Sorry, tone could have been better. There's just a lot of bad advice out there that leads to poor results, which is a shame because the methods that have been proven over decades work great, and are often simpler. Grain spawn is grain and water - no need for extra sugars, since grains are mostly carbohydrates anyway, and no need for vermiculite which makes it hard to even judge what's going on in your spawn, since you can just let the grains sit in a strainer or in a mesh bag in the sink for a while to let the surface dry.

I really do wish you good luck. I think you'll have a lot more success on one of the paths laid out in the HHG.

Here's some healthy spawn examples. (Had to look pretty far back because I usually only take pictures of fucked spawn these days. :lol:)

Thanks Pal! It’s all good, I’m tough. I’m still pretty fresh so do appreciate the advice in any form. I did check out the spawn section of the guide again and looks like white wheat or rye might be my next choice of grain. I’m near a huge grain mill so things should be easy to find. Cheers!

I can’t get on Reddit without crashing out and arguing with people over all the drippy corn I see, can’t help myself :rofl:

I aim to just do a definitive side by side like millet vs drippy corn or hell even corn vs drippy corn. Gotta dispel the myth that it’s anything other than a stick in the spokes.

Just seems really redundant, especially these three


All of those could be just 1 thread. Feels like one “Rules/ Start Here”  is really all that’s necessary. And then within that thread it could link to all the goods like HHG, flowchart, contamination ID, updated TEKs, etc.

Could definitely be streamlined a bit, but I know that’s easier said than done, but also not difficult- just tedious.

I received a few agar plates that says "T9" on it. Does that mean it was transferred 9 times? If not, what does it mean?
And is "T9" a bad thing or does it not matter?

I'm just glad dippy corn is bring back corn being normal growing grain. Especially since 50lbs of whole corn is easy to prep at time.

That's crazy talk 50lbs of (Dextrose) is cheaper then whole corn for whiskey.
I was just saying hard boiling corn 20 mins in 20 gallon pot, letting sit 24 hours, draining. Jar or bag up a pc. Is the closest set and forget grain prep there is.

Does anyone here consider how the tissue strength of a culture factors into potency? For instance, I have a cross of tat blackcap x melmak and when they mature they get soft quickly, these fellas you have to harvest quick unless you want to eat some rotten fruits. And they bruise very easily. The culture I've isolated is albino and leaning more on the tat blackcap side because the caps make a stark contrast where the center of the cap is very bluish black while the rim is bright white. But I'm thinking maybe its only bruising so much because the tissue strength of the culture is weak, vs I'll have a yeti culture that has stronger tissue, where you don't have to harvest so quickly and worry about rotting, they're potent as fuck but don't bruise as quickly and as deeply.

So it got me thinking that maybe just because a culture bruises a lot might not mean its more potent, but just that the tissue being weak is the cause for it to bruise so heavily. Like maybe a lot of varieties and cultures you run into seem to be very potent because of the bruising, but in reality are the same or just as potent as a culture that has stonger tissue but doesn't bruise as easily since its so tough.

Not sure if what im saying makes sense to anyone, this is just some stuff I was thinking while I was harvesting a couple tubs of tat blackcap x melmac, and some yeti tubs the other day

Blue bruising is often misunderstood.
It´s a complex biochemical process, which you can also see on non-actives.
So it ain´t no indicator of anything potency related.
I had a lot of yields showing absolutely zero bruising,
but nailed me on the bed for a while :grin:

Funny, thats something ive been considering recently. I have this ape variety that stays like wood. Its super dense, heavy, and potent. The other variety im growing is very soft, even when still growing. It weighs far less and is less potent. PE varieties are very dense and heavy in general. Wondering if that contributes to the potency.

@goatrider: in psilocybe species i  thought its just a sign of the psilocybin oxidizing. Which is why I thought weaker tissue=easier oxidation.
Have you had the opposite happen, something that bruised deeply but you hardly felt?

@aspectOTC: I'm not very familiar with the entire range of PE to know or guess. Most of my melmacs I isolated are weak non-dense tissue but have been fairly potent, moreso than a typical non PE variety. The only thing I've grown that had the very dense and heavily potent pheno that everyone mentions when speaking of PE was some swpe I had grown. So ive either just had bad luck isolating melmac cultures with those traits and/or I just don't have enough experience with all the hawkeyes/homesteads/melmacs/melmacTP and swpe to be able to understand the differences/similarities
