Hey has anyone used the grey Ball lids for PF Tek?  I got a bunch of em on hand that I'm considering trying out.  Plan is to drill em CBK style with one hole in the center.

-Kingboomer

I use the same lids for everything, 1/4"/6mm hole in the middle, filter disc. For PF Tek lid comes off in SAB, tiny squirt right in the middle of the cake CBK style (actually I often do ~5ml but just because that's how far the plunger goes onces it starts to move), lid back on. The center innoc to me is the way. When the outside is white the inside is good. And any bad shit that may have grown that didn't kill the cake is in the middle.

You can squeeze the sides of the syringe (provided it's plastic not some crazy glass job) to limit the solution to a single drop if the plunger sticks too much.

That'd definitely be an option but I'm out of filters, gotta order some more.  Just found a couple of unopened widemouth lid packs in the last box I unpacked tho, feeling like fafo lol.

Funny thing is if I'm doing spores to PF I still do the clean dry verm layer, so really not necessary to have the filter- though I'd still put a piece or two (or three) of micropore tape on that size hole. The original tek with 2/4 very small holes worked great with just the clean verm layer.

While I had tested my LC on a plate and it seemed good, evidently there was a hidden contam and it contaminated some PF TEK jars I nocced up.

Some of those don't have any growth yet. Can I re-sterilize them and use again, or better not?

QQ: I just pasteurised coir + composted manure, but now I realise that the spawn I wanted to spawn is probably really too old to use. How long can I keep the pasteurised substrate on the shelf before using it? It is in jars with unmodded lids, not opened since pasteurisation.

This works amazing for plates, too easy to blast too much with a sticky AF plunger.

Meh. Glad I got my beginner experience with rified vendor lc's to grains.

Started with .25 ml to 1 ml per grains n if I had contams in a few it was guarinteed my transfers/procedure and not the grains.

If whole grain goes bad it's probably that thing of grains I did.

A little of clean culture goes a long ways XD (if it's truly clean

Can't wait to get to that point I have stuff I've cleaned up n knows clean.

Soon.. I keep saying that tho I'm poor so itl be abit.

No questions mb just me bragging about getting used to ejecting .25 to 1 ml exact ere time. YEET

Yup, a coincidence for sure, it's a Wrestling reference to the Uso's and UCE means or is slang for brother in Samoan.  Jay Uso is all about the "Yeet"

Quick question,

I just made a couple of jars of liquid culture broth with honey and peptone, and after sterilization there were very noticeable particles in both jars.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

Is a 5 micron-filter bag enough fae for fruiting within a bag?

You don't need to maintain sterility when it is time to fruit. Cut it open once it's fully colonized and consolidated.

Like it's probably enough, but it's going to go in slow motion without the increased FAE

Yeah, that's normal. I'm told you can pour it through a coffee filter before sterilization, but I've never bothered.

Do Reishi antlers grow more readily in a high co2 environment in order to raise their spore bearing surface into "open air"?
Where conks (less "triggered" by an excess of co2) favour growing a wide surface area for maximum spore load?

I'm asking if this is the proper line of enquiry, cheers

:edit: antlers don't even sporulate?!
:sammy:

I always assumed the white tip, if left to its own devices, would eventually go spore coloured and poppem off.
:mindexpanding:
Well I think I'm understanding this a bit more- their forms and why they're like that- but still any recent Reishi growers first hand observations on their maturation/sporulation habits would be greatly appreciated.

Hell ya.  Yes lots of primordia a d You've even got some pins in that baby.  You'll have firms popping up and no time for sure.

That is kind of a big gap in the lid depending on with the climate is like where you live.

Just keep an eye on things if you notice it's drying out extra quick like surface droplets and stuff like that aren't noticeable. Then definitely make those gaps smaller.

If you need to you can flip it back over and then use something I'm too prop the corners up a little bit to give you the right size gaps that you need.

In the future you can allow Fae from the very beginning. We no longer differentiate between a colonization time and a time to introduce fae.

Good job.  Keep up the good work.  Cant wait to see the harvest. ๐Ÿ‘€

Plz post updates in the pic of the day thread.
