The truth
    #2767692 - 06/06/04 12:51 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Everybody likes the smell of their own truth, or fart, sorry typo. We all love the smell of our own farts .. correct? Well, why is that? We have to assume that any model of the universe not incorporating an explanation for this is FALSE..

Or can you prove this is not true?

We spend a lifetime collating, incorporating and processing data to come up with some view of the world. If that view is shown to be erroneous, it might, just might, speak of our own fallability. We cannot have that, now can we?

Because you did it. It's a perfect example of how the ego incorporates itself into your senses, I think. They all have the same general unpleasurable smell, but its who is smelling it makes all the difference in the reaction.

Wow, never thought I'd think this deep about farts.

No, not necessarily "false"...only incomplete. Yes, there is a difference

every direction you look has it's own truth.

sometimes it is a solid thing aimed at your head for standing in someone's way.

could you imagine what it would feel like to see in all directions at once & from all points of view.

I don't love the smell of my own farts. Maybe some of us have a more sensitive nose than others...

smell varies so much
maybe that is why
smelling is a frequent religious symbol for finding truth.
it is so intimate an issue between the sniffer and the sniffee.

then there is the case of dogmatic truth which is when a big dog forces everyone else to smell his truth only.

eucch!

Well, I'd say most sane and reasonable people enjoy their farts immensely.  However, I have a housemate who produces gases so foul that he quite dislikes them, and makes sport of going into other peoples' rooms when he feels he is liable to fart in order to subject others to his horrid, unlovable farts.  He then goes back to his room.  Any belief system not incorporating how that man can produce such vile odours that even the external ego-recongition process can't make him like the smell is obviously very flawed.  And yet I can't think of any belief-systems that have successfully tackled this matter!  :wtf:  :shake:

Just a note of caution:  It is strongly recommended that you not go 'straight to the source' in enterprising to enjoy a fart.  Remember your lab procedures, just waft the odours towards yourself.  Chemicals  that are found in the digestive tract and in farts can be detrimental if inhaled into the lungs in excessive concentrations...

Don't worry, I'm wrong.

When it comes to truth think about myself and all the other skizophrenics that have had their internal realities all blown to hell with delusions and hallucinations. Not only is the truth a bit swayed, most of it isn't even existant.

Now for the not so mentally ill, about 5 years ago that was me. I was only searching for more inventive thought to cling on to. This forum helped out a lot, so much i found truth in more things then i had ever imagined. There is this world i live in that being born into not everything i think of can and ever will be held as a truth. I hold dearly to my objective reality basically to hold a good construct to keep the mind in one piece. Not to let my subjective reality run wild.

The earth and all the lovely humans on it may or may not even be here for a reason other then that to exist. The great almighty being or wholeness that is of this creation is also a truth i hold to knowing that this short yet sometimes uncomfortable ride is just stepping stone in the whole of things. Maybe i'm a human now but for when i die my particles may become seperate entities. I may become a frog or a toad, not neccessarily reincarnation with soul and rememberance of what i was before my time. But in physical body, after it is taken back into the earth and able to form different. Time to me is irrelevant that the fact that i can view it in different perspectives. Still it hold a truth that i can hardly grasp of how time moves.

Time, the great wholeness of things, existance.

Peace,
Droz

"Belief does not require something to be true. It only requires us to believe that it is true!" (What to Say When You Talk to Yourself by Shad Helmstetter)

I have certain beliefs, and they may be delusional or not. But the fact that I believe them to be true makes them true, imo.

the truth is that if you can't smell the truth, you fabricate a purpose that makes the best sense (the source of compassion) - > having reality all blown to hell is a terrific starting point for this.
No constructs - no preconceived notions.
Don't buddhists have a thing about voidness, and an instruction to take refuge in what is happenning. (that which emerges out of voidness) and then you begin to steer this with compassion.
an ongoing voidness/creation/compassion thing.
