Not sure if everyone here is aware that the dictionary definition of racism is going to change soon:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/10/us/merriam-webster-racism-definition.html

It is funny (in a sad way) that "racism" became a convenient term to slander whoever the left does not agree with and, rather than calling out the abuse of English language, we decided to change the definition.

Metoo said:
Except the people making a call on what is the agreeed meaning appear to have an ideological agenda. To me racism still means judging people based on their skin colour and I have not agreed to broadening this definition.

Are you being intentionally naïve for dramatic effect?  "The people making a call on what is the agreed meaning appear to have an ideological agenda". They don't appear to have an ideological agenda. They beyond any doubt have an ideological agenda. The people who decide what knowledge is are the intellectual elite. The ones who specialize in social knowledge are usually employed in the humanities and social sciences. The great majority of them lean left; frequently they lean a lot to the left.

Right wingers are better at money and power. They just aren't very good at knowledge. They only occasionally want to work in the fields that generate social knowledge.

There are exceptions. Economists are social scientists, but many are conservative. Totalitarian communists are sometimes good at power. Some billionaires are very liberal.

But the generalizations are accurate.

The Supreme Court blocked Trump's move to dump the Dreamers Act. Maybe we on the left were too quick to condemn this stacked court. If he doesn't get to pick another, it might end up being balanced.

Now on to the fun stuff. Of all the people Trump wants to throw in jail, John Bolton has moved up to head of the class. Here are some highlights from his book and interview with ABC News:

"obstruction of justice as a way of life"

"stunningly uninformed"

courting China to aid his reelection chances with agriculture deals

easily swayed and manipulated by authoritarian leaders

often the subject of scorn among his advisors

"not fit for office"

lacks the "competence to carry out his job"

"I think Putin can play him like a fiddle"

"There really isn't any guiding principle that I can discern other than what's good for Donald Trump's reelection"

The DOJ is trying to block publication of the book, which is irrelevant because numerous advance copies were given to media outlets.

Wrong assertion. A free market setup starts with a range of ideas and approaches which then get thinned out by the famous invisible hand and efficient systems are more likely to survive. Free market economy does not guarantee that some players will not come up with suboptimal concepts, only that they are likely to fail over time.

Looking at the current situation what I see is a tremendous racial diversity in the workforce. For example, Indians and Asians are overrepresented in the IT sector, music and entertainment is Black friendly etc. But it gets even better - predominantly white countries like the US build entire factories to employ workers in prediominantly non-white countries like Mexico, China, Thailand. If anything we have racial bias against the predominantly white population of the US here.

I think you are being naive if you do not see that the reason conservatives are underrepresented in the social sciences and humanitites is that they are being actively pushed out and purged, not that they do not want to work there. Sorry but your generaliasations are shit.

No. One does not choose the religion one is born into and it can be dangerous to leave it. Here is the graph showing the percentage of Muslims believing that the penalty for leaving Islam should be death:

Exclusive Bretheren families will disown you if you apostate and other nutters may even employ harrassment and physical threats. If your qualifying test for racism is whether one "chose" being who one is nationality can often be changed easier than religion.

To avoid this mental acrobatics I use the term racism in reference to, well - race.

it has been known for ages that right wingers ridicule the lack of economic utility of a broad number of degrees,
before the humanities generally it was gender studies, before gender studies it was psychology
but that inability to defocus from the chase of money and power means that areas of study with increasing social influence have been totally ignored by them
so they will cry out that they have been excluded, when the lack of engagement has been their own

it is different from women and STEM fields where the culture has only recently opened to emphasize being welcome
with general lack of acceptance or even ridicule of women's capacity in these areas that persisted for decades before that
and even then the culture within many areas of study are sexist primarily due to echo chambers existing for so long with lack of female voices

I do. In fact any diversion from Evangelical Christianity will cause grief - I have heard similar stories from converts to Buddhism.

But, since you mentioned it - does discrimination against LGBTQ+ constitute racism? After all one did not choose to be born this way and cannot change it?

One is not born into a religion.  One may be forced to participate in certain activities, but eventually, a person becomes an adult and chooses his/her belief system.  That choice, along with the ignorance and stupidity that led to it, are fair game upon which to judge someone.

Actually, I Brian makes a very good point.  We already let the free market try, and it failed.  All this diversity you speak of came AFTER Government involvement.

Agreed, because it is not an inborn trait religion can be adopted or withdrawn from like a job
no one is born part of a religion, tho parents will frequently pull children in to them before they can decide

Think this is the wrong line of questioning miscomprehending the parameters Enlil laid out

being LGBTQ+ is not a race; it is not a cohesive group and is never a large enough group in any one area to confer a total sense of identity -- however, it is an inborn trait that may be masked due to social pressures or dangers where people must pretend to be straight or cis until they get to safety
and interracialism characterizes a lot of relationships within the community

an ethnicity is something people are typically born into, but can willfully change with time and effort
but still fits under the umbrella of racism and racial identity

Don't worry about Enlil parameters - I asked you a simple question and there is no need for a tortured answer.

If I understand what you said both ethnicity (I actually talked about nationality) and sexual orientation are not race, both are inborn traits which can be masked/changed but ethnicity fits under the umbrella of racism whereas sexual orientation does not. The bit I am puzzled by is why you believe it is so, other than your personal convictions
