Does anybody have issues with vacuum bags letting in moisture? I don't understand why and how this is possible, but my vacuumed fruit gets soft within a month or two ...

Yeppers. I've stopped using vac bags. I store in glass jars now. Mylar bags might be an option. But I haven't tested them.

Interesting. Why would they be better though? And can you vacuum them?

Did you pack them with desiccant packs? I have a handful of vacuum packs I sealed over a year ago and seems fine, maybe it’s brand dependent but that’s odd to me that after a month they would be rehydrating.

Absolutely positive they were cracker dry+ when putting them in in the first place?

Yeah, cracker dry, always. I dry mostly around 24h. And no, no desiccant packs. Idk why you'd need them in an airtight vacuumed bag?

Same.  I have vac bags of mush well over two years old and they’re still cracker dry.  Don’t use cheap bags.  I use foodsaver brand and store mine in a deep freezer

A couple months would indicate they weren’t completely dry at sealing (imo as well)

I go 24 hours+ @ 160F and even tear all my fruit’s stems in half no matter big they are… the bigger stems get even a couple more tears

The cheap bags were definitely crap. And I now suspect scamizon may have sent me knock-off food saver bags, they were even worse than the cheap ones 😂. Put me off further testing when I got the "best" and they preformed worse. Good to know it's a valid option. For my low volume, a few big jars have been perfect. I only keep my current favorite harvest as intact fruits, everything else gets ground up for capsules or tossed in the compost pile.

Okey, so it might be the cheap bags then ... I wonder where exactly could the air be coming in and if there's anything to do to make things better ...

Rechecked our sponsors and one ships spore prints out here

Shipping is expensive though and they don't have the strains I'm looking for. But I'll go ahead and try them out.

Crazy question. Does it matter the kind of lme? The only thing available to me locally are pilsner lights and other various ones like that. I'm aware you want a low as possible lovibond for clarity sake but as long as it's a powder it should be good? Don't want to order again from online, may have gotten a bad batch.

Glass is non-permeable, plastics have low-permeability. Yes, you can vacuum seal glass jars. This is a great tool for doing just that. There are other methods, too, but this is my favorite.

Also, here is a great thread that contains discussion about how water vapor can penetrate plastics and the rating and measurement of that characteristic in vacuum bags. It is counterintuitive that o2 and nitrogen don't pass through the plastics when the gasses are comprised of smaller molecules than water vapor, however it is a measurable and documented fact. So quality does matter with the bags. But glass is still superior.

And don't get me started on Ziploc bags. lol. Shocking how fast they let moisture in and out as anyone who ever tried to save a nilla wafer in a humid place can attest.

I'm going to be making my own liquid culture for my first time soon. When I search online I see a bunch of recipes that include malt, dextrose, peptone, corn syrup, etc.
The person I get my liquid culture from told me he only uses powdered brown rice with water for his LCs and he told me that's what I should do also. 3 grams of powdered brown rice with 400ml distilled water. I searched online and I have not seen anyone making LC with powdered brown rice.
I have a 100 percent success rate with his LCs. Harvested a few tubs so far.

What do you guys think about this LC recipe?

Here are some pictures of some of his "oyster mushroom" LC syringes, fully colonized grain spawn from his LC, and one of the grows.

You mean brown rice flour? Because in that case (and in most cases) BOD’s gotchu covered. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23922599

Fuck wait that’s my bad. I always confuse agar and LC. Regardless, there’s a few recipes on here that do use BRF for LC https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/28903929#28903929

I like the LC crystal clear and translucent:
15ml or 20gr of Corn Syrup
300ml of tap water (or distilled)

BRF is a brilliant nutrient but will result in more opaque LC, IME.

I live in thePhilippines and I will be getting sent a big box full of things from the US from my family soon. I want to put some spore prints/swabs in there for me. But the thing is they are sending it by boat which can take up to 2 months. Can they last that long in those conditions?

Okay, so, stick with me here...

If you're looking for cube prints you live in a country that has both pans and cubes growing wild.

https://www.shroomery.org/12260/Asia
Philippines:

Gymnopilus sp.
Panaeolus cyanescens
Panaeolus cinctulus
Psilocybe cubensis

After firing up the link-o-matic we can confirm that.

It's easier than you think to find wild Psilocybes and make spore prints.  A good resource is the mushroom hunting and identification section here at the shroomery.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/3

There you can use the provided template to request mushroom identification help from experts.  This is a stickied post that I recommend starting with:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12412007

Once you have your own wild prints you can use them just like you would any other print to grow cubensis.  Once you have enough of your domesticated or even wild prints, you can trade them in the shroomery market place for prints, swabs, or cultures.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/43

You can even enter free print giveaways as long as they are international and you have a shipping address that's reliable.

There's lots of ways to get spores, you don't just have to wait until you can order them.

Good luck

Oh yeah, zip locks are almost like storing in open air :p

Okey, so maybe double vacuum bags? Glass jars are out of the question, there's just too much product to store in glass jars. Maybe some very large tupperware boxes which have a vacuum port, or something in those lines?

Appreciate the info and links!
