But reading is an excellent method of acquiring knowledge.
Only if they are based on facts and not illusions.
I start reading and the author goes on and on and on about nothing, or little of something, but they write as if I was a stupid child.
So whats the source of facts and knowledge do you use? I have a heavy attachment to books, reckon i could give em up if i had to tho!
Big favourites for me: Cosmic Trigger - Wilson Undoing yourself with EM - Hyatt Power of Now - Tolle The Global brain awakens - Russell

Both The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged have helped me in the quest for what I was always looking for in life. Unparalleled as far as I am concerned in philosophy. Do not be put off by the size of the books, If you make it past the first couple of chapters's and find yourself seriously relating to it pages will go by faster than anything.
Murex, these books deal alot with complete control over oneself and I believe if you appreciate Tool, which I know you do, then you may find a thought or many from this book going along with some of Maynard's philosophies. This book will provide examples of everything there is to hate and conquer them all. It is truly a Free-Thinker's book. The least you could do is rent a copy from library and read the first chapter of The Fountainhead. I think you will be intrigued with the presentation of all those in society that feed off of the few of us left that are still human.

I also forgot to mention that The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxyis a good book to read when you are just sitting around. It is by far the most ironical book I have ever read. Never before have I laughed out loud from a book. It also is a perfect example that life comes and goes as it pleases, but this message is mixed with the humor and much of it is lost as this book is almost to rediculous.

i should put this into context. i guess i was about 12 or 13at the time i read it, and it uses NO vulgarities what so ever, BUT i couldn't go more than a few pages B4......? .....another book that had similar effect was "Candy" by Terry Southern again though GB, this was (too) many moons ago

Chronicles of Tao by Deng Ming Dao is a sweeeeet book.
It's the biography of a guy name Kwan Saihung. The story starts when he is taken by the taoists up into the mountains to begin his education, and the backdrop is the old China dying and the new, modernized, communist China coming into existence. It gives some very interesting insight into the area where taoism and shamanism intersect. Immortals, demons, martial arts, magic, and politics. Highly reccomended if you have ever been interested in anything.

You are reading right now ...
on topic:
1. Tropic of Capricorn
2. Tropic of Cancer
any other books by Henry Miller, like The Air-Conditioned Nightmare, Miller's view on American Culture
3. Neitschze I think that's how you spell him
4. Bible =)
and I agree with Supermarket here:
"By reading, you view someone else's perspective. You understand how others view life. This doesnt mean you accept it, instead you just take the information in , then let it go."

books... tiny pieces of holofilm, infopackets teeming with databits, from a certain point of view... facts, opinions, dreams, fantasies, myths, metaphors, spellweaving nets of words, a brief journey from now/here into ??? expand your horizons without leaving your study... exercise your mind and your imagination... stretch your spirit and intellect with little drabs of ink splashed onto paper... i think i like books...
