it was a lot to unpack. still working on it actually. i had done 1.75 of the same batch the weekend before, my intention was to keep the momentum going and see if i could go even deeper, as normally my big trips are separated by months not days. in hindsight, my mindset wasn't really dialed in that night and I knew better, but pressed ahead anyway. so yeah, hard lesson relearned on that one. haha

Anybody still spray paint their monotubs black to the depth of the substrate? I'm about to make a pretty large monotub and really don't want to be surprised by a bunch of sidepins.

Negative. I like the ability to see if the bottom is contaminating... as its  likely to start there after a flush or 2 with dunks.

Side pin remediation from compression, lots of it, especially the sides.

I like to be just under field capacity for sub... then heavily FINE mist the top layer. Top layer should be decent size and not compacted as hard as the sub.  And don't open it at all (hardest part but you'll be super happy you did)

Even with a friend or wifey consuming some weekly too? I know you guys are producing pounds upon pounds per month sometimes... but I am still barely putting out weight right now so we'll see. A few ounces is just novice territory, which is where I'm at. So we will see as I improve in this hobby and my yields get better. KSSS and Nats around the corner but im already through 80% of my Burma, b+ and GT flushed except what is currently flushing right now.

If you get the hang of this at all you’ll have more than you and your family could consume on your own. If I filled my cabinet I could make myself multiple year’s worth of mushrooms in a month.

It gets out of hand fast

I don't think no matter how much I grow it will ever be possible to outpace what I need to stay tripping each week. Ounces, pounds. I'll find time in my schedule.

I did 1 monotub years ago and harvest 8oz dry over 3 flushes. It will outpace your appetite a whole lot faster than you think.

What you think of this Idea? I will Bulk my B+ in a Pet Bottle with a 1:1 Ratio of Coco and Grain. I will of course closing the Bottle end with some Foil ore something. I have to Hydrate the Coco a bit with Boiling Water then i will drop the water out and let it Cool then mixing with Spawn 1:1 and close it and wait for 10 Day's and open it.

Sound good this Plan?

If I keep up the grow cycles I'm doing right now with three simultaneous types growing throughout the year... And can improve my yield from the roughly 1-1.5ounce ounce per flush to 3 ounce per flush... Maybe. Maybe!

Though If you read between the lines I'm saying without saying it out loud that self control has never been me and mine strong suites and we burn through stuff we enjoy fast. We went through my entire first two flushes in two weeks atm. Sad πŸ™‚β€β†•οΈ

Can two bricks of coir be hydrated in one 5 gallon bucket with a lid or will it expand too much?

Can’t do it forever, unfortunately. You lean into hard enough and you won’t be able to get high anymore, or at least that’s what I’ve always heard. You will definitely start to get diminishing returns though. Breaks are good for you.

May fit but you wouldn’t be able to stir it easily nor without a mess

One brick is 8+ quarts. Two is 4+ gallons in a 5 gallon bucket

I raise rabbits and have plenty of manure. I can rinse and dry it.

Question:

Is rabbit manure useful here and, is it better for cubes or gourmet varieties?

I think most of us use unmodified or filtered-only lids. Open the lid in SAB, pour in LC straight from the media bottle it colonized in, close lid.

It will fit, I always do 2 bricks at a time with 6qt water +/- 1 cup pending results.

I used these on half my jars. They all colonized fine and I was able to grow tubs. But your mileage may vary.

Can hardly even believe this is happening and am absolutely at my wit's end trying to make own grain spawn. I tried numerous times to inoculate oats prepped with Bod's easy AF oat tek with tested liquid culture. Every single jar would fail and would produce gummy mycelium before eventually colonizing rubbery and smelling vaguely sweet and bacterial. I assumed it was the oats because I felt I had controlled everything else.

I bought rye grains, made clean agar wedges and inoculated in SAB. Thought I was golden. Exact same thing. I think it's a forgone conclusion at this point I just buy premade spawn bags, but this has just driven me crazy. What on earth is going on? Is it my well water? Are my jars permanently bacterial? Do I need to soak my grains to deal with endospores? Everything I have ever read has led me to believe it's super fucking weird that this just does not work in my house.
