An interesting angle is that the black voters who appeared to have made the difference on Tuesday are very patriotic and for-greater-good type people. Think about it - given the socio-economic stats they predominantly voted AGAINST the candidate who promoted policies directly benefitting them (extensive transfer of wealth from the rich of the not so). In their wisdom they decided that either if it sounds like a con it is one or that there are basic values which cannot be sacrified for a personal gain.

It had nothing to do with "basic values which cannot be sacrified", once again most simply didn't know any better.

They voted for Biden because he was affiliated with Obama and that's good enough for them. There is no analysis of the issues, there's no value system at work here. It's based on pure emotion and nothing more in the majority of the cases.

Most of them don't have a clue that Biden is suffering from serious dementia at this point and has zero chance against Trump.

Hmm, Bernie wasn't an option for them?  No, the DNC didn't fuck Bernie in this case, the voters did.

If voters can't filter out the propaganda from the MSM on Bernie, then they get what they deserve- Biden or Trump.

Metoo said:Despite the banging on of his opponents Trump has taken no steps to dismantle any of the checks and balances, broke no laws (so far as we can tell), and has not stepped outside his constitutionally mandated powers. Think about it - an aspiring authoritarian would have taken less than 3.5 years to start using the state to go after his opponents, defying court orders, consolidating his control of the army etc. Historically we have not been so lucky - the likes of Hitler, Trotsky and Fidel were all tremendous persuaders but their untimate motives were dodgy.

I mostly agreed with your post until the part I quoted above.
You must not be paying attention to a lot of things going on because anyone that did would clearly see Trump is dismantling our system of checks and balances:

1. He orders people to not obey Congressionally-approved subpoenas.
2. He interjects his opinion in legal matters (Roger Stone case).
3. The media.  "While not stipulated in the Constitution, the media’s free-ranging role in questioning and challenging elected officials is a clear and historically validated check on power. Few things frustrate Trump as viscerally and frequently as reporting that positions Trump’s policies or actions in a negative light."  Link
4. He publicly admits he doesn't believe our own nation's intelligence agencies.
5. He doesn't turn over documents requested by Congress.
6. On numerous occasions he has mentioned wanting to serve more than the two maximum terms a president is allowed to serve.

He publicly ridicules anyone who doesn't support him.
This is the early mindset of an authoritarian.

Also, your logic of "an aspiring authoritarian would have taken less than 3.5 years to start using the state to go after his opponents, defying court orders, consolidating his control of the army etc" is very wrong.  LOL do you think there is a magic number that every authoritarian has to reach in time in order to be an authoritarian?  Is it 1 year?  15 months?  Four months, three days, two hours, and five seconds?  The reason Trump is, in your eyes, "slowly" dismantling the system of checks and balances is because of two reasons:

1.  He needs to gain a strong platform of trust among his supporters and government officials so that he can get away with doing things that an authoritarian does.  If he did those things on day 1 then he probably wouldn't have made it as far as he has now.
2.  He needs to learn the actual job of being President of the United States of America because he hasn't done it before, nor has he really been in politics.  There is a lot to learn first before you can have a good idea for how to advance your dream of authoritarianism.

I tried to be careful with my terminology. In my view none of what you mentioned constitutes dismantling of the checks and balances, the way true authoritarians dealt to them.
1. Congress is still free to issue subpoena and, if they stand in court, I am sure Trump will comply
2. His comments on matters legal are completely above board and judges still pass sentences they see fit

a.s.o. down your list.

From what I see Trump has been is the "early mindset of an authoritarian" since the beginning of his presidency so the condition seems to have metastised. The thing to look out for is a trend - in 3.5 years I would expect to have seen progression to an overt power grab which has not been in evidence.

EDIT: I saw authoritarianism in action first hand during my childhood. Losing your job or getting kicked out of uni for criticising socialism. Getting in trouble for talking about historic events inconvenient for the rulers. The ruling political party having full control over judiciary. Soldiers and tanks in the streets.

You don't understand what a system of checks and balances means with regards to the USA.
Trump was impeached on two articles: abuse of power and contempt of congress.

I think I do. The checks and balances is the ability of the House to impeach and they used it - tick. The flip side is the ability of the Senate to acquit - another tick. The checks and balances process has run its course.

Lmao this NBC article title:

"Welcome to the Biden juggernaut, Mike Bloomberg! It's time to go beat Trump."

Wow such impartial news, much objectivity!

If there's ever a good riot going on in NYC in the near future, I will find a way to land a molotov in their HQ :highdog:

Of course not. There’s no solid proof.

Let me reread a quote from the article above:  "We don’t have time to correct every error"

Okay, here it is with a bit of context
Quote:
“We don’t have time to correct every error,” said committee member Bill Brauch, who offered the amendment, citing the party’s county conventions in three weeks. “But to me, over-allocating delegates is such a critical error, and raises such a question of unfairness, that we need to take action to correct it.”

And that’s just one representative’s opinion. The committee confirmed the results.

How about more context:  "The amendment was defeated by a committee vote, 26-15."

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Probably a wrong sub but what do you think about Biden's incoherence on stage? I mean those who thought Trump was losing it must have noticed Biden is not fully in charge?

Biden is definitely losing it.  He's been on that train for a long time, too.  I think he's probably not as far gone as Trump, but he's been declining longer.  Trump just seems to have passed him somewhat.  A debate might actually be pretty entertaining...sorta like watching the two curmudgeons in the loge box in the muppet show.

I don't think Trump is losing his memory in the same capacity. I think the way he speaks is willfully flimsy and roundabout. He avoids making points in his speech and just says things in a way that fills time and conveys some stretch at emotion.

Biden has seemed far gone for a while. Can't really comment on his current state, I haven't actually watched a clip or video with him in it probably since he was vice president.

I think Biden is in much worse mental shape than Trump. It's not even a fair comparison at this point.
