A few questions about my PF Albino
    #6028284 -

First question is does this blue/green color in my albino's look like a contam or could that just be some aborting??

My next question is how come some of them aren't albino? Could this be bc it's a recessive trait, contam, or did i just mix up my jars again?

IMO i would say that they are just aborts/bruising. ive never had pins grow contams on them.. the contams form there own spots.. if that makes any sense at all.. i would say your good.. to be sure take a q-tip and rub it on the suspected spots, if it comes off clean its bruising/abort if it comes off w/ color its contams..

hope that helps out some..

Definitely looks like bruising, as to why? I don't know...

humm.. pics a lil fuzzy but it look blue.. :frown:  if its just in one location you could try cutting that section out of your casing and patching it with casing material or verm.  if i were you i would still harvest what was on there and either cut out the bad part or burry it outside.  but i would wait for another opion before you go bushwacking your casing

Bruising will rub off on a q-tip, but I've also never seen a contaminant that color of blue.  Let them grow, it's bruising.  I like that strain, very cool looking.

Anyone got any ideas on whats goin on with the ones that arent albino?

Lots of strains emerge from multispore inoculation. I suppose in your case, some of them don't carry the albino trait.

The heavy blue/green color on the pins is normal for the Albinos, it will go away as they develop. I've done lots of multispore of PF Albino and have never seen a non-albino fruit in any tray to date. Did you get the spores directly from a vendor, or through a trade?

Yeah thats what i was hoping for..

I got them through sporeworks and they are looking pretty good except for that it just kinda scared me...

Thanks for all the info

Grab prints from those normal looking ones if you can. The purple spores will carry the albino trait and are much easier to work with than the white spores. This is the first mix of normals and albinos I've seen come from Workman's isolate too. They look a little different than the original PF Halfbreeds that Workman's stock comes from.

You haven't been playing with the Falbino (PFA/F+ cross) that I sent you have ya WM? It's the only other albino producing strain I know of besides Workman's experiments and the original PFA.

Thanks again for the invite RR! This is fun. It's good to see so much interest in this beautiful strain. Pretty cool to see natural halfbreeds (or mixed substrains) again too. It's been a while!

And the print shall be made...

I only got about 6g dry off my casing.. None of them got over 1/2" tall even though they looked mature.. It's got some small pins right now with one huge, none albino, right in the middle that i'll make a print of.. I guess we'll see how this flush goes..

Sorry to keep posting my pics to your thread, but you've struck upon something very interesting here. No one I've talked to about the PFA (Workman's isolate) has had the pigmented fruits appear either. The last time I spoke to Workman on the topic no one else had either. Of course Workman would be able to tell better than my self, but those normal fruits just don't seem quite right. Notice how they are growing faster and much taller than the albinos. They really don't look like the PFC strain. And they seem to be clustered in one place. Almost as if you used a few jars to fill the pan and worked on from one end to the other maybe putting in another strain along with the Albinos.
The pics I've added are of the Falbino (PFA/F+ strain cross). Notice how both albino and pigmented fruiting bodies are all growing pretty much at the same rate and are proportionate to each other. The original PF Halfbreeds were pretty much the same way.
You say you may have mixed your jars again, lol, don't feel bad if you did. It happens to everyone! I hope you didn't but it seems possible. If not this is a significant grow imo.
Workman could give a better opinion being that he's the most familiar with this particular isolate. Hopefully he'll come along soon. Still, there's really only one way to be completely sure and that's grow some of the purple spores out.
This is a great thread! Haha and you thought this was going to be a simple question and answer thread! Now I just gotta keep an eye on this one to see what happens.
Having a stable albino producing strain that gives the ease of working with purple spores is a good thing. It lets the newer people in this hobby enjoy the experience of growing albinos without the difficulties of working with the light and difficult to see deposits of white spores.

Best of luck!!!

My 2nd flush has just started producing albino pins and has one huge non-albino in about the same place as the other non-albinos on the 1st flush and still doesn't look like a PF strain..
I'll be sure to make a print of this one and grow it as fast as i can.. I've also got 4 1/2p PF jars colonizing that are about 50% and i'll be casing those the same way as I did the previous grow, so we'll see what happens..

P.S. Keep the pics coming, I love this strain and really want to get it right so any info at all helps.

My ears are burning.

I am going to have to say that the normal colored mushrooms are the result of mixing a different cubensis strain with the albinos and not a reversion back to normal colored mushrooms. TCO made some good observations on the form and growth habits of the pigmented mushrooms. But this doesn't mean the that you shouldn't print and grow out the pigmented mushrooms. Occasionally, gene exchange can occur between dikaryotic mycelia of different strains. You might get lucky.

And I haven't done any work with the Falbino so there is no chance it is a result of an accidental release.

I doubted it would be the Falbino. It doesn't look quite right for that either. Besides you are far too much of a professional to do that my friend!  hehe It's good to see ya man!

Even if we're right in assuming...it would still be cool to see the rare dikaryotic pairing that Workman refers to as I have yet to attempt it with the PFA. The nice thing about working with the PFA in such experiments is that it is so different from other strains it quite obvious when exchange of genetic material occurs. Finally giving us a gauge by which we can determine just how "rare" such a pairing is.

Great stuff now matter how you look at it...keep it coming!
