Thank you for all the information!

The first post with the nice growth was a GT germ plate, I do still have it and did a small transfer off of that.

The yellow contam was a TED germ plate, all 5 of those TED are contaminated in the same way.

The same time that I did those TED plates I did 5 plates of GT and all 5 of the GT are clean, so I am pretty sure that the TED syringe is contaminated.

Also, I had poured those 10 plates of light dme agar several weeks before inoculation so they were all clean to start with.

And I used a SAB/Glove box, sprayed everything with 70% iso,

You said you're short on plates, here's how to do "pasty plates",:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19208976/vc/1

It's basically petri dishes with cheap stuff you buy from grocery store. Only problem is you can't see as well into them, but you can also use these "holy grail plates" instead, cheaper than sterile empty plates, and you can see inside the top:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26374265#26374265

You can get those on amazon. You'll need a pressure cooker for either. If you don't have one and buy one, let me know first what your budget is and I'll find one for you.

Can't use rice cookers, shouldn't use insta pots, has to be real pressure cooker, hopefully with pressure gauge. Sometimes you can find them at salvation army.

17 quart Presto is what I use, and minimum you want. That will do 7 one-quart jars at once. And it's the smallest I know of with a gauge.

If anyone knows a good PC that is less expensive, lay it on us.

Great! I'll look into it, I do have a pressure canner with a 15lb rattler it doesn't have a gauge but I've been using it for for agar and substrate.

I would love to get a 21-23qt and I've been looking for a good cheap used one but it's not a huge priority, just something I'm keeping one eye out for.

I'm also growing oyster and lions mane, and gotten a first flush from both of those, for those I pc'd grain and substrate and inoculated the grain, then grain to sub.

Got a pile of plates to transfer to a pile of plates. Pretty sure I have multiples of all varieties in house atm. Will skip anything with contam unless it the only plate.

I don't use a SAB anymore. I have much better results with my 24x48-in FFU.

You infact can 100% steam agar and also cook it in an instant pot I do quite literally all the time. Especially holy grail no pours.

If you don't plan to go past pf cakes or pints of grain an instant pot is a fine mycology tool. Even moreso if you pick it up for $20-40 at a thrift store.

Don't get me wrong my pressure canner is some of the best money I've spent. I really don't think it is for everyone though.

Instant pots are great for cult.

I used to use mine to do one quart jar of wbs at a time but now I use it for agar, lc, sterilizing tools, pasteurizing subs and casings.

So much faster and easier than running a pc for all that stuff, plus the keep warm button is auto pasteurize which is nice.

Which ones? most don't do 15 psi, they seem to consider 12.3 psi "high" and some only do 5-8 psi:
https://instantpot.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/EPC-Time-Table-2020-03-31.pdf

Sounds like it would be good for pasturizing. Do you pastruize hpoo in them? I'm about to do that this week and welcome advice.

I've heard those take like an hour more than (or even double) normal teks.

There's one that I think is specific for chicken that does 15 psi.

I tape 3 quarters to the rattler to keep it from rattling. Some folks on here do that. I use metal tape made for furnaces, but regular tape might work, not sure. Might melt / burn. Anyone know?

I had OK luck with one of those, Presto also, I think 7 quart, before I got my 17 quart with gauge.

I did pint jars of grain in it. Thing I heard was "If you flick drops of water on the top and they instantly ball up and skip off or evaporate, rather than sitting there, that's about the right pressure."

Hard to tell if old PC worked less well because same time I got better PC I got Flow hood, made all the difference.

I use a cloth tape I use for hotspots/blisters cuz that's what I had on hand at the time. It's held up for ~100 PC cycles. I wouldn't recommend adding any weight to his rattler though since he doesn't have a gauge, I'm pretty sure the rattle is his PC models way of regulating pressure

Ah. Good idea.

I did the 3 quarters with my old one, but was always worried it would blow.

AKA, looks like you have the instapot that does chicken. I searched instapot on here and you were the first result:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26520885#26520885

I shopped for instapots once, they seem to not make the PSI thing obvious. I found it hard to even find the PSI rating for particular models.

If a cooker dosnt reach 15 psi cooking times can just be extended. Sterilization can even be achieved at zero psi given a long enough run time. Mine reaches 13 psi.

I cook 3 or 3.5 hours for grain or cakes and 45 mins for agar or lc. Grains are in smaller containers that reach temp faster than quarts and also help at max temp longer than quarts.

It's the same principal as an atmospheric steamer those typically only heat the substrate to less than 200 degrees but hold them for several hours.

So yes it takes longer, however being able to set, vent, and go to work or sleep outweighs that.

I saw someone ... say 8 hours for quart of grain.

I'm not sure I don't have a steam set up yet but I believe I read 12 or 24 hours for bags of grain in a steamer. The common names are bubba barrel and ez bake barrel if you care to look it up.

This is where one of our own took the time to write a Tek on how he gets it done in an instant pot. If I can get over being a giant pussy I'd like to do the same.

Sometimes it's about making cult fit into your workflow more than doing the "most optimal" as deemed by the mushgods. I use an instant pot and an aa75x on an old school mechanical timer. I run muda bottles in tubs for ease of use and higher BE. I no boil overnight soak Milo or birdseed.

Yeah I’m not sure what model mine is exactly but it’s made by farberware.

I had to read through the manual but eventually figured out the chicken was the highest setting and hit 15psi.

I haven’t done straight manure but it’ll work fine. I do composted steer manure for pans, I just mix up the sub then hydrate it and load it into a unicorn or turkey bag and throw it in there with the little bit of water it takes to fill up around it.

The main thing is to make sure whatever you’re pasteurizing is hydrated so the heat transfers throughout the entire bag. I usually just turn it on before bed and take it out in the morning but a couple hours would be ok too.

I taped 3 quarters to my Presto 23-quart rattler, per bod. Works great, but I took a while to dial in the eact heat on the stove. Now it just sits at 17-17.5 psi all the time, but no way in hell would I run it without the gauge it has.

Used REAL gaffer's tape. great stuff and worth the $25 a roll.
