Myco quart just means a jar about 3/4 full of grain.

A myco quart is a bit less than a an actual quart since you don't fill jars totally full of grain to leave room for shaking.

10 ounces from two quarts? MAYBE over the entire life span of the tub. You should expect to get one ounce dry per quart you put into a tub.

I really just came here to say I don't know why this style of tub isn't more popular. It's then only type I run. Even shoe boxes, except i don't drill the optional hole on those. Absolutely love these, thanks Pasty!!

Would a 2:8 ratio be too much (2 bricks coir, 8 quarts grain?)

How about 4:8 (4 bricks coir, 8 quarts grains)

Anybody do this? Would be using 66 quart tub

You can´t mix bricks and quarts within a ratio.
One brick makes ~9 quarts.

I thought it was 1 brick to 4 quarts of spawn? Or 1 brick to 2 quarts of spawn?? I can’t double it?

Edit: shit, nvm, I see what you’re saying now. Can I still use 4:8 as a ratio or is that too much?

Sorry, was a little confusing.
Usually we call it spawn to substrate ratio.
So if you have 4 qts of spawn to a brick (~8-9qts hydrated),
you´ll have a ratio about 1:2.
One part spawn to 2 parts substrate, measured in volume.
If you double or triple all values doesn´t matter, the ratio stays the same.

Personally i´d do 2 tubs from 8 jars spawn.
4 jars spawn and one brick of coir to each.

But keep in mind what Aka said, 8 jars will give just ~6 qts spawn in total.

Has anyone had a problem with their 66qt tubs drying out?

I've grown multiple tubs of Amazonian's and GTs using Pasty's EZ mono in the standard configuration without once having to open the tubs until I started harvesting. All of them had nice drops of condensation covering the entire surface, great pinsets and good flushes.
I've subsequently moved house (in the same city) and am running 66qt tubs of Amazonian, GT and Penis envy and all of them have a dry surface after full colonisation. I'm having to mist all of them 3 times a day...has this happened to anyone out there?

Thanks Munchauzen

So tape over all the lower holes? They should be ready to start pinning, won't that delay pinning?

I've had 27qt tubs dry out on me and solved that problem by taping (packing tape, not micropore, so no air was allowed in through those holes) over all the bottom holes apart from the middle hole on each side and that worked

It could also be that you prepped the coir drier than before.

But even something as small as moving a tub across the room can drastically change things, especially if there’s a fan or heater.

Good points aka, room position can make a big difference, especially in the winter when furnaces are running etc. Sometimes stuff does need to be adjusted.

The constant theme with fruiting strategy will always be dialing, as soon as any variable, or set of variables are  changed, dialing will be necessary.

Change of airflow from season (AC)to season (furnace)= dialing.

Change of tub size, hole configuration, substrate depth, change of room, change of just about any variable is going to require dialing.

This is the thing I find that gets people the most.

ok thanks everyone

guess i'm just going to have to play with a few things and see what makes a difference....for now i've micropored the side holes (apart from the middle one) on each tub

Do you use the same amount of holes for a smaller 20L mono tub? i.e. three holes on the sides?

For a smaller tub I’d use less holes. Perhaps only one hole per long side of a tub as small as 20L

I run this tek using 24l mini monos

the first time I ran the tubs I used 3 holes on each side as per Pasty's original configuration but with the holes 4 inches high, not 5 inches...
The surface of my sub dried out and I had to mist a lot...got a decent harvest though.

the second time I ran the tubs, i taped the two side holes on each side closed and left the two center holes open. when the sub was fully colonised I removed the tape from the holes and had a good flush. I didn't have to mist at all like I did the first time as closing the side holes prevented the sub from drying out...

I know I am a little late to the party here, but id like to give this a shot. I have a couple 20L tubs similar to the ones mentioned above, but they are gasketed lids. That being said, should I add additional holes to compensate? Or am I overthinking this? Thanks!!

Hi Pasty, I had a run of Bodz Unmodified tubs, keen to try this - i have followed your instructions and created tubs of my own just like yours. I am excited to post my results. I have 1 TUB going right now, should start fruiting, next 10-15 days. 5 other tubs to follow soon after.

GT Strain,
Clone to agar, to agar isolate to Master Grain to Spawn Jars.
CV - no gypsum on this one, the other 5 will have gypsum.
Spawn used, Oats, 5 quarts spawn per tub using 1x 650g coir brick, 2 quarts verm and 3.7L of water for perfect field capacity.

Keen to see how your setup works for me.

I shall post pictures of fruits/flushes.
