Self mutilation is rational?

In some instances it is, say the climber that sawed his hand off to escape death. Some homeboy did that with a pocket knife.

“I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

It doesnt sound rational at all. Neither do the sheets the women wear to cover up there hole body. Imagine wearing that shit in the desert with one eyehole to look out of and your genitals have been mutilated. But yeah tho, its their right to religion and all. It'd be racist to say that genital mutilation is wrong. Forsure.

Oh, u meant self mutilation. Nvm. Thats bad too.

Oh cause koods said it was wrong to not hire or fire people for being gay or transgender but then said that he wouldn't hire someone for believing in god, saying they were mentally compromised. In which i asked about gays and transsexuals due their mental health issues. In which you said that believing in god wasn't rational behavior, then i asked if someone getting a sex was rational behavior

Mental illness is illness. You wouldn't hire someone based on an illness that doesn't affect their work?

Believing in mystical sky wizards is just stupidity.

I didn't say that i wouldn't hire them, but i could argue that believing in a mystical god or goddess shouldn't effect one's work either

It doesn't usually effect their work if they can shut up about it. Many can't do that.

Let me get this straight. You think women who are attracted to other women are mentally compromised?

Now would be the moment for true charismatic figure to rise up. Not coming from within the US government, either.

Will this movement (its getting close to a cultural revolution) embrace non violence principles? Or do we live in a society that a few rioters or subset of individuals, makes a unified nonviolent movement impossible?

I come from a time when successful movements had charismatic leaders, but from Occupy to present, these folks seem to be into decentralization.

It should be interesting.

Trump's niece who is publishing the book about him is a clinical psychologist with a PhD. Maybe she just wants to make a couple million bucks. But there should be some insights into his psyche or psycho. I'm good with it either way.

From now until January when he leaves office is going to be so amusing. I get home from work at 6 am and read, on average, four anti-Trump articles a day. It puts me in a good mood.

There are now at least three organizations of prominent Republicans who are working to get Biden elected, and one is raising funds for him. One group was against Trump last time, but two are former supporters who are now disgusted with him. I think what they have in common is they don't want to see the Republican Party destroyed for a quarter century, and at this point they are perfectly willing to cede power for 4-8 years to prevent that.

There are Republicans in congress hoping to get reelected. There are very high ranking military officials, and the Pope and other religious leaders. Women don't like him, senior citizens are turning away. Blacks hate him. Biden still has some work to do with Hispanics. If young people don't want to vote because they are butthurt about Bernie, they won't be needed. Lets face it; they really didn't vote for Bernie either.  Sanders himself is hopeful about the next administration, unlike the people here.

Last weekend I got my best friend into a bet on the election. He's the only one I see regularly outside of work since this started. We were doing shrooms because we couldn't do what we usually do, because he was about to be called back to work and needed to be cautious. I asked him if he just wanted to pay me now. He said last time you wanted to bet a thousand. I said you should have taken that bet.

Being stupid likely will, however, and if someone is so stupid that they literally believe fairytales, that's almost certain to have an affect on his/her work.

Mac : The Lord provideth again!

Dennis Reynolds : No, Mac! No. The Lord not provideth. Frank provideth. He's the one who bought the cups. Fank provideth.

Mac : That well, the Lord provideth the snowstorm in may that allowed us to get the cups now.

Dennis Reynolds : Uh-huh.

Mac : See? It's all a part of his divine plan, Dennis. And that's locked in, so we're good.

Dennis Reynolds : Okay, so all we have to do is nothing?

Mac : No. No, because, uh, we have free will, Dennis, which means that, um, we have to take the necessary steps to make sure that that plan comes to fruition.

Dennis Reynolds : Which is predetermined.

Mac : Yes.

Dennis Reynolds : But it doesn't matter what we do if it's all predetermined. You see how your argument doesn't make any sense?

Mac : Uh, that's correct. But it doesn't have to make sense, because that's where the faith comes in. Right? I have faith that what i'm saying makes sense.

Dennis Reynolds : Okay, so even if it doesn't make sense, your faith makes it make sense.

Mac : Correct.

Dennis Reynolds : Got it! Okay, so there's no way to have a rational conversation with you.

Mac : No.

Pretty much the reason why I hire adults and not children from fairytale land.

There are socially religious people.  People who just go to church as a social exercise.  I have no problem with that.  I even have no problem with the people who play with the idea of some afterlife as a possibility among the unknowns.  It's the people who believe that evolution is a lie because god created the universe and that noah built a boat big enough to hold two of every species when he was 600 years old.

Once someone hits that point, there's no common reality within which we can operate a business.

I dunno, I've met plenty of otherwise competent people who believe in ghosts or astrology or extraterrestrials with the ability to travel cosmic scale distances significantly faster than light or any number of other outlandish and unlikely things.

What if man is mentally compromised and thinks that hes really a she? Or what if a woman is mentally compromised and is attracted to other women? Or do you think that you should only be able to discriminate against what you personally disagree with: like religion?

This does not happen
a man may be born in a womans body or vice versa
and homosexual attraction is natural and normal
the only people who consider such LGBTQ+ individuals as "mentally compromised" are individuals who are themselves mentally compromised

you don't have to like trans people, but you do have to accept that individuals a lot more informed than you agree in large scale that HRT and gender confirmation surgery are the best courses of treatment for gender dysphoria

you don't have to like gay people, but you do have to accept that individuals do not adhere to who the invisible sky man says they have to be attracted to are not deviating from anything

meanwhile, there is no support for the basis of religion's discrimination against other people
they are not the same thing at all, and only a dishonest or stupid person would portray them as such

the mental health of the individuals you argue against is not compromised

but since there are already protections that exist for people with mental health issues
you would be better off arguing that religion is a mental health issue and should be covered under that basis
rather than trying to argue against coverage for LGBTQ+ individuals as a way to argue "for" coverage for religious dementia

Yeah, I have too.  Again, it's about degree.  Indulging in fantasy is healthy.  Allowing fantasy to shape ones entire moral code is a whole other thing, though.

I read The Lord of the Rings a long, long time ago.  I liked it.  If, however, I start LARPing in court, that's going to be a problem.  Again, I'm fine with religious people who just do it to be social.  People who literally believe someone is going to burn in hell because of X, however, is a whole other thing.
