and blowing it out. I will not get a single pin unless I do this.

Your fan running 24/7 is the REASON your fogger can't keep up. it's pulling all the humidity rightt out. I use an old $40 reptile fogger and it only went through about a gallon a day.

You only need to bring in fresh air 3-4 times per hour to remove any built up CO2. 24/7 is overkill.

My fogger rarely turns on until the exhaust kicks in and usually within 2 min after fans shut off the Rh is back to normal and fogger shuts off.

Pic of tent setup. I am eventually going to move exhaust to bottom instead of top.

Hello, may I ask where the problem is? For the first two weeks, the mycelium spread nicely in the jars, and then suddenly nothing happened. Some jars, like the one in picture three, seems like didn't get inoculated at all. Has anyone had an answer for why this is happening? Do you think I can send the first or second jar to bulk? Or what should I do with them now? The strain is Panaeolus Cambodginiensis and the grain is rye. Thank you very much!

My setup uses about 1/2 gallon per week. My tent seems about half the size of yours. My humidifier runs for 10 mins every 6 hours. The rH goes from 99% down to 81% between cycles. Average rH is around 91-93% throughout the course of a day.

My airflow consist of the 6 inch unzipped flap at the bottom of my tent next to the bottom mounted fan. The fan runs for 2 mins every 28 mins. A total of 4 mins per hour.

My setup has worked with cubes, nats, pans, and tamps so far. I usually get pins about 7-10 days after casing with Pans.

Sorry, no, fogger keeps up fine. No issues there. I mean that it doesn't seem to be enough FAE...or there needs to be more dryer air
coming in. The air coming in thru the bucket fogger is higher humidity I'm sure, even when the fogger head is off.

Well my setup was enough FAE for Lions Mane so, not sure what issues you may be having, but  I doubt you have a FAE issue.

Question Is your exhaust fan the same fan that runs the fogger and you just turn the fogger off?

if so That could be part of the issue. My fogger and Exhaust are on completely different fans. I also exhaust outside.

Broke out the camera, and forgot how pigeonholing the 40mm lens I rock is.  But still felt nice to break it out again for the Australian Nightcap final shots before the chop:
