Add on. I just find this amusing. Had a large plin, really it was big enough I should have kept it as harvest, but I put it on a plate in the SAB. The stem is fuzzing out nicely, but the cap opened up and dropped a spore print right on the plate. So cool! I love plins. My experience is confirming what I've heard others say - plates grown from plins tend to make plins. They're maybe my favorite way to inoculate. The GT PFPuck I inoculated with a plin was the source of genetics to josex poke and save my failing GT PFCakes. That same puck is now sitting in an 8oz jar of millet, and seems to be aggressively colonizing. I'll perhaps use that for g2g, or just S2B in a shoebox or something.

What On Earth Has Arkanaut Been Up To?
 Pinning plates to play with, devastated and dessicated plates of yore, and some water agar way in the back.   Spores of P. Nat from New Zealand (Thanks DK!) Do not like PFTek apparently (?)     They do like agar though! And HOW! I should have long since sent the agar2agar plate to grain, but alas, time is fleeting. The transfers from the spore plate might go to grain, though if I can pour myself a bunch of new agar plates, these would certainly benefit from a transfer or two just in case. I'm thinking of leaving the original two plates to see if I can get some pins to transfer.        Pan Cyan on the other hand from the generous Sir Psycho is happy on horsey poop PFTek and 2%BRF agar. Spot of contam there, so might need to do some more transfers before we're ready for grains. May want to make some horsey poo PFCakes for this one.    VOGON APE from my first flawed grow. Rescued a dollop of mycelium and have been cycling it through agar and PF substrate, needs more transfers and pokes before I'll be happy enough to introduce it to grains. Been a fun little side project though!   VOGON B+ Taken from a spore print from my original doomed B+ grow, these genetics are coming along just fine. Bit burned out on B+ fruits, it's been a heavy body high and an unpredictable mental trip, looking forward to something new.  DIRTY TEACHER I used LC in an AIO bag and got nothing but sad mycelium. I popped some of that on agar and one fine day I had a pin. The pin made mycelium, I poked it and expanded it and eventually got it onto 10 4oz PF Pucks. I tossed one that had scary gray fuzz along with the good stuff, and the one at the top of the pyramid is suspect, but the other 8 are looking ready to birth. Someday soon I'll have the time to do that...          Albino MVP. One of the first strains I put to grain, still no fruits. It took ages to colonize, ended up lookin baccy, so I top fruited. Also put some straight into bottle tek, but I think I did something wrong there too, guess I'll just keep waiting. I also tossed a wedge from a good looking plate into millet, seems to be getting close.        Same story with the Avery Albino, though I took a chance on one jar and sent it to Shoebox. Looks like I may get some fruits after all! A plate had pinned, so I tossed it in millet, shook it up a week later, it's growing but slowly.    Tampanensis remains elusive. I had put a puck to grains, but it was taken over by an invader mold and had to be tossed out. Had a pin from an agar plate which I put on agar and josex poked onto another plate. I squirted sterile water and poked myc all over the edge of the plate, so those might be individual colonies, but might also be a mix of Tamps and Contam. Once I have some more plates to play with I'll need to do a bit more transferring. Someday I'll taste those scrumptious Scrotes everyone's always talkin about...    I cloned a largish cluster of B+ from a PFTek grow awhile back straight to millet. Looking about ready to spawn, though A looks baccy and the other two haven't gotten into the top layer of millet, so we may have some contam. Thinking of spawning these 1:1 with coir in individual ziplock baggies.     Mazatapec moving slow, same millet as everyone else got. Hopefully just a characteristic of the genetics and not a grain problem. Slow and steady is fine as long as there's no definitive contamination.    A PF puck of azurescens sent to grain. Was really careful to do this as sterile as possible. Not roaring along but definitely progress. Been following AzureCultivator's outdoor grow and polishing up my HWFP substrate skills. Might end up using this jar for grain spawn if it all comes out OK. Azurescens on Agar. Long overdue to be sent to grain unfortunately. Might transfer off of this plate, though contam is a definite possibility, may just leave it and see if I get some pins to work with.      Who's hungry? King oyster moving slow, but apparently I never shook it, so it probably needs a shak to finish up. Lion's Mane is fully colonized, Blue Oyster looking decent in jar and mycobag. All millet. I have a block of HWFP with 5% wheat brain PC'd, still in the PC days later, have been mentally preparing to break it up and distribute it with grain spawn in other mycobags or ziplocks or I don't know what. Would like to use some of this grain as g2g, and put some back to agar or even PFTek for a reserve and an experiment.    Sorry to say my agar2grain FP+ is taking awhile. The one jar is looking ok, I have a feeling all of these are dealing with bacteria. I have a reserve on agar so I may need to restart, but these still have potential.        I got Hillbillies. Slowish, but moving along, no obvious contams, though again I suspect some bacterial competitish.                   Ahhh, Leucistic Blue Magnolia. It colonized faster than anything I've worked with so far. All the jars looked a wee bit suspect for bacteria, so I top fruited one, but decided to take the "what the hell" approach with the rest and sent 2:8 +2 to a monotub and 1:4 +1 to shoeboxes. Then a little over a week later some more jars had colonized, sent them to shoeboxes at 1:1 +1. Hoping to have some fruits to harvest this weekend and perhaps next weekend as well Theoretically should be stronger than the B+ I've been enjoying, and I'm excited to potentially have a big size harvest instead of the couple dozen wet grams I've had so far from PFPucks and bottle grows. Finally I've been experimenting with LI. Some clean agar to sterilized distilled water, shaken regularly. This is ready to pour a bit on a plate and see if it grows clean. Hillbilly and Leucistic Blue Magnolia. If it grows clean, then each agar plate will go to two LI jars, one of which will be used to inoculate grain, the other as either a master reservoir or to be used for the next round of grain. These original jars will remain as a reserve in suspended animation. Plan to do this with every strain that stabilizes. I don't actually know if this Hillbilly strain is any good, but the agar was ready and it wasn't doing anything else at the time... Welp, time for lunch! I used all my mycology time making this post, so I hope you're happy

What's Arkanaut Doing Next?
 From Bottom Right moving clockwise: Block of blue oyster mycelium on millet. I don't know if oyster mycelium is like cube, but it sure looks bacterial to me. Underneath is a sterilized brick of about 5lbs of HWFP (Hard Wood Fuel Pellets) with 5% bran. I'd guess this is something like a 1:2 ratio, so even if it is bacterial, I'm hoping the Oyster loves wood and poop so much it'll fly through that substrate and leave the bacteria behind. Apparently bacteria doesn't much care for wood. Hardest part is going to be the breaking up and mixing, all without introducing too much outside world stuff. Could be a disaster, but it's my first go at mycobags and my first go at gourmet and my first go at wood substrate and so if it all falls apart it's nothing but learning experience, so all good. B+ ClusterA 8oz jar of grain. Looks bacterial, so I'm gonna top fruit the jar. The jar itself is nearly full, so I'll put a baggy on top. This means I need to hydrate some coir... PCHA1B - This plate has a wedge of agar taken from a spore plate of Paneolus Cyanescens from a spore print generously sent by the dashing and debonair Sir Psycho. The dark spot in the middle is soot from sterilizing my blade in an alcohol lamp. I'm putting the whole plate into the quart of hard red wheat below. This, and the other 7 jars, were prepped following YoshiTrainer's low-prep Tek with water ratios for rye. It honestly looks pretty disgusting, all mush on the bottom and pretty well hydrated grains on the top, so I'm going with a big dose of myceliated agar in the hopes of outrunning the bacteria that will happily thrive in all that wet. First run with Pan Cyanescens. My understanding is the best strategy is to expect some degree of failure right away, but keep trying out different spore samples until you get something that aggressively colonizes agar, grain, coir, and produces great fruits, and clone and stabilize from there. The Tek is ultimately the same as for Cubes, with the addition of some horse poo, but until you dial in good genetics, it can be a bit disappointing. Here's to new beginnings! PNZB1B - This plate is a wedge of agar from a spore plate of Psilocybe Natalensis, from a spore print sent across the very sky itself from far away New Zealand, thanks to the generous and handsome DKeppel. This and its peers have grown fast and furious, as Nats are known to do, but again this grain looks like trash so I'm putting the whole plate in. First run of Nats! I've heard great things, hopefully I'll end up with some fruits to print and clone and nomnomwhoohoowheeeeeeeaaaaahh. Blue Oyster 8oz Jar - same purchased LC as the big bag but looks less bacterial. I'm planning to g2g half the jar into the red wheat 32 oz jar below. I'll mix a small batch of unpasteurized HWFP and mix the rest of the spawn 1:1 in that jar, top it with a ziploc and cross my fingers. Lion's Mane 8oz Jar - same treatment as the Blue Oyster above, fingers triple crossed. DT: Dirty Teacher. This is the rescued Golden Teacher from one of my original failed grows, and I've found it to be fairly aggressive colonizer. G2G with half of it on the red wheat below, mix the rest 1:1 with coir and fruit from the jar. B+ Cluster B and C. From the same big cluster as the one mentioned above, but the spawn looks good and not bacterial. Same treatment, half G2G to the red wheat quart, the other half mixed 1:1 with coir and fruited from the jar. Also Dirty Teacher, these will be birthed, verm brushed off, and soaked until I can get back to them, hopefully tomorrow evening.  Other minor tasks - the Cap from this guy has been in the SAB on foil for waaay longer than it should. I'm not running my dehydrator for one cap, but I'm also not interested in a microdose from a shriveled up B+ cap. I don't have any nutrient agar plates sitting around. I do have water agar plates, and a few PFPucks. I already cloned this from the stem, but I just hate losing any material unnecessarily. As long as it isn't covered in slime, I'll put it on something it can grow into. Probably. I really need to pour plates. I've promised to send agar wedges to various folks, which means I need clean fresh plates of these Nats, the LBM, Mazatapec, Azurescens, Tampanensis, and B+ (one that aggressively makes plate pins) There's no way I'm getting this all done tonight. I'm already tired. MK so tonight I'm birthing those Dirty Teacher Cakes and getting them soaking, then bed.  OK, done! Only 7 of the 10 Cakes made it to the end, 2 of the final 9 were only about half colonized, and I ain't got time for slackers. Still should be enough to make a decent 1:1 shoebox with a thin pseudocasing layer. Keep Shroomin'!

Donโt toss those jars. Fp+ is a slow colonizer and it always looks bacterial. Chances are it isnโt. Hereโs what my jars of those usually look like when I spawn them  Then they do shit like this  Odds are those jars are fine. Let em finish and spawn em. Because theyโre slow colonizers, be sure you put them in fruiting conditions right away and even a bit more fae than youโd usually do for the first few days while they recover.

Grow Pic Update
 Avery Albino Shoebox - not loving the whispy stuff and the darker patches, at a minimum I should at least get a couple fruits to clone from. It looks better in person.  Leucistic Blue Magnolia Shoebox - hard to dial in FAE and moisture. Haven't misted at all but I've needed to wedge micropore under the corners to cut down on puddles of condensation. Wiped it down at one point, prefer not to do that too often, tapping the myc with papertowel that could be carrying spores. It's an off brand shoebox, though I'm have similar problems with the standard sterlite boxes, though not as dramatic. I stopped adding water to my "evaporative air conditioner" and have left the plastic tent flap open so the humidity stays low for these guys. Seems like the grain jars like humidity, monotub would love some more humidity, but shoeboxes prefer it drier.  Leucistic Blue Magnolia EZdial Mono - just can't keep this from drying out. Misting when I can, close to once a day, probably needs a lot more, but at least it's fruiting well. MP 2 layers over all the FAE holes (it's a pasty EZdial) but still drying out. I do have some fans going in the room, not for FAE but to try to keep room temps on the lower end, tends to creep up into the 80s and above. SAB is sealed shut, always turn off the fans for 20mins or so before I open it up for sterile work. Sterile work = sweaty work "Dirty" Golden Teacher Pucks - the 7 remaining pucks are soaking in their own juices until later today when I can shred em and bed em. Nervous about bacteria so I'm gonna go roughly 1:1 with a thin casing for speed. If successful, this would be the second rescued grow. I believe some of the B+ I've spawned were descendants of the original Vogon grow. I have some acceptable looking Agar of the Vogon APE but haven't fruited them except for once in the first round, which then fell to trich. Regardless of quality, it will be supremely satisfying to be able to keep these genetic lines going. Perhaps once I've stabilized these three lines I'll attempt some crosses and see if I can get something cool out of the mix. Thinking about maybe the APE and the Dirty Teacher, could call it Professor Dirty Monkey or something.  --------------------

Early Morning 7/31/24 Update
 Dirty Teacher PFCakes spawned about 1:1 in coir, with a 1/4" pseudocasing. Some of the cakes felt a little slimy, though it might just be smooth, there wasn't any slime coming off of it The cakes I tossed had invader mold myc, so I want this to colonize and fruit as fast as possible.  Avery Albino coming along.  Leucistic Blue Magnolia shoebox coming along as well. 5 other shoeboxes are about 8 days behind this one. Colonizing nicely, no knotting or pinning yet.   Leucistic Blue Magnolia EZDial Monotub looking good. Some of this might be ready for harvest. No idea if this favors a PE morphology and won't open up more, or whether it's at that "just before the veil breaks" moment when potency is supposedly highest. It's late though, and I have work in the morning, so these are getting a few more hours. I probably won't have time before work to harvest, so these might get harvested on the late side. Mushrooms don't respect our schedules If I miss a chance to get prints (If this even drops spores) or clones, I've got 6 more chances on the way Keep Shroomin!

End of Day Update 7/31/24
FP+     Many thanks and big praise to Fahtster, for reminding me to DON'T PANIC. Just as time heals all wounds, so too does time grow all shrooms. Avery's Albino     These guys look so goofy, little white spheres. Reminds me of someone...  Leucistic Blue Magnolia    Yay! Also yay, I have 5 more shoeboxes of this going that haven't started pinning yet, but look reasonably happy. The fellas in the monotub are looking more and more leucistic-y pale. If I harvested right now, it would already be the largest amount I've ever harvested at once. Hurray for progress! Dirty Teacher is chilling in his Shoebox, settling in. My pile of to-do hasn't to-done itself, so I'll have to find me some energy soon to get that going. One of my FP+ Plates is pinning! A Tamp plate I thought was contam - most of the myc looks similar and is melding together without complaint. The New Zealand Nat original Agar plate is filling up all the free space inside the plate with myc, and the spore plate looks like a slow motion brawl in the clouds. Too tired to take pictures, but it's cool. The Pan Cyan has some odd puffballs that are probably contam, but seem to be present in multiple plates, so maybe it's tomentose myc? I'll keep an eye on it. My most soggy with condensation plates I set up on their sides, and most have dried up. Might need to set all my plates on their sides after pouring in hopes to eliminate the condensation insanity. I've been looking in the direction of LC lately. Not as a necessity, since clearly A2G is working well, but there's something kind of elegant about it that I'd like to tackle. I have some LI master jars for long term storage, but instead of making a "pour jar" of LI, I might as well make a small LC jar, maybe try the semi-solid LC with a touch of agar in the mix that all the kids are raving about. OK it's late, better force myself to bed or I'll stay up all night, and I gotta work tomorrow LIKE A CHUMP.

I am satisfied with our update
 The nats are trying to push that lid off the petri dish and escape, I promised them freeeeedom. Chunky little Avery's Albino you've got there, I'd be tempted to eat him, he looks a little lonely. Those Leucistic Blue Magnolia are absolutely gorgeous looking, well done! I hope that dirty teacher fruits for you, your commitment to rescuing is impressive. Hard to say without pictures, but my pans have definitely produced some "puff balls" on agar, I'm no expert, but pretty certain it's normal and you want to select the fast and whispy stuff because they can have a tendency to overlay. I believe I dropped TTBVI into grain at a T2 or T1 even, can't quite rememeber but I've read pans do best when transfers are kept to a minimum, I'm going to S2B tomorrow, 8 days after dropping into grain. I love the speed of these pans.

    Thanks DK! Your Nats will be completely taking over my grow room in the very near future. I'm anticipating harvesting 5 more shoeboxes of LBMs over the next couple of weeks, Then I'll be S2B a bunch of Hillbilly grain that's maturing with an FP+ Chaser. Nats and Pan Cyans will be colonizing master jars soon for G2G in a few weeks. I'm down to using loads of popcorn, so we'll see what effect that has on everything. It's about to be good times in the Arkanaut household! --------------------

Nats are on grain, Pan Cyn is on grain, Block of oyster myc added to bag of oak and wheat bran.
Shoeboxes harvested  Avery Albino - 70g All tiny, annoying to harvest, and the white circle in the corner is even more distinct. My gut says if I tried to be greedy and rehydrated the cake for a second flush, I'd instantly have a box of green, so it's time to say goodbye. The stems turn instantly black after trimming. These are probably potent AF. Shame they've been so difficult to grow. I do have some top-fruited jars that are making some knots and primordia, so I'll have a few more in the near future. If they aren't squat little lumps I'll clone them. I have some pins of this strain on agar that were longer and stringy, planning to move those to agar eventually.  Leucistic Blue Magnolia - 305g Not quite as beefy texture as the monotub, but plenty of biomass, I'm plenty happy. My other Leucistic Blue Magnolia shoeboxes are pinning. The first shoebox was made at a low sub to coir ratio, 1:3 or 1:4 I think, but these were all 1:1. I did a smaller ratio for faster fruiting, since the grain looked a little suspect to me. So far no obvious contam. Hillbilly grain jars are coming along. The top layer of millet seems to take a really long time to colonize, while the rest of the jar looks fine. FP+ jars are still coming along. A couple of them are far enough along that they'd probably be fine to spawn, though I'd prefer to do all four at once, and I may do grain to grain with one of them. The low-prep wheat jars have a puck of grain paste taking up almost half the bottom of the jar. The top half seems passable, but I doubt any myc will be able to penetrate that bottom puck of starchy mush. Don't think I'll be trying low prep again any time soon I think that's all the mycology I can do today before going back to attending to my regular tasks, but altogether a great success. The Monotub of LBM was 730g wet, 70g dry, a better ratio than I've had in the past. I think a beefy monotub is my favorite thing so far. Shoeboxes are cool, but there's something really epic about a giant bin full of solid shrooms. I punished the sub, but I left it soaking, hopefully it won't be too waterlogged for a second flush by the time I get it out of its bath. --------------------

8/7/24 Update
Leucistic Blue Magnolias are producing nicely. First shoebox gave 357g wet. Next shoebox is close but not quite ready, maybe 30% veils tearing. Giving it until tonight, maybe tomorrow morning. The other three shoeboxes need another 1-3 days until harvest. So nice to have a significant personal supply. My new problem is tolerance! I've been taking a dose about once a week. I thought I was growing weaker shrooms, but I played with the dosage calculator and noticed there's an 11 day refractory period. So I either need to take double a normal dose, or I need to wait two weeks in between. It's lovely to know that I have enough of a supply that I can, if I want, take a giant dose without being worried about running out, but I think I'll skip this week to get myself back to baseline, and at least get a proper sense of the LBM's potency.    Top Fruiters - these are taking ages to fruit. Glad I didn't try to send them to shoeboxes, they must be heavily bacterial to be taking so long. At least one trich'd out, but these three are at least showing primordia/pins.     Grains FP+ I might send #2 from the left to coir, or let it go a bit longer to fully colonize the last of the millet on top. #4 is very close, #1 and #3 obviously need a few more days at least. Fahtster himself assured me it's worth it to let these take their time colonizing, and accept that they often appear bacterial but are actually fine. I need to do another run of grain, and rather than send #2 I might save it for G2G.  Ps. Nat Zealand I put lots of agar in each of these jars, more than I usually do, but this grain is inferior. It was prepped "low prep" style, which I'll never do again for quarts, because the bottom half of the grain is a solid puck of wet starch. The top half is actually well hydrated, so I'll probably use this for g2g once it's colonized. These are all close to 30% colonized, might give them a shake, but could also safely wait a few more days. Would like to time it so I have grains to transfer to when these are fully colonized.  Pn. Cyanescens Seems to be taking to the grains well. Again I used a whole lot more of a colonized agar plate than I normally would owing to the low quality grain, and if this colonizes reasonably quickly I'll use this to G2G. This was from spores to agar, to agar, to grain. Vogon Albino Penis Envy I'm determined to fruit this again some day. These were genetics from an original failed grow, though I did get one flush from one shoebox and they were *chef's kiss* Hillbilly This jar was lagging on the top layer of millet, so I gave it a shake a few days ago. Doesn't show well in the photo but it's recovering decently. Probably a few more days and this jar can either be used for G2G or a shoebox. I have this same strain already S2B in two beefy monotubs and a shoebox.  Agar Time I poured a bunch of plates the other day. The tall stack is 1% BRF, the others are 2%. I scoured through my various items and here's what I'll be transferring.   These are all getting old and need to be propagated. Also I'm derelict in sending wedges out to a few folks, since I haven't had agar ready to work with, so I'll be trying to get something sendable out of all this. Herme5 sent me the darkstar, if I can get it going he's planning a giveaway. He also sent me the Hillbilly. I've been unimpressed with my own Hillbilly so far, while his seems to have done well, so I'm excited to see if his strain is superior. The shrooms are Leucistic Blue Magnolias with nice solid stems, larger than their peers, nice morphology and blueing, and grew in clusters, so I'll be cloning them out. The top jar is the remnants of Vogon Albino Penis Envy I recently sent to grain. The bits left behind look decent so I'll keep them going. Top right jar is Dirty Teacher, another rescued genetics which I have in a shoebox now, but needs to be sent to fresh agar to keep things going. On the right is an FP+ plate which profusely plinned, transferring some of those. Bottom right is a spore plate of Ps. Nat Zealand looking pretty wild. I was going to wait for plins but no reason I can't snag a few promising blobs of myc and send to fresh plates. At bottom is Avery Albino. My one and only harvest of this so far consisted of tiny little blobs, so I'm hoping that proud tall plin will make for some better fruits down the line. Bottom left is the tampanensis I've been struggling with. This plate is a transfer from a plin plate, and may or may not include some contam, so I think I'll be doing a lot of transferring before sending back to grain. At center is Pn Cyan, a transfer from a spore plate. The original spore plate looks even crazier. I don't know if those are blobs of invader mold, tomentose growth, or what, but I'll be choosing sites in the middle of decent looking rhizo and putting them on 1% agar, might put a trench in there to assist the myc in outrunning contam. On the left is one of many plates of a B+ line that seems to love making plins. That nice healthy looking plin will be going to a new plate, and if it looks clean I've promised to send a wedge along with a spore print to UtahGetMeTwo. Top left is Albino MVP, which so far I have been unable to fruit. This is the cleanest looking plate I have, but the edges are at risk of contam, so I'll just take a few transfers from the middle of the rhizo myc, put some on 2% BRF agar, some on 1% BRF agar, and some on Water Agar and see how it goes. Pending Trades
Apologies to the community and the Mushroom Gods, I am derelict in my sharing obligations. I confessed on the cultivation confessions forum, and had my ass soundly handed to me, so here's documentation of progress towards righting the wrongs. We've had some difficulties at home, but these seem to be settling, and I finally have time again for some mycology. I'm making plates to either send wedges from, or from which to transfer to another plate to take wedges from. Herme5 Ps Nat  This was the agar from DK in NZ which I plated and have transferred to grain, which it is ravenously devouring. I'll transfer a clean looking bit to agar and probably won't need another transfer, can just put a wedge of that into a baggie. Probably can send that out next week. I have a print from DK as well, so I can make a couple of swabs as well when it's time to send. LBM  This agar jar has the same LBM strain which has been my most successful so far. I put this into stasis in distilled water. I'll take from this agar onto a fresh plate, give it a week or so to grow, then if it looks good, transfer from that plate to a baggie to send. These don't seem to drop visible spores, being leucistic, so no swabs. LewDoja LewDoja sent me an incredible goodie bag with a half dozen awesome and interesting strains. In return: Mazatapec and Azurescens  These are growing so slowly on grain that it will probably be weeks before I'd be able to transfer from them. Instead, I'll put drops of the purchased LC they started from onto agar, and if clean, send wedges of each. Tampanensis  The plate I was going to do an edge transfer from has filled the agar, but also made plins, as this strain tends to do frequently. I'm going to plate those plins, then I'll send a wedge from the edge. UtahGetMeTwo B+ plinner wedge and spore print  I keep transferring plins from this strain, which continues to be productive on agar, and has been a fun one to play with, trying to isolate good traits. I now have a spore print from a large solid specimen off of a clone selected for clustering, I'll send swabs of that print. I'll transfer a plin from here to a fresh plate, then send a wedge from the edge. Update: Done!  If I have time, I'd love to get all the lovely specimens Herme5 and LewDoja sent me onto agar as well. Top priority is the darkstar agar sample Herme5 sent. Yesterday I harvested four shoeboxes, each about 100g wet. 1 Golden Teacher, 2 LBM, 1 Avery Albino (the one that looked contaminated from weeks ago - I neglected it and it had an excellent second flush, although it was now also carrying a bright emerald green passenger on the side.) These will be out of the dryer in a couple of hours. Yesterday I also put my fully colonized FP+ to bulk. Fahtster recommends the laymixing tek for this strain, so I'm giving it a whirl in shoeboxes, which I modified a la Pasty to be EZDials, since I've had such a rough time with excess condensation in these shoeboxes. Three quarts to three boxes, one quart remains. If I can get some grain PC'd, I'll use that quart for g2g. If I can't get grain ready, and all I have is popcorn right now, I'll just send it to bulk and propogate from clones or prints.  FP+, created by OG TC Fahtster Wedges are available from many Trusted Cultivators. Just be nice and someone will send you a wedge. Laymixing For the curious, Laymixing is three layers. Bottom Layer is 1:3 spawn to coir. Middle Layer is 1: 0.5 spawn to coir. Top Layer is about 1" plain coir. I compress each layer with a piece of floor tile I saran wrapped because I haven't bothered to buy a tile float. For the new, don't do Laymixing, it is considered unnecessary and outdated. I've had plenty of success with the current standard, which is to mix spawn and coir at a ratio from 1:1 - 1:4, then a top layer of just coir at least 1/4" thick. When I have questionably bacterial looking spawn, I either top fruit the jar, where you simply put a layer of coir at least 1/4" thick on top and let it ride, or I spawn to bulk at 1:1 with a 1/4" top layer of coir, so the spawn can outrun the contaminants. When I have excellent looking grain spawn, I like to do 1:3 spawn to coir in a shoebox, or 1:4 in a 66qt tub, with a thicker top layer. Top Layer seems to be synonymous with "pseudocasing," as far as I can tell. I think there was a time when there was much debate about whether to add a top layer that wasn't mixed with any spawn. There was ongoing discussion of whether the top layer should be plain coir, peat, and various combinations of vermiculite, gypsum, sand, and other ingredients. There was also discussion of whether to lay that top layer down at the very beginning, or to wait until the spawn fully colonized the substrate, or even became overlayed. For all cubes, the consensus seems to be that spawn gets mixed with plain coir and a topped with a layer of plain coir, and that has worked well for me. For all other species, best practices vary, and you can refer to their specific discussion threads, where ongoing experimentation has yielded lots of useful info, as well as Trusted Cultivators writing their own threads. 8/20/24 Update
Tubs: LBM - 4 shoeboxes second flushes have 4-5 days left to harvest. Smaller number of fruits, hopefully larger size Hillbilly - 1 shoebox and 2 monotubs also have 4-5 days left to harvest. Lots and Lots of fruits :-) Albino MVP - 1 shoebox, looks healthy, surface colonized, no pins FP+ - 3 shoeboxes, thick cakes, laymixed. mycelium in the bottom layer linking up between millet grains. Mycelium of the concentrated middle layer working up through the thick top layer of coir. Looking good, weeks from harvest most likely. Plates: I owe Herme5 a wedge of Ps. Nat and LBM I owe LewDoja a wedge of Mazatapec, Azurescens, and Tampanensis I owe UtahHetMeTwo a wedge of B+ and a spore print. Print's done. Today's transfers:  From top left: Tamp pin transferred a little sample to the plate below. B+ Plin, oddly blue in the center, transferred from the edge to the plate below. LBM transferred to the plate below. Mazatapec from LC, transferred the edge to the plate below. Azurescens from LC, transferred to the plate below. Pan Nat Spore plate transferred to the plate below, PS Nat from original agar sent transferred edge to the plate below. B+ cluster clone fruited one big fruit, that fruit was cloned to the plate, transferred a wedge to the plate below. "Dirty" Golden Teacher produced one big fruit, cloned here, transferred to the plate below. I have little baggies coming in the mail, hopefully have all my obligations met within the next week or so once these plates take. Then I'll also have the supplies to send out samples to others! I intend to bounce back from the bad karma of the long delay between my promise to send and completing the trade by doing a giveaway, once I'm all set up. Maybe I'll make a pile of prints from these hillbillies, they look like spore droppers. Other Plates:  Without listing them all out, these are all the samples sent to me by LewDoja and Hermes, agar wedges and spore prints, spore swabs. Have them sitting up to dry out the condensation that has developed. This next chapter is going to be pretty damn cool. I've entered a phase in my mushrooming career where I have plenty of dried fruits put aside for myself and friends, and every 7-10 days I have a harvest, grains to send to bulk, agar to send to grains. Just got some more millet, have some WBS coming, it's time for grain, and soon it will be time to make agar. I also have three Liquid Inoculant vials, one of LBM, one of HB, one of Albino MVP. Soon it will be time to withdraw some, put it to agar, see if it's viable, then use the clean agar to either make more liquid inoculant or liquid culture (maybe semi solid LC) to use on grain bags. Also my oyster mycelium is gobbling up the HWFP %5 bran bag. The Lion's mane is fruiting from its little grain jar, but I want to transfer that into another HWFP bag. Another jar of blue oyster and another of king oyster are also ready for HWFP, so I do have bags to make ASAP. This is such an awesome hobby, I'm so glad I found this site, and the wonderful people here to guide me to success, and the awesome new folks who show up and catch on and get rolling with their own setups. This weekend I took the shrooms both Saturday and Sunday. Now that I have a good supply, I don't really need to worry about carefully dosing, I kind of just gobbled up a bunch of shrooms and had myself a time. It was good to take last weekend off, but those were two excellent days I had, so I might dose again this weekend. Not just good vibes, but productive, and fun. Knowing this has a really wide safety margin is really reassuring. It's also amazing knowing that even if I lost all of my equipment and samples in some kind of catastrophe, the loving folks on this forum would gladly replenish my genetics supply, and I'd have little trouble getting the ball rolling again, even if I was just doing PFTek in empty jelly jars with a pot of boiling water :-D. --------------------

Good update - it looks like things are getting fun(gi) at the Ark household!
Are these the first Maz plates youโve made? Curious bc I have some pf jars of maz running currently. My next project is going to be to try my hand at semps with EF tek. If somehow I get some fruit and prints I owe you one. --------------------

I put some purchased Maz to grain, itโs very slowly colonizing. These are the first plates Iโve made of Maz. Cool, Iโd love to try the Semps! No rush sending me things, Iโm certainly not rushing to get things out the door ๐คฃ Never heard of EF Tek, but I havenโt read deeply about Semps, is that the standard starting point? --------------------

Iโm not sure if EF Tek is the standard starting point, but seems to be the best starting point for me and others who havenโt dipped their toes into agar/grain yet.
