I might be wrong, but looks like everything is aborting. I'd pick all the larger fruits soon before they get nasty.

Uneven growth: Is this to be expected?

1st grow. 
PF Tek, spores from a local shop, colonized, consolidated, dunked and rolled in hydrated coir, fruiting in Mateja's water tub. 

4 large mushrooms at this point, a bunch of very small, some cakes with nothing.

Yes totally expected. You don’t really get even growth from spore unless you’re lucky. It happens but it’s not the norm. Multi spore genetics grow at all different speeds and sizes. It’s not until you start cloning that you see more consistent results.

Your cakes look happy and healthy. Good work

Hey again folks, I would appreciate if some better trained eyes could have a look at this transfer I made a few days ago. And FYI, the growth was perfectly uniform before yesterday when I made two further transfers from the lower part of this plate.

The thing is, my agar plates were poured hot, which I think led to a layer of water on top of the agar, and the mycelium is very wet as a result. But, I'm not sure what I can do about it now.

My question is: does this water-drenched growth look like cube myc to you or am I simply growing mold? Hopefully my pictures provide enough detail. Thanks!

Looks like myc, maybe adjust your recipe and try to pour new plates, then take transfers from your current waterlogged plates to your new (hopefully) better plates?

I would pour better plates now that you know what you did wrong and just start over. Otherwise its always going to be in the back of your mind if things go wrong. Theres no point in trying to salvage stuff.

When using indoor lighting, what are the signs I need to look for to ensure I am not burning my substrate? Will the hygrometer I have setup tell me everything I need to know, i.e. temp and humidity? Is it possible the substrate could get hot and I not catch it by hygrometer? Idk, those may be some stupid questions, but I am so close and this is my first fruit.

^ On lighting, don't overthink it. White LEDs or white fluorescents, they don't have to be super close. If you can see the shrooms, they are gonna be fine with the light (or so I've been told). The lights should not be heating up the tubs.

I've been having great success with using Gnocchi Water (very starchy potato boil water) for my agar. I just mix the undiluted leftover water from boiling them, combine with agar and then PC it in an instant pot. Best growth I've had, always ropey.






Does anyone else use other foodgrade starch water for agar? I wonder if pasta water would be enough. Rice shouldn't have any leftover but I am pretty sure that would work.
