How about another signature bet - same premise, same NYT needle. You pick the state/states you think are wrong. But this time, if you lose, your sig has to say “The New York Times is the pinnacle of modern journalism.”

Pick a state, any state.

*Puke*

You don't really think so highly of the NYT, do you? If so, I'd be happy to disabuse you of that notion.

At this time, after a disappointing Super Tuesday, I think that it is pertinent to point out, and make sure that everyone understands exactly what Super Tuesday is all about. To the best of my knowledge, Super Tuesday was created, in order to give the conservative south more power in the Democratic primary.

Most states that vote on Super Tuesday are Southern/more conservative states, though that has changed a bit this election, with the addition of California, and I believe Maine, and Massachusetts. If a grass roots candidate comes up in the Democratic party, Super Tuesday is meant to kill their momentum.

I think that Bernie will do quite well going forward. I still have high hopes. Biden is just a terrible candidate, as is Bloomberg. Honestly, if Bernie can't beat these two, I suppose he doesn't deserve to win. Biden clearly has dementia, and he won in conservative states, particularly states with a lot of black voters. There were a couple of upsets, which were very surprising, so I may be incorrect in my assumptions, but I think Bernie is going to continue to do quite well, going forward.

Warren will not drop out of the race, I'm assuming she made some sort of back-room deal for a cabinet or vp position or something. Her campaign is dead in the water, more-so than Pete's ever was. She has no path to victory, and is therefore remaining in the race for other reasons.

Just wondering if there will be any counting issues in all of the states that Bernie was projected to win, and not in any of the other states (Particularly California). Stay tuned, lets find out

While we're waiting, there appears to have been voter suppression in poor minority areas of Texas:

Long voting lines in Texas renew accusations of voter suppression
Quote:
Many of those long lines were in black or Latinx majority districts

The last voter at Texas Southern University (TSU), a historically black public college in Houston, left the booth after 2 a.m. on March 4, seven hours after he got in line on Super Tuesday.

Many other black and Latinx Texans shared the same experience

While some waited, others did not.

While voters in rich white cities of Texas reported smooth sailing, voters in predominantly minority neighborhoods reported waiting up to 7 hours to vote.

I think I'm done with the Democratic party. I'll vote for Bernie if he's nominated, and I might vote for a really progressive congressperson, but I'm fully willing to go 3rd party otherwise.

I just don't agree with the things that Democrats stand for. I don't see how anyone can.

The real problem here is that the U.S. has let capitalism go unchecked for far too long. We need a president like Sanders unleash progressive thinking about how money is distributed as well as limitations on corporations from exploiting the citizens of this country. It is absurd and disgusting to think that corporations have the lobbying power that they do currently. One example, people often rebut about how impossible free healthcare would be in the U.S. but thats only because they charge so god damn much. Same goes for a college education, I often hear "well if you can't afford college, don't go" Hardly anyone can afford university. Why does our society insist on taxing it's youth into oblivion, I will never understand it. America needs to begin investing in it's future generations in order to compete with the rest of the world. Regardless, I hope for a better future.

I'm beginning to wonder if the "Left wing" party, here in America, has more billionaire support than Republicans do. Biden has over 60 Billionaire donors. We have two Billionaires running as Democrats. If anyone is in denial that we are living in an oligarchy, they truly must not understand the word. If anyone is in denial that we are currently engaged in class warfare, they have been deluded by a particularly potent American koolaid.

We have no left, here in America. There is no 'left wing media', and there is no left wing party. If we had any sort of left wing media, Bernie would have some modicum of support from them. His only media support is on youtube.

Does anyone still believe that America has a left wing media?

The difference - is that the left wing billionaires are more invested in health care, insurance, and law.
Right wing billionaires are more invested in oil, arms, & prisons

Things go back and forth - especially investment in arms - but to a good degree these are the industries that define the policies of each respectively.

Healthcare, insurance, and law? What do you mean by law... And doesn't Insurance fall under healthcare?

Billionaires, whatever their political agenda, are harmful to the American people. Healthcare billionaires prevent millions of people from affordable care, drive up prescription drug prices beyond all reasonability, and bankrupt the middle class. Fossil fuel billionaires ruin the environment.

Does anyone, aside from billionaires, benefit from billionaires?

I know an Uber driver who picked up a billionaire once. He didn't even tip well, and bitched about how everyone is always after his money.

Yup.

I guess people want to keep their trillions in student debt and maintain their shitty health care.

I said it a while ago, the US middle class is completely doomed and last night put the final nail in that coffin.

I agree that Trump's a shoe-in for the second term but this has been coming for a while. There is a reluctance on this forum to give him credit for what he does better than most people alive - his outrageously effective persuasion game. His rallies, Twitter messaging, trolling of the Left to please the middle are all tools of persuasion which have cemented his base and can lure an occasional independent. For sure, Trump will benefit from the Sanders vs DNC spat and this may sound opportunistic but the pressure on the Dems came from his relentlessly consistent messaging. Had he not been so formidable it would not have mattered who the Dems conspired to put up against him.

At the risk of losing even more fans here I will say the World is fortunate that by fluke this time round a guy with a tremendous persuasion game came in a personal package which appears genuinely focused to benefit the US. Despite the banging on of his opponents Trump has taken no steps to dismantle any of the checks and balances, broke no laws (so far as we can tell), and has not stepped outside his constitutionally mandated powers. Think about it - an aspiring authoritarian would have taken less than 3.5 years to start using the state to go after his opponents, defying court orders, consolidating his control of the army etc. Historically we have not been so lucky - the likes of Hitler, Trotsky and Fidel were all tremendous persuaders but their untimate motives were dodgy.

Uh.  Trotsky?  He never ran anything. You mean Lenin?

If Bernie just promised universal healthcare he probably would have won. The problem is that he promised free everything and that makes people very uncomfortable. The older generations don't like hearing that shit. He made those mistakes failing to realize that most young people don't even go out and vote. I don't understand why he didn't just focus on health care? It would have been difficult enough just to accomplish that in 4-8 years. Donald Trump is 100% going to win now. The left literally handed the election over to trump. Last election you wanted Hillary and now you want Joe Biden! Are you people insane? Hillary and Biden are even more corrupt than trump! I can understand Bernie Sanders but not Joe Biden! This is why people are turning against the democratic party. We're so fucked!

Unfortunately I think you're right. Bernie appears to me to be the best option among those available, but anyone who thinks this country is really ready for those types of policies must be living on Mars. The vast majority of the U.S. electorate doesn't support them. Much of Europe got a lot of this together in the last fifty years, but this is not Europe. And regarding Medicare for all, I just think it's absolutely unrealistic.

As a diabetic who has had a ton of contact with our healthcare, pharmaceutical and insurance systems, I know it would take at least ten years to convert everything over to Medicare and possibly longer than that. Bernie would have four or maybe eight years in office, and whenever someone from the rival party became president, all of it would be undone, or paralyzed. We have no political stability in this country at all, and Medicare for all would need perfect stability.

It seems pretty clear it's going to be Biden, especially now with his unlimited financial resources. But then, it has seemed it would most likely be Biden for over a year now. I hate to break it to all the Bernie acolytes, but even if he were elected, which appears very unlikely, it would be a disaster trying to implement those policies. The only way around that disaster would be a public who unilaterally supports Bernie, and we are far from having that.
