For instance, the proportion of coverage decisions categorized as consistent ranged from 32.0 percent (BCBS of Michigan) to 79.4 percent (Health Care Service Corporation)

Here, consistent with FDA would mean an insurer covers that drug for the approved condition.  This applies to recently approved (cutting edge) drugs as well as older ones.

Since I seem to need to say this, I am not arguing in favor, nor against, private nor single payer, insurance.

I can't tell if Ramaswamy is just playing stupid to attract MAGA. He said he would cut aid to Ukraine and let Russia have much of the occupied territories IF Russia agrees to end any and all military alliances with China.

A handshake deal should be sufficient.

Did he give a time estimate on how long it would take for him to settle that deal? Like 24 hours or something?

While routine care costs associated with clinical trials are covered by private health insurance, it doesn't appear that research costs are, which are the costs of the experimental medications if it isn't a standard treatment.

Quote:
Recent changes to U.S. health care laws mean that most routine care costs from clinical trials are covered if you have health insurance, including Medicaid. Other costs are covered by the study's researchers or sponsor. Before joining a cancer clinical trial, talk with the researchers and your insurance company to confirm what costs are covered by who.

What will I have to pay for if I participate in a clinical trial?

There are 2 kinds of costs associated with clinical trials:

Patient care costs or routine costs are the costs of your cancer care you and your health insurance company will need to pay for. For most insurance plans, these costs are covered for both standard treatment and treatment received through a clinical trial. If you must pay personally for a medical service, it is called an "out of pocket" cost.

Patient care costs include:

Office visits and hospital stays

Lab tests

Standard cancer treatments

Medications that relieve symptoms and side effects

Imaging tests and scans

Other laboratory tests

Research costs are costs that are related to taking part in a specific clinical trial. These costs are usually not covered by health insurance. Instead, costs may be covered by the clinical trial's sponsor and/or you may need to cover certain costs. Some examples of research costs in clinical trials include:

The medication being studied in the clinical trial, if it is not a standard treatment

Tests or scans that are only being done to gather data for the clinical trial

Before enrolling in a clinical trial, be sure to ask the researchers what specific research costs they will be covering and there are any costs that enrolled participants must cover out of pocket. Also, you can ask your cancer care team for help in comparing total and out of pocket costs of standard treatment and the costs of a specific clinical trial.

Healthcare has been pretty well settled on this forum. Give it a search.

Trump did nothing, it's not even worth debating in here.

I never said experimental.  As a rule, insurance, whether private, public or otherwise, does not cover experimental treatments.  I do not know why you even brought up experimental, as it has not been mentioned anywhere, unless it is an attempt to move the goal posts of what I said.

You are correct.  That was my leap in logic and I was mistaken.  I will say this.  My wife had an ulcer and the doctor prescribed her a pill and the insurance contested it because it was not a pill that they had on their approved list but yes, I had a mental fallacy and jumped past what you had claimed.  I did get that from some of your post that you were not against national health care but was just making a point.  I am arguing it would be good but will still be voting for biden as long as he is running even if he doesn't say the words.

If you aren't saying experimental, and are talking about FDA approved 'cutting edge' treatments, why wouldn't universal healthcare cover those approved treatments?

Why do you think cutting edge =  experimental?  Please see my other post, but that is simply not true.  No insurance should be required to cover unproven treatments, which is what "experimental" medicines is.

Because they are more expensive, and as seen in the article I linked, UK does not cover the expensive new treatments.  The same would happen here.  As long as the condition has a "standard" treatment, that is an approved drug or surgical technique or other intervention, that already exists, then the UK insurer will not often cover other, more expensive, newer and many times, more efficacious treatment.  The "cost" is determined to not be worth the "benefit".

Yeah.  Personally, I feel the overall benefits from single payer to all the people mostly outweigh the negatives that will happen to individuals.  The whole argument though seemed to be that some people think there is 0 negatives to single payer when compared to private insurance.  I believe that to be false, and making that argument to people who are on the fence is just silly, as it seems fraudulent.

I would disagree with your , it won't be better.  That comes down to faith, it is possible it won't be on the one hand but all of it depends on what and how it is set up.  Lot of fingers in the pie that make what we have pretty flawed.  One thing is for sure. Regardless of what you have, there will always be things that can be improved and always things that were not thought of, always a fight against grift.  It is a leap but does not have to be worse over all.  It would be nice not to work for a company for 29 years and then have them close their door and you lose insurance along with income. Never will anything work so good that an injustice is impossible. It might create benefits that are not part of the equation.  Like making it easier for people to take risk and leave a job and try something on our own.  That would be a whole other discussion though about inventions that might happen versus wage pressures to keep people.

All you dummies out there better send him some more of your hard earned dollars so he can try and buy himself out of his misdeeds, cause he looks like he is about to cry.  No sense in letting him use his own money.
