You have a single 1/2 pint BRF cake? Have you made the SGFC? If it’s a single cake I’d use a ziplock bag or small container.

Thanks for the replies. I have 10 cakes inside a 66qt so they have a good density, which I've read is important for an SGFC to have the proper microclimates at the cake surface.

I like your idea though and thought about using Dawgybags for single cakes such as pheno hunts, culture tests, etc in the future. I'm planning to move to grain spawn and bulk substrates for my main production, and using PF cakes for the above reasons.

Ya'll think this bacterial jar is ready to be (attempted) top fruited? Going to dump coir on top and ziplock tek that nasty gurl. Or should I give it another 24h -48h before?

Thanks for chiming in!

The jar appears to be fully colonized. I'd say run it, buddy. Unless you're just looking to get a fruit to clone or preserve genetics via a print, you might be able to utilize the spawn in a higher producing method. I wouldn't mix it with other spawn though.

go for it and smoosh the coir down good, might help prevent a few side pins

Quick question, is 12 hours enough time from the end of the PCing cycle to cool down for inoculation of grains?

Nah I only need a fruit for prints and maybe clone. I have managed to clean the culture used to inoc that jar since then.

I was actually planning to duck tape the jar part where we can see the grains (to avoid side pins) and leave coir part visible and top fruit with upside-down ziplock tek but sure I'll compact that a bit with the coir :dancer:

Thanks man. It's only the second time I have prepped grains and I don't want to fuck it up with impatience.

Quick question:

Bought three grow kits. Held them closed with some water in the bags until all three started pinning, then introduced fruiting conditions (FAE, a bit of misting). One of them has since developed into a very nice flush - the other two, it would seem, are lagging behind a bit. The few pins that were there when I introduced fruiting conditions are growing, but there is a noticeable lack of new pin formation (at least compared to the first one, which literally blew up with pins).

A casing layer is present and is covered with knots in both of the lagging-behind kits. No noticeable contaminations, humidity seems to be fine (no bruising).

Do I:

a) Keep everything as it is and hope that the new pins develop later

b) Reintroduce the previous conditions for pin formation (close the bags, let the CO2 build up) but possibly halting the growth of the existing 4-5 pins in both bags

I hope I have provided enough details to not require pictures, but if I haven't, let me know. Thanks in advance.

Then you're right on track! Top fruiting the jar will be perfect for your use case!

c) post a picture so people here can better help you

Maybe you have aborts (stalled new pins) due to improper FAE or surface condition but it's so hard to tell when we are blind

Quick question:

Do these pins look normal? There's some serious coverage over the whole substrate so I'm hopeful.

Does liner need to be trimmed at spawning or can I just trim it down once sub colonizes some?

Has anyone used the large stick on filters for covering monotub holes? I have some of old modded tubs and don't want to mess around with polyfil or MP.

I suspect they'd work just fine. If you have too much evap you can double up, or if you don't have enough evap you can always poke a few holes in them with a pin.
