Exactly.  There would be no estate tax.

Haha good luck trying to convince anyone to your point - I have tried and failed. The forum rats here seem to agree that tax-paid income is still "house money" and fair game for the taxman

The reason that nobody agrees is that the view point is retarded.

If my father gives me $20k to help with a downpayment for a house, I pay tax on it. Why should inheritance be any different? My father isn't saving his cash so I don't inherit it, and income is income.

The government already took their share! The rest is money I earned! How the fuck is that not stealing!? It's 100% stealing! I don't care if you're jealous of my spoiled children! It's not yours! Aus abolished death taxes in the 70's, which everyone liked, mainly because everyone got hit with it... imagine how pissed people were at trying to carve up the proceeds of a house or taking a % of a $5000 estate etc.

A tax on the super wealthy however, that's different altogether.

Also, if you die and haven't completed your tax return the Aus Taxation Office still require you to do so... via an executor of the will.

This race is effectively between rich old ppl and poor young people and winning over the 50% that have no clue who theyre voting for

I have no interest in ideological debates

Most rich kids are waiting for their parents to die... Theyre also ruining the country

I'm just saying that personally... and my parents ensured me I wont get an inheritance... but even if I was, and they were rich and moved to a slightly higher tax bracket, which lowered their total income... And I got free healthcare... I would prefer that to a slightly larger inheritance.

This whole debate is about where rich ppls money goes

No. Your income was taxed when you earned it. Your child’s income (in this case, an inheritance) will be taxed when he receives it.

Remember, only $11+ million and it’s only a fraction of the inheritance. Your kids are still multi-millionaires at first.

BUT

If your kids end up blowing through their millions and lending on rock bottom, they’ll have free healthcare and a livable wage.

If Bernie just promised universal healthcare he probably would have won. The problem is that he promised free everything and that makes people very uncomfortable. The older generations don't like hearing that shit. He made those mistakes failing to realize that most young people don't even go out and vote. I don't understand why he didn't just focus on health care? It would have been difficult enough just to accomplish that in 4-8 years. Donald Trump is 100% going to win now. The left literally handed the election over to trump. Last election you wanted Hillary and now you want Joe Biden! Are you people insane? Hillary and Biden are even more corrupt than trump! I can understand Bernie Sanders but not Joe Biden! This is why people are turning against the democratic party. We're so fucked!

Unfortunately I think you're right. Bernie appears to me to be the best option among those available, but anyone who thinks this country is really ready for those types of policies must be living on Mars. The vast majority of the U.S. electorate doesn't support them. Much of Europe got a lot of this together in the last fifty years, but this is not Europe. And regarding Medicare for all, I just think it's absolutely unrealistic.

As a diabetic who has had a ton of contact with our healthcare, pharmaceutical and insurance systems, I know it would take at least ten years to convert everything over to Medicare and possibly longer than that. Bernie would have four or maybe eight years in office, and whenever someone from the rival party became president, all of it would be undone, or paralyzed. We have no political stability in this country at all, and Medicare for all would need perfect stability.

It seems pretty clear it's going to be Biden, especially now with his unlimited financial resources. But then, it has seemed it would most likely be Biden for over a year now. I hate to break it to all the Bernie acolytes, but even if he were elected, which appears very unlikely, it would be a disaster trying to implement those policies. The only way around that disaster would be a public who unilaterally supports Bernie, and we are far from having that.

At this point, I would be equally satisfied to see Trump win re-election, as I would be to see Bernie win. The economy has got to take a turn, in the next 4 years. After 8 years, every president suffers from an approval problem. I was the economy to tank, while the almighty business god is in office. Then, I can see a dramatic shift in the attitudes of the people.

If Bernie wins, the economy will go bust while he is in office. That's not good for our cause. People blame the economy on the president. I can't tell you how many Trump voters I have heard, saying that local factories would be hiring if Trump was elected, and guess what, those factories all opened up loads of positions. That has all changed now, with most people being laid off, but when he was first elected, many businesses were signing business contracts left and right.

I won't pretend to know how it all works, but I do believe that a lot of businesses do more business after presidential elections, when they can see how things will likely go, for trade and taxation.

What are you talking about?  I'd rather have Medicare for All and save the inheritance.  Inheritance isn't taxed unless it's over $11 million, in which case of course it should be taxed.

"If I invented something"

Most wealthy people never invented a god dam thing today. They're corporate executives that payed themselves with stock options and used very low capital gains taxes to make tens of millions of dollars off of the backs of their underpaid employees.

I'm sorry, your version of wealth creation is the extreme exception to the rule today. It's all about the gaming the system with financial assets. That's not inventing shit.

You folks fail to realize who makes the money. Who prints the money. Who protects the money. It is the collective society.

When billion dollar fortunes are amassed, it is done so only because we live in a society that functions in such as way, with it's infrastructure, judicial system, executive system, education system, etc, that billion dollar fortunes can be created.

Those who receive the most benefit from a system, should have to pay the most dues. This is simple. Do you know how much the government subsidizes the oil that you put in your gas tank? Do you know how much the government subsidizes Amazon?

The problem that you're having, is that you're still under the illusion that fortunes can be made created by a man.

So you think money should only be taxed once when it gets printed/created?  Because after that it's already been taxed?  We'd cease to function with that little tax revenue.

11 million dollars isn't a fortune though. There's a big difference between a guy that has 11 million and the guy running Amazon. The amazon guy has over 100 billion! It's not the same thing because the Amazon guy avoids paying taxes from the very beginning.

I think the government needs to stay the fuck out of are lives. For a example I think is wrong if a female gets 50% of everything during a divorce. My friends wife cheated on him and divorced him and got rewarded half of everything! She even took half of his retirement! She never worked a day in her life. It's all because the government wanted their peace of the pie. Your savings should belong to you alone.

$11m is NOT a fortune?

It is on this planet. Where are you from?

If you have a Bachelors degree, you will earn approximately $1.8 million in your lifetime.
https://www.moneyaftergraduation.com/how-much-you-will-earn-and-spend-in-your-lifetime/

P.S. I honestly thought it was closer to 10m when I googled it. Wow. 2 million. Jazz Bezos makes that in less than 15 minutes:crankey: yet, it’s taxing them that’s unfair

Bernie will fix this problem!!!  The guy who inherits $11 million pays nothing, and 'the Amazon guy' finally pays his fair share!
