Wrong.  The 4 Mar law was that media couldn't intentionally give fake news, not they couldn't call a war/invasion/etc.

No, fake news.  Read the law, or show me an example where someone got in trouble for saying something that wasn't obviously a lie.

It's exactly why.  People in Russia like to protest without a permit if they think Westerners will cry foul.

No. That’s a rumor mill and you know it. In the other thread you said he’s been missing for a a few days and “presumed dead.”

We've seen evidence of Nazis killing people for far less than speaking up against Ukraine.

He's been missing for almost a week now, and while I agree his death hasn't been confirmed yet, I'd bet you money if he is ever found, there will be evidence of his murder.

You see, we can't have people inside Ukraine telling us what's happening there, we must have CIA talking points telling us that.  Amirite?

So reports of his death are unconfirmed. There is no evidence he’s dead. He’s been missing for 5 days. That is the only thing you know.

You gonna call out chopstick for posting make believe? Nah

Falcon, who decides what is fake news? For a time, calling the invasion a war was fake news. If people want to steer clear of trouble, they probably shouldn’t say anything that conflicts with the government. They don’t even have to prosecute anyone. The law itself serves to curb any speech that doesn’t align with the official narrative.

That isn't the opposite. That's just another influential factor. I'm not debating with you the existence of separatist sentiment in the region. I'm debating the legitimacy of a referendum under occupation. I don't think it can have any. You seem to be a big fan. I'm not sure I can find a way to agree with you on this.

You or Putin, lol. Not you or shivas.wisdom.
:cookiemonster:

Call it what you want, Russian forces were in occupation of the region before the vote, outside the scope of their treaty. Putin admitted it. No amount of sugar coating can change it.

1."Mr. Putin signed a law that effectively criminalizes any public opposition to or independent news reporting about the war against Ukraine. Taking effect as soon as Saturday, the law could make it a crime to simply call the war a “war” — the Kremlin says it is a “special military operation” — on social media or in a news article or broadcast. Announcements that the law was coming had already pushed Russian independent media outlets to shut down in recent days, and more followed on Friday." NYT 3/4/2022 Anton Trianovski

2. "Russia's recent adoption of a punitive 'fake war news' law is an alarming move by the government to gag and blindfold an entire population," three independent U.N. experts appointed by the top U.N. rights body, the Human Rights Council, said in a statement.

"...the law places Russia under a total information blackout on the war and in so doing gives an official seal of approval to disinformation and misinformation," they continued.

The experts, known as Special Rapporteurs, are Irene Khan, Clement Voule and Mary Lawlor and are tasked with reporting on violations of the freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly and on the situation of human rights defenders.

Russian officials have said that false information has been spread by Russia's enemies such as the United States and its Western European allies in an attempt to sow discord among the Russian people. It calls its actions in Ukraine a "special operation" to disarm it, counter what it views as NATO aggression and capture leaders it calls neo-Nazis.

The U.N. experts also called on a newly-established international commission of inquiry being set up by the U.N. Human Rights Council to investigate alleged violations of freedom of expression and the media by Russia. read more

The council is the only intergovernmental global body to promote and protect human rights worldwide. While its decisions are not legally binding, they carry political weight and can authorise probes into violations." Reuters 3/11/2022 Emma Farge

What do you mean "under occupation"?  Russia had it's military in Crimea for a long time before the referendum.  Were all those elections not legitimate?

As I pointed out before, there are two different laws, but the New York Times put their own fake news spin on it (it was previously shown the New York Times posts more fake news than RT.com).

What's important now is to stop sending weapons into Ukraine before we escalate the war and blow up the world.

I wish you would respond to my responses in kind instead of piecemeal.  It would be nice to have a system here if we're going to continually butt heads.

So the globally reputable NYT is spun and biased but the "trust us" Russian state media is sheer fact?  Where exactly was it shown that NYT is less reputable than RT? I'd love to see you back that up. I'd really love to understand how you think a free press could possibly be less accurate than one run by the state.

If you really cared you would source your shit.

I mean the military occupation that began when Russian forces began operations outside the scope of the treaty that had them there in the first place. The one Putin claimed was necessary to protect the referendum from imminent interference by Ukraine.

Again, you say there was no invasion, no occupation but Putin disagrees. Who should I believe?

Why do you have this strange fantasy that anyone in Crimea felt "occupied" when Russians had always been in their territory?

He’s so disingenuous. Russia leased a naval base in Crimea from Ukraine. That’s why there were Russian troops in Crimea prior to 2014.

Honestly, the fact that Russia even tolerated the presence of these scum in the first place is pretty mind blowing.

Are you able to give me a direct answer to this question?

If you really feel the way you describe, then why not just move to Russia?

I'm sure they would love to have you.  I WILL pay for a one way ticket for you.

Why stay somewhere you seem to despise so deeply?

Says the guy STILL advocating for ww3 to protect an openly Neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine guilty of COUNTLESS murders and disappearances.

If you hate Russia SO MUCH, then why don't YOU go to Ukraine and fight Russia instead of volunteering tens of millions of Americans to die for YOUR illogical hatred and shameless propaganda, or are you a coward?
