Book Report:

Illusions, The adventures of a reluctant messiah

By Richard Bach

Synopis:

A modern day messiah travels the midwest by airplane, selling rides for three dollars. He befriends a fellow aviator and they have a mutually educational friendship in which both get a better understanding of the illusion that is space time and themselves.

My reaction:

Like most things that are true, this book aggrevated me. It must have triggered my shadow or something, because I wanted to throw it away after twenty five pages. I read through it though, and I was impressed.

I command that you be happy in the world, as long as you live-what will you do then?

Perspective, use it or lose it, If you turned this page, you are forgetting that what is going on you is not reality

You teach best what you most need to learn

The original sin is to limit the IS. Don't.

As the two travel, the Messiah tells his friend that everyone is enlightened and has the capacity for performing miracles. He tells him that after a while, you get used to being killed for what you say, and after a while, you find it amusing.

The messiah travels and spreads the word. He challenges people to be happy and follow their heart. He says the world would be the happiest place on earth

Author's Note: I caught that during proofreading, but i laughed to death, so I am leaving it .

The Man learns about space time and how it's an illusion. He is able to walk on water and swim in land. He learns to walk through walls and all of that funky shit.

Eventually, the Messiah is murdered by country men for what he said.

The book ends with "Everything in this book may be false."

Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a light, spiritual read.

I read it through at the recommendation of a friend. It was definitely an enjoyable read, but very "light", in a sense. Skimmed over many issues, but really avoided the meat of most of them.

As a little note of trivia, didn't that author also write "Jonathan Livingston Seagull"?

Great book. It is sparse, but that is part of its genius. You fill in the blanks with your imagination. Kind of like listening to the radio in that sense.

Richard Bach did indeed write Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Interesting man.

I found a link to the full text of 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' online.

It's a great allegorical tale and I think it would be excellent way for children to absorb some spiritual messages and enjoy a good story at the same time.

I just read this book a few months ago.
I thought it sent a good message.

The messiah is frustrated that people, instead of following his example and listening to his words of wisdom, is pissed because they just want to use him to heal their wounds. Similar to what jesus found frustrating, i'm sure.

Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.
It isn't more complicated than that.
It is opening to or recieving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is,
without either clinging to it or rejecting it.

Your post kind of negates the need for anyone to ever read the book, since you gave away pretty much the entire story.. you might want to consider trimming off the end of your post where you gave away the ending.

oy veh, what the hell do you THINK is gonna happen to ANY messiah-type in the modern world?

(hint: and then the angry crowd surged forward and...)

& how many more times must we crucify him, indeed?
