After about a month consolidated I'm getting pooling in my semperviva jars. Is it toast or anyone else getting this.

Just broke up about a 10 week old jar for the dehydrator, didn't really see any bruising. 2nd jar had uncolonized grain that I let ride to see if it would ever take it over but never did. Tossed that one but still have another 15 inoculated on 12/18 on the back burner.

I'll have to wait a week or two to try dosing. Just got back from vacation and dosed nearly every day so my tolerance is fucked.

So I was wondering how you can be sure that you’re not making tea with grain that had bad bacteria as well as the mycelium and then consuming a tea that has a lot of bacterial waste products that might not be the most healthy thing to do?

With a substrate that fruits that has bacteria there is a minimal amount of bacteria that will grow on living mushrooms without that rotting so it’s easy to tell but on grain you could never be sure.

there were people who were selling Cordyceps Tempe and other forms of mushroom tempeh that got in trouble because of high bacteria content, I guess this is a little different because you’re drying it before making tea and they were just frying it or cooking it from fresh but it’s still something that I would be curious about..

Yeah I'd be concerned, too. Just look at those jars. They look kind of gnarly.

I did this with pseudoaztecorum and it was a big success. I dehydrated for a whole
day at 160F. And then boiled it for a good 20 minutes to make tea. I would think
that kills most baddies.

It isnt about the organisms themselves as much as the exudates they produce that arent neccesarily destroyed with heat. Like if your food goes bad you can’t just nuke it and eat it anyways. It will still make you sick even tho the organisms themselves are dead the poisons they make arent..

Nah I haven't tried it yet. I've had some dehydrated in a jar with a desiccant pack for a while now just haven't got around to it. I guess I'm a little skeeved about the gnarly look too. The jars that have been holding any liquid I've tossed but still have 5 or 6 more that are ready.

You know every time I see someone do something like this I can't help but feel they're doing it not because they think fruiting substrate is too costly or time consuming, but because their substrates keep contaminating every time they try to actually use the spawn. :grin:

Zapotecorum is a no go for this tek. 3 months of colonization. No bluing whatsoever.
No effects at all.

I'll try the caerulescens next.

Caerulescens didn't work for me, either. So hoogs and pseudoaztecorum are the only
verified species as of now...I think.

That last part (.47 weight % psilocin in the cube myc) sounds about right, based on the effects of making tea from mostly full-term myceliated grain (probably only the one time :laugh2:).  Only the initial psilocin brusque comeup and low duration. :cookiemonster:

I'm not sure where I downloaded it from but I have a .pdf that looks identical to the one in the OP except for in the intro it says:
"The two species known with certainty to produce active compounds in sufficient quantity are Psilocybe semperviva/hoogshagenii and Psilocybe pseudoaztecorum, though it's likely that many others may be found to be equally effective once further research has been conducted. Psilocybe semperviva/hoogshagenii is the by far the best-researched, and has proven to produce material of superior quality and potency."

The pdf. attached to the OP says:
"The two species known with certainty to produce active compounds in sufficient quantity are Psilocybe caerulescens, and Psilocybe hoogshagenii/semperviva, though it's likely that many others may be found to
be equally effective once further research has been conducted. Ps. zapotecorum and Ps. mexicana are worthy candidates for experimentation."

Has Ps. pseudoaztecorum been tested and found to not work for this tek???

Thank you! I have a batch of pseudoaztecorum coming along now so that's a relief to know. I couldn't figure out how to search within thread and did not notice this info in general search. My ADD perhaps.

I have 10 jars aztecorum inoculated start of July. They took a couple weeks to fully colonize. Temp has been 72 and 77 (air conditioned bedroom) with one night it dropped to 70 a couple weeks ago. This morning 2 jars have fruits and one has a long skinny pin. The other 7 are fine.

The mushrooms, one in each of two jars and the pin in a 3rd were all right on top so I pulled them out and closed the jars back up. Got them with minimal damage to the mycelium.

Should I go ahead and dehydrate the mycelium from those jars and get what I get, or leave them alone and see what develops? Mostly looking to micro dose with the mycelium.

What is most likely cause of the fruiting in these few jars? Temperature variation/drop? Too much gas exchange in those jars i.e. too big an air hole (fiberfill for filtration)?

My thanks for any advice or suggestions!
