Sometimes I get overlay if they dry out, but in this case I'd say cleaner spawn is your issue, that second pic in particular has a lot going on.

I think it’s just bad shadowing in the picture, I toss bags if anything seems off with them. I didn’t get any signs of contams at all in my spawn bags.

If what you have truly is overlay in cubes it’s a genetic issue. Overlay in cubes is not really a thing. Now overlay in Pans is a fucking nightmare but not cubes. If it’s truly overly a change of culture should do it.

So technically it wouldn’t be overlay because there’s no casing layer and the top layer of mycelium is not dead. But I don’t know what else to call it. It’s in a 69qt tub with the hole set up exactly like yours. My thought was not enough FAE only because I am seeing some aerial hyphae but it’s also a super aggressive mycelium. Or could there just not be enough “mist” on the surface? The strains are blue magnolia and tidalwave RG. The tidalwave is the one relatively even ontop and the blue magnolia is the one that’s getting almost blob looking mycelial growth.

What do you mean by overlay exactly? Sometimes mine get dry and scab over, and usually they have a hard time recovering after that.

Overlay is when the mycelium goes crazy and swells up all over the surface. Natalensis does it constantly.

People use "overlay" in a few different ways afaik, one being when the myc runs over the top of itself in a jar (sign of bacteria), another being when it scabs over from drying out, for example. But yeah, just trying to figure out what sp0rerun meant by overlay in particular.

Yeah I'd wager those look green or otherwise nasty within week, but :shrug: It is weird though, there's definately a lot of healthy looking myc in there despite it being all lumpy. Maybe you've just got some weird genetics, but I'd bet it's bacteria. Though I do agree a squirt wouldn't hurt

Hey pasty, just wondering what brand of coir you are using lately.

I just used an ecoearth brick for the first time and my tub got trich before first flush ....

Normally I use some premium loose coconut that is super clean and presterilized and no added trich but its quite expensive.

Maybe it was in the spawn ofc but still Ive seen some of your old posts dissing ecoearth.

Just weigh out 650g (or if you dont have a scale look and see if the weight of the coir block is on the package and just do the math to figure out approximately how much coir to break off the compressed block to equal 650g).

proceed to follow Damien5050's bucket tek as directed and you'll be groovy.

Lol they're so weird, right? This is one of my first PBR tubs and I'm really stoked on how it turned out.  I've been meaning to do a giveaway so I'll take some swabs soon, imma keep running these for a minute :cool:

I’ve been using a big cooler. I’m using 3/4 of a pack with 9 litres of verm and 15 litres of water. Then I measure out 13 Litres per mono and 2 for top layer. 4 litres spawn.

How much is your average yield with these?


Thinking about getting some going ASAP, debating if I should start 4 or just go balls deep and do 10 at once
