I dunno, I've met plenty of otherwise competent people who believe in ghosts or astrology or extraterrestrials with the ability to travel cosmic scale distances significantly faster than light or any number of other outlandish and unlikely things.

Yeah, I have too.  Again, it's about degree.  Indulging in fantasy is healthy.  Allowing fantasy to shape ones entire moral code is a whole other thing, though.

I opted out of the reproductive game decades ago.

Same here, but it doesn't change the fact I still want to emotionally, "get it on". I just logically have a choice to change the result without the intended reproductive consequences. Sex feels good for a reason, like the term, thinking with the wrong head and the biological clock going off extra loud.
I think we call that bio hacking these days.
I remember the 82 year old who wouldn't retire complaining, "I'm 82 years old and still wanna screw like a 20 year old, it never goes away".

It is one way of looking at the human struggle for both genetic survival and sanity but logic has underdelivered as a means of investigating the nature of phenomenal reality.

After Newton humanity had a hope of one day fully understanding the workings of the clockwork universe through investigating physical interactions between chunks of matter. In early 1900s chaos re-emerged and we have never recovered. I heard the guy currently occupying Richard Feynman's chair saying that as a physicist he is embarrassed that in the last 90 years they have made no progress in understanding the nature of reality. We still cannot explain the double slit experiment and have no clue what happens before observation.

From this angle our struggle is not so much between logic/reason on one side and belief/superstition on the other but rather describes humanity trying - and failing - to make sense of things using whatever methods we have at our disposal.

I agree, I like Marcus Aurelius's well put take on the matter:

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
Marcus Aurelius

But anyways for topic sakes, kinda excited to see what unfolds at the rally even though I most likely wont be surprised. More division if anything but I am welcome to be surprised. Read there is a truck parked out front with the death toll displayed under his administration.

It's the people who believe that evolution is a lie because god created the universe and that noah built a boat big enough to hold two of every species when he was 600 years old.

A lot of that has to do with individual perceptions of what mental illness means.  One can, of course, appeal to authority but  a lot of opinions...

Elon musk is way smarter than you or I. Who are you to say we aren't living in a simulation. You couldnt possibly know. Also I think its just pure speculation and anyone who takes it too serious is probably crazy. Dont talk shit about elon tho he's the only billionaire who actually cares about our species becoming interplanetary.
