Trying to track down what's causing my grain to contam either before or after the first flush almost every time.  One concern is side oats touching the edge of the bag not fully colonizing.  Should I be worried about these?

Making a new flow cabinet for a 2x2 FFU. Should I have it Horizontal to the table or are there more benefits to it being overhead?

This might turn out to be the best advice I’ve gotten in over a year. I’ve been breaking mine up with a hammer and it’s everywhere. As soon as the dust settles it melts from ambient moisture and then cements itself to every surface. You could probably build a house out of the stuff.

Overhead sucks unless you are working with pathogens or bacteria then it is highly advisable due to safety concerns.

Horizontal is best for non harmful myco work.

You have a room full of toddlers that just ran out of juice boxes and cheese. Some of the jerkier ones have resorted to pinch grabbing, and hitting each other with wooden choo choo's. Most of the kids are just watching. The liquid is the tears of the more passive kids that are being bullied.

The sugar being crystalized carbon, with the addition of a little moisture giving it some pliability or give, you'll likely break your fancy grinder.

For comparison chaga mushroom (also mostly carbon) is very crumbly but extremely bouncy and will break a grinder. A cheese grater makes quick work of large chunks in no time again and again.

Some cheese is very dense and hard and a grater needs to be able to withstand a 20 lb block without going to shit. Coffee beans crush up with the side of a butcher knife and a whack and are weak sauce compared to cheese.

A toothy rasp for wood also works very well for sugar blocks.

Any advice for a noob that's struggling with a second flush. First flush was great...for me. Now the smaller 6 qt one won't flush again at all but the mycelium has spread all over the old tiniest aborts I didn't scrape off and stumps and holes. And the 12qt tub only pushed up like 8 boomers only around the edge. I soaked em in tap water for about 4 hrs each. Can I do anything else but wait or should I soak and scrape the tops again or something.

Mycelium produces heat.
Variations of temperature produce condensation, as you also can see in the colder walls of your agar cup.
Mycelium is hydrophobic at the surface; that's why, with proper surface conditions, you'll have a glistering surface of "bubbles" in a tub before the pinning stage.
(seasoned cultivators correct me if I'm off)

LC to grain rarely takes more than a couple weeks. Those have been as ready as they'll be for a long time. They're definitely a bit distressed, probably bacterial (looks like a fair amount of condensation in there). The little "bumps" are worrying (maybe yeast), but they could be knots (primordia precursors) since it's been sitting for so long. When did they show up?

Spawn one per shoebox or try your luck outdoors.

45 days is way too long, my jars average 10-12 days to full colonization with 3-5cc of LC and a shake or two. Those look contaminated, maybe shake them and see if they recover in 48 hours or so, then spawn them individually to ziplocs or top fruit them if they do. Not looking promising though

Looks like pretty significant bacteria presence...

Clean spawn checklist for the new grower

You might want to try a different grain as some oats come treated with fungicides that can cause problems for mycelium.

When it forms into a ball like that. That usually means there’s a contaminant.

Hey guys i was stupid and sterilized 10 jars of wbs with the lid upside down and screwed and then forgot to flip the lids back. its been a few days and the grains look dryer, is there a way to rehydrate them or just toss and make another batch?
