Feel love and compassion.

Hue's got it...you have to feel these things in order for others to pick up on it. Most people are quite good at picking out fake love and compassion, in my experience.

If you feel it, others will too

If that is true, are you saying the Jesus did NOT show love and compassion?

None of us were there, so how can we really know?

However in my personal experience, many (not all) people tend to pick up "good vibes" in those around them and send out those same feelings/messages on their own.

Ok, people must have been able to feel Gandhi's and King's peaceful vibes then which is why they lived longs and died from natural causes.

Notice I said most people....not all

Many, many people felt the good will of people like Ghandi and King, as evidenced in their followings and the actions of their followers. Those who killed men like these were either full of hate or were paid to do so...but many others picked up on the good vibes being sent out and shared in the love.

Showing compassion is not always a peaceful thing. Sometimes it requires force to do something like free a race, though the notion was concieved out of love and compassion. This often creates strong enemies in the ones who would not benefit from the change.

The local majority killed Christ, and King was disliked throughout much of white America and even some of militant black America.

On the other hand, Capone and Hitler were well-liked and respected by many.

OK so you agree the original premise was flawed? Showing compassion and love may or may not be noticed and returned.

You should not expect a return as it is it's own reward.

I expect nothing. Am trying to clarify the poster's view and why the evidence does not appear to bear it out.

No, actually. You've done little to prove its flaw to me

No one in this thread said that everyone would return love and compassion to you if you express it towards them...just that if you do express it, someone else will.

I did not mean YOU literally. Yes, not everyone will see or feel your love and compassion particularly if they feel threatened by it. "they will see it in you"...not always.

Barabas was chosen over Christ to live. Was he the more loving and compassionate of the two? Seems the loving, compassionate bit has a NEGATIVE influence.

No one in this thread said that everyone would return love and compassion to you

Tren, I am truly disappointed in you. The statement was conditional : if this - then that. It was not if this, then maybe that. There is a HUGE difference.

Clever.... I go about it by daily asking for it. I guess you may call it praying. Some call it conditioning. But the longer you ask your self or tell your self something, the easier it is for your mind to start to accept the things you say as true. Ask daily of your self to be loveing and try to be compasionate, after some time it will become and form into a habit. This is all speculation though.

Humans are not mathematical variables, Swami. There is no 100% one way or the other

There will always be some who act/respond differently (and oppositely) than others...that doesn't change the fact that some will respond in like kind.

What you ask is an impossibility...there are too many assholes in the world to love them all. If you feel loved, people pick up on your good vibes...if you feel enlightened, people want to institutionalize you. Get a dog...pet it and watch it wag it's tail.

I didn't ask anything... :smirk:

In my personal experience, the open expression of love/compassion generally causes the same emotions to be expressed in at least some of those around you. I have nothing against people who don't return these feelings...but the ones who respond to this expression with anger or hatred are the kind of people who don't get to see much of me

this is interesting thread...

ive shown love and compassion to folks, and they have shown it back to me. some total strangers.

however, ive shown love and compassion to folks and they have brimmed with anger at my "audacity" or my "foolishness", even some who are my relatives and i feel, close at heart with me.

ive also done the same and got total indifference...

i believe we are like the most revered "magic 8 ball" in our responses to anything (given any random situation)

50% Positive (e.g. "Yes - Definitely")
25% Negative (e.g. "My Sources Say No")
25% Vague (e.g. "Better Not Tell You Now")

but this is just me rambling.

peace
Casil
