Grains that refuse to colonize can be an indicator of bacteria, but it usually comes with other signs I don’t see here. It could also be a few grains are drier than the rest.
Best thing to do is a break and shake. If they’re bacterial you’ll know in short order. If it recovers then you’re good. And from the looks of it that’ll be your last shake anyway

Thanks smelly! I'll break them now! You're awesome. Let's see what happens here. Also my first grow. It'd be nice to be successful!

You’ll have your answer in a few days.
I’ll say it looked pretty good otherwise. Didn’t look skoodgy or wet.

Mycodemus said: What’s the best food option for longer-term powdered shroom storage? Chocolate, coconut oil, gummies, something else? I want to make microdose portions but that’s going to be a hell of a lot, like more than 400 portions. I’d like some to be portable so I can do some individual candies, but I don’t mind having a jar that I can just scoop servings out of for home use. I was thinking for the bulk option maybe in a jar of coconut oil or a 1:2 mix of coconut oil and dark chocolate so that it’s self-sealing against air by the solid oil?
Chocolate is probably the most shelf stable, but to do it well probably requires tempering (I haven't tried making chocolates yet but there are some nice looking pics on the forum).
Not really what you asked, but if you're ok with capsules, they're not too hard with a capsule filler, and they seem to keep well (haven't noticed any loss of potency over 6 months). I fit about 0.35 g per 00 capsule. Somehow Beef fits more like 0.5, he must be compressing them more than I'm willing, or maybe pulverizing the mushrooms better (though I think my Vitamix with the dry container is doing that just fine).
or honey, maybe?
or tea then freeze in cubes?
Thanks for the replies, I was hoping to do chocolates so I wouldn’t have to order special candy-making supplies but considering I need to make hundreds for microdosing, I bit the bullet and I’ve decided on gummies from this recipe so I ordered some supplies for that like silicone molds, carnauba wax for coating the gummies, and heatsealable Mylar bags. Might try honey or chocolates in smaller numbers as well.
Does the water content in honey degrade mushroom potency over time? Is it better to do dried whole fruits or powdered in honey, or does it not matter? Does anyone have experience with this?

Is this mold on the bottom of my mushrooms? Cut it off or is it normal?

no experience with it myself. I understand it's a traditional way to preserve mushrooms in Mexico. Aka 'blue honey'.
edit: not sure it's a 'traditional' way to do it, but that it's sometimes done. not sure about degradation of potency over time.

Yeah I had a feeling about this. Honey is on average about 20% water, so if exposure to water degrades potency then the honey storage thing doesn’t make sense.

Dry mushrooms completely cracker dry, put in mason jar with two part sealing metal lid, lasts for years.
Traditional method of my redneck family, jar it.

Has anyone done Pastywhyte’s Ez dialed tek in shoeboxes? Would it be overkill to drill holes in a 5 liter shoebox? I’m thinking it might dry the substrate too quickly, has anyone done it successfully?

Shoeboxes do not need to be modified, but shoeboxes are not six gallon size. They are mush smaller.

No not from the tub design.

The small dots are mite damage.

Sorry I meant to say 5 liter. They are actually only 1 gallon. I’m looking for a way to provide fae without having to crack the lid. If I were to dub tub the 1 gallon, would it be adequate fae just from the tiny slits on the sides when perfectly stacked?

Thank you! I’m assuming they are still safe to eat after dehydrated? This was the second flush you recommend I toss it if it has mites?
