I would recommend not taping those holes anymore. You be a happy camper if you do. Just stuff them from day one. your tubs will colonize so fast you cant keep up with them anymoar
None taken but there's no need to cuss. I'll take your advise on the stuffing from day one. Seen plenty of tubs with leaks or loose fitting tape that in fact have always had pins by the time 10 days rolls around. That's no coincidence.
PS~ Bubba Kush in the neighborhood tonight/this moring.

The older I got, the less pleasant weed became. Now, it shoots my resting heart rate up to about 160 BPM, which then triggers a pretty bad panic attack.
Somewhat difficult to NOT be freaked out with a resting heart rate like that.
So, yeah, no more doobage for me.

Im on some Blue Dragon.
if I dont tape my holes shut during colonization I get the mean green cuz my old house is mold heaven. I just cant colonize with poly stuffed holes.

I had that problem the last place I lived bro. It was behind a farm in an old house built in the 1800's.
you can run a air purifier in the room, not a cheap one you gotta spend a few hundred or get one off craiges list, and stuff your holes very firmly.
When I lived in greenville.... I mean the house itself was covered in green mold this actually worked for me.
I've seen people talk all kinds of shit about air puifiers but they are wrong. Unless you try using a 30 dollar piece of shit from walmart they work.

See, that doesn't seem possible to me.
You'd presumably be spawning up your tubs in open air, right? Albeit probably with gloves, mask, air sanitation, I know.
...the bottom line is trich spores WILL be in there, no question. Keeping the CO2 high is just gonna make the matters worse.
Also, you said you don't wrap up the lid or anything - that's most assuredly gonna let in mold spores as well.
In addition, we both know I make up my bins and colonize without restricting air exchange, and I challenge you to a 'my-living-quarters-are-more-trichy-than-your-living-quarters-off.'
I've had mad trich outbrakes, for one, and I have a container of compost material sitting in my kitchen that I rarely empty out into the compost bin. My kitchen is all of 15 feet away from the area I make up my bins in, without a door in between.
I think from the information I just listed above Occam's razor suggests it's something else going on.
Have you actually made up a bin the way we are suggesting to?
Aside from all that, your solution is to antagonize the situation, which seems unlikely to help in my opinion.

Dude, I've POURED PLATES using those things:

Hundreds, actually. Never contamed once.
I have no idea why it works.
You can read about how I set it up and everything in my journal. Now that I have a flowhood, obviously, that's been retired, but how I used to use it should show the effectiveness of the purifier.

Yea, but a plate is a small space. He would need to use an ionic breeze or something. I run one in my grow room. When you walk in it smells like a hospital. Its a $400 one I got for $20 brand new of craiges list from a college kid moving back home

Yeah, I suppose he should use a larger one. I'm just sayin' - those $30.00 things are totally pieces-o- , but they do a good job.

Personally, wouldn't consider using a black plastic trash bag, cut to fit a fruiting mushroom substrate "wasting a bag". Also, you should use spawn bags or quart jars as your pasteurization container.
I bag my substrates and have noticed quite a decrease in side and bottom pinning over substrates that'r not bagged, on both clone and multi-spore culture. I also tape holes during colonization. For fruiting, 5 of six holes are stuffed heavily with poly-fil and one remains open coupled with a fan set on low to run during the photo-on period. Temps are kept between 70-73F during fruiting, 68-70F during colonization.
Trash bags work geat for pasteurizing in, then I just open them and pour in my spawn, mix well and pour out into a lined mono. Cheaper than pasteurizing in a spawn bag, and can hold more sub per bag. When finished the bags are still usable for refuse.
I was referring to wrapping the whole bin a waste.
@Facey, those are indeed THE's PE. Multispore 7.5 ounces first flush...Yum

I havent seen a contam till after the 3rd flush in over a year and half in the house. usually I dump them after the third though because of diminishing returns/risk benifit
When fruiting outside, I have gotten to 7 flushes.

I'm still at the "ain't broke, don't fix it" stage. I've never seen a problem with using bags, as long as spawn and substrate were clean. And while it may be somewhat faster... so what? I can wait a couple days. Greenhouse is full anyway, that's my bottleneck.
Now, I don't seal the bags, just fold them under. And like I said, it's just for MSG tubs, not dubtubs.
BTW, I don't really have anyplace I can colonize tubs in natural light and room air, it's all hypothetical for me. The cabinet is where it happens and I can't leave the doors open. Guess I could remove them some day.

The doors aren't airtight. And I suppose I could put LEDs inside.
But if I leave one open I'll crack my face on it. And besides there's no window there.
