I think they call it a evolutionary survival mechanism in our psych that prevents us from just offing ourselves through the course of logic. How do you do that, replace logic with belief.

Every human being is pathological liar to some degree (ego) when it comes down to continuing on to reproduce. Because we all know, life finds a way like that one mushroom growing off the side of a tub.
Religion, atheism, evolution, ufos, simulation theory, to the latest sky castle; experiencing consciousness forever in a computer chip. We all have coping mechanisms to some degree to fill in the blanks we do not comprehend to give this experience meaning and to continue on to reproduce.

Remember we are emotional creatures first before resorting to logic.
This is how marketing, politics and religion is so effective and more so destructive.
It is when people push there own fears and desires on others and manipulate others with selfish intent is were I get aggravated or entertained.

We all build castles of hope on the shifting sands of time, no one is exempt, it is in our nature to have a belief system that gets us out of bed everyday in hopes of a good fuck that carries on your genetic code.

Yeah, I have too.  Again, it's about degree.  Indulging in fantasy is healthy.  Allowing fantasy to shape ones entire moral code is a whole other thing, though.

My way of looking at the views against LGBTQ+ as being like flat earthers

everyone used to think the earth was flat, then we advanced, and now people who argue the earth is flat are not worth taking seriously

everyone used to think gay and trans people were mentally ill, then much of the world advanced, and now people still argue it is about mental illness and are not worth taking seriously

but agree that that there is a degree as to how dangerous they are with regards to whether and how much they push such beliefs

A lot of that has to do with individual perceptions of what mental illness means.  One can, of course, appeal to authority but  a lot of opinions about mental health issues are based around things that can't be measured objectively.  It really depends on how an individual views deviation from the norm as well as the potential harm that could arise from an particular environment.  Obviously, these two factors are sides of the same coin, one being the macro scale result of an aggregate of individual opinions.  The question is whether a particular deviation from the norm is considered "normal and natural" or "deviant and harmful" and the answer to this question relies heavily on a person's individual experience to inform their opinion.  I think it is interesting that opinions about deviancy become a self-fulfilling prophecy with regard to harm.  What I mean is that if public opinion considers a particular deviation to be beyond the pale, the chances of harm being inflicted on those kinds of people rises, thereby reinforcing the opinion.  You see this same dynamic in drug enforcement.  From weed to heroin, much of the harm is a result of society inflicting punishment on users (social stigmas, imprisonment, etc.) or the inflated prices of addictive substances caused simply by their illegality.  Many of the drugs themselves are reasonably harmless once these factors are removed

It is one way of looking at the human struggle for both genetic survival and sanity but logic has underdelivered as a means of investigating the nature of phenomenal reality.

After Newton humanity had a hope of one day fully understanding the workings of the clockwork universe through investigating physical interactions between chunks of matter. In early 1900s chaos re-emerged and we have never recovered. I heard the guy currently occupying Richard Feynman's chair saying that as a physicist he is embarrassed that in the last 90 years they have made no progress in understanding the nature of reality. We still cannot explain the double slit experiment and have no clue what happens before observation.

From this angle our struggle is not so much between logic/reason on one side and belief/superstition on the other but rather describes humanity trying - and failing - to make sense of things using whatever methods we have at our disposal.

Same here, but it doesn't change the fact I still want to emotionally, "get it on". I just logically have a choice to change the result without the intended reproductive consequences. Sex feels good for a reason, like the term, thinking with the wrong head and the biological clock going off extra loud.
I think we call that bio hacking these days. :justdontknow:
I remember the 82 year old who wouldn't retire complaining, "I'm 82 years old and still wanna screw like a 20 year old, it never goes away". :lmafo:

I agree, I like Marcus Aurelius's well put take on the matter:

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
Marcus Aurelius

But anyways for topic sakes, kinda excited to see what unfolds at the rally even though I most likely wont be surprised. More division if anything but I am welcome to be surprised. Read there is a truck parked out front with the death toll displayed under his administration.

There are more layers of delusion on the belief/superstition side than on the logic side because the scientific method is more structured. This is well undetstood by most but I am not sure if people commonly realise that the poster child of scientific inquiry, quantum mechanics, hit the wall in 1910s. All the expensive toys and collaboration of the brightest minds we have made no difference. We do not understand the nature of the probability field of events before observation.

I would argue that, from a logical perspective, the idea that future events reside in our mindstream as mental tendencies, only to be experienced when the right activation conditions come together is not a bad guess. It does not explain the detailed mechanics of the process but is at least conceptually consistent with where the science is at.

I've heard Eric Weinsteins assessment on the same topic of science hitting the brick wall. Particularly the diminishing scientific standards in the modern age with funding influences.
In short terms, we are kinda screwed on our current trajectory unless a miracle/accident of science happens or a person of higher abstract thinking like Einstein comes along and is able to function in the currant academic system. Mabye even the quantum computer.

I have come to conclude that our leaders <--(generalizing) continued mad rush forward, knowing the consequences of our actions, is the result of knowing the end is near. Our ability to change that with our limited scientific knowledge is futile at this time.
In that case, the response has been; might as well party, consume it up while making things appear that they are going to be ok and is actually going forward.
Like the ship caption with a broken rudder saying to the crew, I got this, while we steam ahead toward the ice burg. No point causing a panic that wont change the inevitable.
This is where the lieing to ourselves comes in to play, ya just cannot lay down and die, gotta do something, it's our nature.

There are serious methodological problems with modern science - funding, political interference, inflated egos etc. But what I am pointing to is even more fundamental. As one physicist put it Bohr brainwashed a whole generation into believing the problem of wave particle duality has been solved - it has not.

It looks like we may have encountered a genuine limit to the rational understanding of the pre-observation reality. An imperfect analogy would be a rat scraping through the wood chips to the bottom of the cage. No amount of scraping will help and any further progress would hinge on self-realisation that he/she is a caged rat trying to work things out.

The current scientific consensus (the big bang) is every bit as ludicrous.

And now all the Elon Musk worshippers think we are living in a simulation. That means someone (or something) created said simulation. Believing there is a being intelligent enough to create a simulation is essentially the same as believing in God.

Elon musk is way smarter than you or I. Who are you to say we aren't living in a simulation. You couldnt possibly know. Also I think its just pure speculation and anyone who takes it too serious is probably crazy. Dont talk shit about elon tho he's the only billionaire who actually cares about our species becoming interplanetary.

am fine with people having opinions, simply recognize those opinions as being founded on outdated or erroneously represented information

in terms of what can be diagnosed and treated, being trans (or gay) do not qualify
transgenderism has an adjacency with gender dysphoria which is recognized as a mental health issue
but gender dysphoria is also significantly reduced and in a number of cases eliminated through transition treatments
at which point you have an individual who is still fully trans, and may be free of diagnosable mental health issues
tho, conversely, it is not impossible for trans people to end up with more common mental health issues like depression or anxiety that also apply to cis people
but at that point the mental health condition is not transgenderism/transexualism

if you want to start pushing for similarities between religious beliefs and other protected statuses tho
mental health issues is a better start
religious systems are a foreign input influencing behaviour that alters how an individual functions in the world
and can have such a level of integration to hit disorder status

Turns out even trump supporters aren’t so willing to risk getting covid by going to an indoor mass gathering. He only filled 2/3 of the stadium and everyone got in so they never opened the overflow area.

This is not a good sign for his re-election.

I never stated my opinion on the human condition, just saying main stream religion isn't the only crazy theory out there.

Elon is brilliant when it comes to certain subjects, that doesn't mean he should decide the fate of humanity. Have fun going to desert planets that don't support life, I'll hang back on this dope ass Earth we got.

Great speech tonight!

Trump was looking as vibrant and charismatic as ever!! I'm glad he spent 10 minutes telling the story about walking down the ramp. He's a smart guy and wasn't going to let the media paint him as weak or coming down with something.

4 more years coming right up!

MAGA TRUMP 2020

:rocketcrotch::rocketcrotch::rocketcrotch:

And we all really needed him to acknowledge that he was letting the liberal cities destroy themselves for a bit intentionally because many were accusing him of turning a blind eye or being too passive on the matter. But in reality, it was probably more effective to let the libs run their angry tantrum course to show America who the bad guys really are.

He's still got my vote!
